It may not seem like it, but there’s very little difference between going to the gym and learning a foreign language. I’ve seen tons of videos and courses that promise to teach you how to speak English just like a native speaker. They usually focus on slang, idioms, and pronunciation patterns that only natives use. The idea is, if you just say the same things that natives say, you’ll sound like one too — but here’s the problem: most learners are copying the results, not the process.Trying to sound like a native is pointless if you’re still learning like a non-native. Most people study English the way they’d study math or science — by memorizing rules, formulas, and vocabulary lists. But native speakers don’t study their language… they live it. They’re immersed in it from birth, constantly soaking up and imitating what they see and hear. And long before they ever study grammar formally, they can already speak fluently. So in this episode, I’m gonna give you 10 actionable tips to start living your life in English — and learning the language the way native speakers do.If you want to listen to this show without interruptions from advertisers, get a transcript of every episode, and advanced vocabulary guides to learn more effectively, subscribe to my patreon 👉 https://patreon.com/realenglishradioTimestamps:0:00 Finding your original voice0:32 Intro3:47 Tip #110:24 Tip #215:35 Tip #318:18 Tip #421:14 Tip #525:25 Tip #628:32 Tip #734:58 Tip #840:23 Tip #941:52 Tip #1044:33 Finding your original voiceLink to the video used in this episode 👉 https://www.tiktok.com/@michaelemacks/video/7438016324074245422?_r=1&_t=ZT-8vxAKwRcNAZ Hosted on Acast. Once you’ve experienced the novelty and thrill of traveling to a foreign country, it’s easy to think that your life back home could never be truly fulfilling or meaningful due to its monotany and predictability. You may end up believing that the people who never travel or experience new things are suckers… just empty souls sitting around, waiting to die… but is that really the case?If you want to listen to this show without interruptions from advertisers, subscribe to my patreon 👉 https://patreon.com/realenglishradioLink to the video used in this episode 👉 https://www.tiktok.com/@dax_oliver_writer/video/7627246776562519327?_r=1&_t=ZT-99i2O7LKoxi Hosted on Acast. The Valley Girl accent is a style of speaking associated with young women from California's San Fernando Valley (Northern suburbs of Los Angeles) in the 1970s and 1980s. It became famous through movies, TV shows, and pop culture, and many people now use "Valley Girl" to describe both an accent and a speaking style. As you know, it can be extremely useful to focus on one dialect/accent of a foreign language when trying to learn how to sound like a native speaker. In fact, this is something I highly encourage. — All I ask, however, is that when you’re learning to speak English, you don’t chose this one.If you want to listen to this show without interruptions from advertisers, subscribe to my patreon 👉 https://patreon.com/realenglishradioTimestamps:0:00 The Valley Girl accent0:47 Episode intro3:00 Speech analysis15:42 More examples25:18 Final thoughtsLink to the videos used in this episode:Clip #1 - https://www.tiktok.com/@michellee_lim/video/7341510309045292334Clip #2 - https://www.tiktok.com/@caitlyngiannini/video/7625812183267527950?q=valley girl accent&t=1780262046661Clip #3 - https://www.tiktok.com/@alexisoakleyy/video/7403136243799756075?q=valley girl accent&t=1780262046661Clip #4 - https://www.tiktok.com/@elizapearl0/video/7094073907539397931?q=valley girl accent&t=1780262046661Clip #5 - tiktok.com/@itsamyareias/video/7283559075987017006 Hosted on Acast.
