The TMNT franchise has been a model of reliability for 35 years. Through 3 movie series, 5 TV shows, and countless comics, the Turtles' formula has barely changed.  Splinter's wise, April's plucky, Shredder snarls, Leonardo leads, Donatello does machines, Raphael is cool but rude, and Michelangelo is a party dude. This franchise has been distilled into a parody of itself. But when you're rebooting for teens and preteens, maybe the best you can hope to do is update the pop culture jokes. The slasher genre is the tropiest around, and NO ONE tropes harder than Jason friggin' Voorhees. It's a franchise with no direction. He's a psycho-killer with nowhere left to go (you know, having literally been to hell, space, AND New York). The story's more gimmick than narrative. James Bond has been rebooted to obsolescence! Spanning 25 films, a half-dozen different actors, tones that range from camp to gritty, and more than HALF A CENTURY'S history, there's almost nothing the 007 franchise hasn't tried. They made so many, they ran out of source material!
