This weeks episode is a huge podcast as I interview Kennedy Hamilton-Kereama the former Tall Ferns Coach who has recently stepped down as the New Zealand National womens coach.
An amazing down to earth kiwi coach who is situated in Melbourne leading the Sunbury Club. Kennedy spent the last 8 years as the National Coach and shares his journey from humble beginnings in Christchurch all the way to the Beijing Olympics.
We talk about everything from how he started with basketball, 90s Karate Movies and trends he has seen in the international game.
I enjoyed talking to Kennedy and asking him questions that all coaches want to know.
In this episode we are talking with the Vince Minjares, Vince is one of the most philosophical knowledge banks around and is a Gym Rat.
I met Vince in 2014 at national camps and has always been an outside of the box thinker.
We Talk about the positive effects of coaching and how to be more than just an x and o coach, we talk about his time in NZ and his return back to Southern California and what is his next steps.
Loved talking hoops with Vince and has a very different perspective on what makes a good coach become great and how we can critically analyse how we see our roles in society.
This Episode we talk to Jaron Kung, Jaron is a lecturer at MIT in Auckland and has a passion in Strength and Conditioning, this podcast was great to get perspectives on what a coach can do to make his players that 10% better and ready for the season.
In this episode we are talking with the amazing Justine Reed, Justine is encyclopedia of all things Basketball and is a joy to talk to, she works so hard on the Girls Got Game Facebook page, if you aren't subscribed to that page go and do it now.
We talk hoops around her pathway to where she is today, we talk about the state of the women's game in New Zealand and how we can move forward and then go over what bigs need to do in this day and age to be relevant but overall we just talk for an hour.
Justine is one of the most genuine people I know and its great to have her share her knowledge and pass on what made things work for her.
Today we’re cutting it up with Caleb Harrison from the Mainland Eagles, the amount of knowledge gems dropped in this episode is crazy,
Caleb goes over how he got to the states as a young kiwi coach and his experience in the NCAA as a graduate coach at the university of Indiana state and day to day life as a NCAA assistant coach then how the Mainland Eagles came to be (25:00) and what their philosophy is with development and building players from the ground up.
We talk about building a defense from the scratch and how to make sure players are locked in.
A great podcast for young coaches aspiring to further their knowledge overseas and for players looking at NCAA scholarships
This is our very first epsiode of the Realest Coach in the Room Podcast, dedicated to the New Zealand Basketball Community, heaps of great insight of all things Basketball.
On our very first show we have Alex Stojkovic, he is the creator of Shot Maker academy in Hamilton and has a tonne of international experience with coaching, Alex is a great guy and it was an honor to have him come on.
In this episode we talk to Alex about his journey as a coach (12:30) then delve right into the 2017 Secondary School nationals (20:37), an interesting look at how teams defended screens and exploited mismatches (26:00). The bulk of the rest of the episode was dedicated to Rep Trials and what coaches look for(38:35) and also what coaches should be doing at a trial (58:20).
This is a very new thing for me so any sharing would be appreciated
