Jesus spends much of the Gospel of John saying, “My time has not yet come.” Again and again, he delays, deflects, and resists going public. Then, suddenly, everything changes—not because of a miracle, a confrontation, or a demand for proof, but because a group of outsiders shows up and says, “We want to see Jesus.” In this episode of Rebuilding Faith, we explore why that moment becomes the tipping point, why Jesus redefines glory as the cross, and why the universality of Jesus was just as offensive then as it is now.  Watch the episode on video: https://youtu.be/1pJwx80wZ7o  ----------------- Want to read my upcoming book BEFORE it comes out on March 31, 2026? What kind of king are we really hoping for? In this episode of Rebuilding Faith, we step into the tension of Palm Sunday — cheering crowds, shouts of Hosanna, and a Messiah who stubbornly refuses to ride a warhorse. As Jesus enters Jerusalem on a donkey, we uncover how deeply our ideas of power shape the faith we practice and the world we help create. From ancient expectations of military deliverance to our modern obsession with force and dominance, this story exposes an uncomfortable truth: the Jesus we celebrate is often not the Jesus we actually want.  Watch the episode on video: https://youtu.be/alj7CjfK6Ew  ----------------- Want to read my upcoming book BEFORE it comes out on March 31, 2026? This is a story many of us think we already understand... until we sit with it a little longer. In John 12, a woman’s extravagant act of devotion is met with a “reasonable” religious objection, and Jesus responds in a way that still unsettles the church today. Instead of debating logic or correcting the numbers, he protects the person. In this episode of Rebuilding Faith, we explore why that matters, how easily faith can be used to shame rather than to love, and who Jesus might be saying “leave them alone” about in our own moment. If you’ve ever felt uneasy about how quickly devotion gets policed in the name of responsibility, this conversation is for you. What happens when the buzz around Jesus gets louder, but the danger gets closer? In this episode of Rebuilding Faith, we step into the rising tension at the end of John 11, where rumors spread, crowds speculate, and everyone is wondering the same thing: Is he actually going to show up? As religious leaders quietly move from suspicion to resolution, Jesus does something unexpected—not avoiding danger, but refusing to be controlled by it. This is a conversation about wisdom, timing, and the kind of courage that knows when to step back without stepping away. Jesus raises a man from the dead—and the response is a committee meeting. In Episode 50 of Rebuilding Faith, we step into John 11:45–52, where resurrection doesn’t lead to celebration but to panic, because a clear view of Jesus threatens those in control. This episode explores why religion so often chooses preservation over faithfulness, how imagination becomes dangerous when power is at stake, and why the cross is never good news for people who like things the way they are.  Watch the episode on video: https://youtu.be/eqWFSDiu09A  ----------------- Join the online community and get access to exclusive content and experiences: https://www.jeremyjernigan.com/patron-sign-ups Trying to make sense of faith? Jesus doesn’t stay composed in this story. He gets angry. He’s deeply troubled. And then he breaks down and weeps. In John 11, standing at the tomb of his friend Lazarus, Jesus shows us something we rarely talk about—a God who feels deeply and who doesn’t rush past grief or explain it away. In this episode of Rebuilding Faith, we explore why Jesus’ strongest emotions matter and what they tell us about God’s heart.  Watch the episode on video: https://youtu.be/P6VDVihxCPk  ----------------- Join the online community and get access to exclusive content and experiences: https://www.jeremyjernigan.com/patron-sign-ups Trying to make sense of faith? What do you do when God could have shown up… but didn’t? In this episode of Rebuilding Faith, we step into one of the most emotionally honest moments in the Gospel of John. Lazarus is dead. Jesus is late. And Martha says out loud what so many of us have only thought: “If you had been here…” We talk about the kind of faith that lives in the tension between hope and disappointment. We wrestle with unanswered prayers and why Jesus responds to loss not with explanations, but with an invitation. This isn’t about forcing yourself to believe harder. It’s about learning how to see differently. What do you do when Jesus doesn’t make sense? In this week’s episode of Rebuilding Faith, we open John 11 and discover that Mary and Martha weren’t the only ones frustrated by Jesus’ timing. He says Lazarus won’t die… then announces Lazarus is dead. He even waits two extra days before doing anything. But buried in this story is a detail most of us miss, and it's one that changes everything about what we assume God is doing. If you’ve ever wondered why Jesus takes so long to show up, or why your prayers feel unanswered, this episode might be uncomfortably relevant. What do you do when Jesus quotes a Bible verse that completely dismantles the version of God you’ve carried your whole life? This week in Rebuilding Faith, we hit one of the strangest, most theologically explosive lines in the entire Old Testament—one most Christians have never even noticed. We’ll talk about why ancient Israelites didn’t see God the way most of us assume, why