Becoming a grandmother is one of those life moments that sneaks up on you. In this episode, I sit down with DeeDee Moore, founder of More Than Grand, to explore what modern grandparenting actually looks like and how to navigate this transformative stage with intention and genuine joy. Whether you're about to become a grandmother or watching grandchildren grow from a distance, this conversation will help you create a meaningful role that works for your family.Key InsightsIntention Shapes Your ImpactClarify your purpose before stepping into the grandmother role. When you know what you truly want to pass on, whether love, resilience, or cultural heritage. it's easier to set healthy boundaries and resist the pressure to buy every toy or override parents' decisions.Communication Is EverythingThe relationship with your grandchildren's parents determines your experience as a grandmother. Most tensions arise from assumptions and unspoken expectations. Have honest conversations early and often. Ask before you advise. This isn't weakness, it's wisdom.Modern Parenting Is Entirely DifferentToday's parents are drowning in information and comparison. Educate yourself about current best practices and parenting trends so you can be genuinely helpful rather than a source of stress.Setting Boundaries for ProtectionIf you're the primary grandchild carer, have a clear plan before committing. Talk about sick days, holidays, and what happens if circumstances change. Regular check-ins keep resentment from building.Relationships Matter MostWhether you're long-distance, navigating blended families, or dealing with separation, genuine relationship holds everything together. Show up consistently, even when it's complicated.Moving ForwardStart by having a real conversation with your grandchildren's parents about how you can genuinely help. Your relationship with your grandchildren will be one of the greatest privileges of your life. October is World Menopause Month, and this year's theme, "Midlife Managed," couldn't be more relevant. In this episode, I explore why menopause is only one piece of a much bigger picture. While you're managing hot flushes and brain fog, you're also juggling career pressures, ageing parents, children leaving home, shifting relationships, and financial stress. This isn't about enduring midlife; it's about recognising the overlapping transitions and supporting yourself through all of them. I share practical ways to navigate this perfect storm and remind you that you're not alone in feeling overwhelmed by it all.Key TakeawaysMenopause is significant, but it's not the whole story.Midlife isn't defined by menopause alone. It's about managing career demands, family responsibilities, relationship shifts, health changes, and financial pressures all at once. When we only focus on symptoms and treatments, we miss the opportunity to care for ourselves in the ways we most need.Midlife transitions create a domino effect. You're rarely dealing with just one transition at a time. Career demands peak, children leave home, parents need more care, relationships evolve, and menopause sits on top of it all. Recognising this pattern helps you understand why you feel stretched so thin.Menopause is permanent, and your health needs will change forever.Once you reach menopause, you remain in that state for life. Your body has changed significantly, and your health must be managed differently moving forward. This makes the theme "Midlife Managed" so powerful. You have access to resources and community.Whether through the podcast library, the Better Than Before Wellness membership, downloadable resources, or the RE-IMAGINE mentoring programme, support is available. You don't have to figure this out alone. This is your time to pause, reset, and rediscover yourself.Midlife is full of transitions, but it's also full of opportunity. This is your chance to reconnect with who you are now and create a future that feels aligned, joyful, and uniquely yours. And if you're ready for something special, join Dr Sian Hebron and me on Saturday, 8 November, for the Shifting Tides event at Noosa Springs Spa Resort. It's an intimate and supportive gathering where you'll gain valuable medical insights, practical frameworks, and a genuine connection with other women navigating this stage of life. You can get your tickets at https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/shifting-tides-your-guide-to-menopause-midlife-whats-next-tickets-1681453666179?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshcopyurlConnect with meBook your 20-minute connection call https://calendly.com/jo--138/20min?month=2025-07 RE-IMAGINE: A personalised 1:1 six-week mentoring programme https://www.joclarkcoaching.com/work-with-me Share your journey with me by sending me a message on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/joclarkcoaching/ LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/joclarkcoaching/Email me your success story at jo@joclarkcoaching.com. Remember, there's so much untapped brilliance in midlife women. What if retirement isn't just about stopping work, but about reshaping your entire life? In this insightful conversation with bestselling author Bec Wilson, we dive deep into the financial and emotional realities of transitioning from traditional work to what she calls your "prime time years". Bec shares her unconventional journey from marketing executive to retirement thought leader, revealing why the years between 47 and 65 hold untapped potential for women ready to design their lives on their own terms. This goes beyond your typical retirement planning chat; and recognises the