Nearly seven decades after the 'bomb' was dropped on both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the specter of nuclear war remains, but the publics eye on the conversation has moved quite dramatically. In recent years, the talk of the dangers of nuclear war have come more boldly into the public discourse, but with the threat of the Cold War, perceivably over, the conversation rather than occurring in the proverbial town square occurs quietly in academic circles. As the West is embroiled in a quiet, lukewarm war do these weapons serve a purpose, and what is that?
There is no doubt that the largest question on many American minds is the coming Fall. Specifically whether or not schools across the country should open at large. So many questions are coming from that simple question, because simply we have not faced a situation comparable to this in generations. Coupled with an extraordinary politized environment, where basic facts are disputed, the whole situation begs the question - are barreling toward disaster?
The Peoples Republic of China has rebounded from the crisis that has swept the world with a speed and breadth unmatched. While the world descends into a financial calamity not seen since the depression and comparable in scale in recent memory to the crash of 2008, the Peoples Republic of China for a 2nd time has managed to avoid financial disaster. With the number of unanswered questions surrounding the orgins of this calamity, it begs the question - what does China have to gain from a wholly lopsided recovery.
This past week the United States was hit with a relatively average storm. However the damage it has caused is widespread. When the storm struck the tri-state area - there were major outages across Connecticut, New Jersey and the five boroughs. The sheer strain caused on our infrastructure is incomprehensible. One can only wonder that in the event of a major event - what will happen to our critical infrastructure; from power, to water resources, and roads.
Much of the Cold War was built upon deterence and proxy conflicts between the United States and its allies against those aligned with the Soviets. There were great periods of cooperation and terrible periods of conflict. The cornerstone of much of the cooperation was the litany of arms control agreements meant to limit the number of deployed strategic weapons and nuclear arms. Many of these agreements have been outright pulled out of or are near to expiring without a renewel. As the world moves closer to conflict between nations which have not seen great war and strife for nearly 75 years, many of the safeguards put in place in its aftermath are slowly eroding.
I have said many times throughout the history of this podcast that our strongest and most important ally, are the nations of Europe. We share a collective history, and a shared interest in the flourishing of democracy and the liberalization of nations. This century has been marked by conflict and a shift back towards Great Power Politics. The Western institutions built after the 2nd World War are under attack. We can only preserve and reform the West & its institutions with the aid of a willing, strong and united Europe. They would not be a threat to us. They would be an indispensable ally.
Our nations monuments are under assault - both physical and figuratively. This speaks to a broader backlash towards our nation history, and some of the ills of our founding, that in many ways and to many people, has yet to be rectified. We cannot erase our history, nor can we tear it down and thrust it into the depths. We must wrestle and reconcile with its meaning. Jefferson, and Washington are one thing - though the monuments to the treasonous Confederacy are entirely different matter. Our history is complicated, but the ways in which many voices are arguing we should deal with it are even more so.
There is a war going on in Congress right now. Some may say too little, too late. The war is the push and pull between Senate Republicans & House Democrats on the issue of continued aid to the American people, and the states with the ongoing crisis that is COVID-19. The American public is reeling from the ramifications of the crisis and all that has come from it - mass unemployment, a grinding halt to economic productivity, and the revealing of structural issues that were here long before the crisis, which the crisis has only shone a light on. Today, we are going to discuss the HEALS Act, the Senate Republicans response to the growing need to answer the moment that is now.

It is no understatement to say that Vice President Bidens plans for if he makes it to the Presidency are ambitious. The prospect of keeping the house and possibly taking the senate leaves the door open to a chance to reform and revitalize the middle class and american workers. Looming behind this ambition? Who Vice President Biden will choose to be his Vice President. At 78 years old, this candidate will be one of the most consequential choices for Vice President in history.
"The Working Families Party is a progressive grassroots political party building a multiracial movement of working people to transform...
"The Center for Popular Democracy works to create equity, opportunity and a dynamic democracy in partnership with high-impact base-building organizations, organizing alliances, and progressive unions. CPD strengthens our collective capacity to envision and win an innovative pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda."
It is imperative during these times of economic tumult that both the American family and the American worker be protected and that their security be secured and guaranteed by the government. We must provide security and build up the foundation of the American worker and ensure the prosperity of the American family. This country cannot afford to forget the American family.
This past weekend federal officers in unmarked vehicles bearing no identifying markers, besides "POLICE", descended upon Portland, Oregon to quell mass unrest, and detain protestors. The only question is - what is the truth? A tacit reading of both The New York Times and The Wall St. Journal point to two very different interpretations of the 'facts". While the former purports a beginning of a secret police, detaining without warrant, the latter describes federal officers responding in tandem to violence, detaining protestors and reading their Miranda rights. So what is going on and what does it have to do with the Presidents recent executive orders?
The times that we are living in are concerning to say the least. We are living in a time of turmoil, tumult, and indeed, a 2nd Gilded Age. We need to start asking the question of when is it, that the concentration of wealth into the hands of a few amounts to a major national security concern?
Under the current President there is no doubt that judiciary has been changed for generations. With more appointments to the bench than any other sitting president in history, the President has left his mark on an institution meant to interpret the law. From the Federalist Society to Michael Flynn and the Justice Department and the question of the Supreme Court and the President's Tax Returns; the Trumpian mark is clear.
The current crisis that has the United States and many nations around the world in a state of standstill has crippled the economic productivity of many communities. More importantly, the workers of the country are hurting in what may be one of the worst economic downturns in history. During this all, an old political rivalry between the President and the... Post Office?
Joe Biden is the presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party Nomination for President. There is much more at stake than one man in the Oval Office. It is not about the man, but about the office itself and what that means for numerous executive agencies and a Presidency stronger than at any other point in history. Put it simply - you have to vote for Joe Biden.
China, or more aptly put, the Communist Party of China is a growing threat to the established order that the United States helped to cement post WWII. The current coronavirus crises only helps to deepen this fact and a growing number of nations are lifting the wool from their eyes when it comes to this growing and ever present threat to stability, order and democracy.
It has been quite some time! I give a few brief updates on my personal life as of late and speak on the need for the Demoxratix Party to change its messaging to appeal to a broader mass of Americans, and more importantly to refine their message from that of muddled and confused to clear, consise and direct.