Jesus intentionally taps into a worldview we’ve forgotten, and how this strange little passage actually expands who God is—not shrinks God down. What if the reason some people miss Jesus isn’t doubt, but religion? In this episode, we look at a moment in John 10 when people surrounded Jesus and demanded, “Tell us plainly.” But the problem wasn’t Jesus’ clarity. It was their expectation that he submit to their system. We explore why Jesus refuses to fit into anyone’s religious formula, why that made people reach for stones again, and why so many self-described Christians today might be better labeled “religionists.” Watch the episode on video: https://youtu.be/xGTb7o3I4WY ----------------- Join the online community and get access to exclusive content and experiences: https://www.jeremyjernigan.com/patron-sign-ups Trying to make sense of faith? What if Jesus wasn’t trying to protect our borders, but break them open? In John 10, Jesus calls himself the Good Shepherd… but then says something that would have shocked everyone listening: “I have other sheep that are not of this fold.” What if the people we’ve been taught to keep out are the very ones Jesus is bringing in? In this episode of Rebuilding Faith, we explore how Jesus uses authority not to exclude, but to include. And what does that mean for a world obsessed with lines, labels, and walls? What if the biggest threat to your faith isn’t the world… but religion itself? In this episode, we look at one of Jesus’ boldest metaphors — calling out thieves and robbers who climb over the walls of faith to control others. We’ll talk about the difference between religion that steals life and the Jesus who gives it in abundance. If faith has ever left you tired, afraid, or burned out, this one’s for you. What if the people who thought they saw God most clearly… were actually blind? In John 9, Jesus heals a man who was born blind—and then tells the religious leaders they’re the ones who can’t see. It’s a moment of spiritual irony that still hits close to home. Because the question isn’t just for them… it’s for us. Are we sure we’re seeing Jesus clearly? Or have we confused being right with being light? In this week’s episode of Rebuilding Faith, we’ll unpack what it means to open our eyes to a Jesus-looking God—and how peace, unity, and love might be the clearest signs that we’re actually seeing at all. What happens when following Jesus gets you kicked out of church? In John 9, a man healed by Jesus is thrown out of the synagogue. Not because he did something wrong, but because his story didn’t fit the approved narrative. If you’ve ever felt isolated for seeing Jesus differently, this one’s for you. Listen to this episode of Rebuilding Faith as we explore what it means to be healed by Jesus but rejected by religion. When the world gets loud, whose voice are you actually hearing? In this week’s episode of Rebuilding Faith, we unpack what happens when a healed man is talked about as if he isn’t even there, and how that same dynamic plays out in our social media echo chambers today. When life breaks down, our first instinct is to find someone to blame to remove our discomfort. The disciples did it when they saw a man born blind, asking whose sin caused it. But Jesus refuses to play that game. Instead, he rewrites the story of blame into one of creation and healing. In this episode, we explore how Jesus transforms guilt into grace and invites us to stop asking, “Why is this happening to me?” and start asking, “What might God do with this?” Click here to watch the episode on video.  ----------------- Join the online community and get access to exclusive content and experiences: https://www.jeremyjernigan.com/patron-sign-ups Trying to make sense of faith? In John 8, Jesus pushes the religious leaders past their breaking point. They call him demon-possessed, mock his age, and throw stones at him. But instead of backing down, Jesus makes a claim so wild it nearly gets him killed: “Before Abraham was born, I Am.” What do we do with a God who doesn’t look like power, wealth, or influence, but instead looks like Jesus? What happens when Jesus tells the most religious people of his day that their true father isn’t Abraham—or even God—but the devil? In this episode of Rebuilding Faith, we look at one of Jesus’ boldest confrontations and why it matters for us today. Because while anyone can claim a spiritual lineage, Jesus reminds us that lineage isn’t claimed—it’s displayed. The question is: what does your life reveal? What if everything you’ve been taught about freedom is upside down? In John 8, Jesus makes a bold claim: true freedom doesn’t come from doing whatever you want—it comes from choosing the right Master. It’s a paradox that turns our cultural idea of liberty on its head. In this week’s episode of Rebuilding Faith, we explore how surrendering to Jesus is the only way to actually experience freedom. What do you do when people come after you online, especially when they do it in the name of Jesus? In this episode of Rebuilding Faith, we find that Jesus Himself knew how to stand up to unhealthy systems and call out bogus leaders, all without losing sight of who God is. If you’ve ever been told to “just preach Jesus” in a way that avoids conflict, this message will challenge you to see that sometimes following Jesus looks a little salty. Listen in and be reminded: looking like Jesus doesn’t mean staying quiet—it means standing for truth, love, and a God who is always with us.