triggers that signal it's time for change and having the financial literacy to make bold choices.Key TakeawaysPrime Time Begins Earlier Than You ThinkThe science shows that between ages 47-55, most people hit what researchers call "the bottoming of the happiness curve." This isn't a crisis to endure—it's your cue to start designing the life you actually want to live, not just grinding towards traditional retirement.Financial Literacy Creates ChoiceUnderstanding Australia's superannuation system, age pension eligibility, and how compound interest works isn't optional—it's the foundation of freedom. Bec's example of Anna versus Dave shows how starting contributions just seven years earlier can mean the difference between having choices and being trapped. The Setup Phase is Non-NegotiableYour late 40s and early 50s are your window to capture extra money as kids become less expensive. Finding even $12,000 annually during these years can fund five years of part-time work or sabbaticals later, but only if you're intentional about it.Transitions Will Come Whether You're Ready or NotFrom career pivots and relationship breakdowns to health crises and retrenchments, midlife brings more transitions than any other life stage. The women who thrive are those who've built financial security before the transitions hit.Know Your Numbers Before You Need ThemWhether it's the downsizing concession at 55 that lets couples put $600,000 into super, or understanding how age pension asset tests work, the women who know these rules can make strategic decisions. Those who don't often miss life-changing opportunities by months or years.Moving ForwardThe biggest mistake women make isn't starting too late; it's waiting for permission to start at all. Whether you're feeling dead inside on Monday mornings, facing an empty nest, or simply recognising that the life you built isn't the life you want to keep living, your prime time years are calling. Bec's work proves that with the right financial foundation and mindset, the second half of your life doesn't have to be about decline, it can be about designing something entirely new.Don't let fear of "not having enough" keep you small. Start by understanding the systems that already exist to support you, then build your knowledge one conversation, one book, one decision at a time. Remember, knowledge without action creates no transformation.Follow Bec Wilson’s work belowSign up for weekly Epic Retirement Newsletters http://becwilson.net/newslettersListen to the Prime Time podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/prime-time-with-bec-wilson/id1710995058Visit her website for books and more at http://becwilson.net/  Email rebecca@becwilson.netConnect with meBook your 20-minute connection call https://calendly.com/jo--138/20min?month=2025-07 RE-IMAGINE: A personalised 1:1 six-week mentoring programme https://www.joclarkcoaching.com/work-with-me Share your journey with me by sending me a message on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/joclarkcoaching/ LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/joclarkcoaching/Email me your success story at jo@joclarkcoaching.com. Remember, there's so much untapped brilliance in midlife women. Have you ever felt like your confidence suddenly vanished without warning? You're not alone. In this solo episode, I dive into one of the most searched topics for women over 40, rebuilding confidence when it feels like it's completely disappeared. This isn't about fake-it-till-you-make-it motivation or quick fixes. Instead, we explore the real reasons why confidence often dips in midlife and, more importantly, the practical steps you can take to rebuild it from the ground up. If you've been waiting to feel ready before taking action, this conversation will shift everything.Key TakeawaysConfidence Dips Are Normal in MidlifeIdentity shifts, body changes, hormonal fluctuations, and societal invisibility all contribute to feeling less confident. Understanding this removes the shame and self-blame many women carry.Confidence Myths Keep You StuckYou don't need to be born confident, wait for big achievements, or feel ready before acting. These myths create an endless waiting room that prevents you from moving forward with your life.Self-Trust Is the FoundationEvery promise you keep to yourself builds confidence. Start small with micro habits like daily walks or morning rituals. When you prove to yourself that you're reliable, confidence naturally follows.Action Creates Confidence, Not the Other Way AroundStop waiting to feel brave before taking brave actions. Confidence grows from doing things while nervous, not from thinking about them. Each small step becomes a vote for the confident version of yourself. The Ripple Effect Is RealWhen you rebuild confidence, it doesn't just change how you feel internally. It transforms your relationships, work, boundaries, and the way you show up in every area of life.Your Next StepsStop waiting for confidence to magically appear. Start building it today through small promises to yourself, kinder self-talk, and brave micro actions. Remember, confidence isn't about becoming someone else—it's about rediscovering who you are and letting that woman shine. The woman you're becoming is worth every uncomfortable step you take to get there. If you're ready to go deeper into this work, I'd love to support you on your journey. In this honest solo episode, I share my personal journey through burnout and reveal why so many midlife women find themselves overwhelmed, exhausted, and questioning who they are beneath all the roles they play. After decades of wearing multiple hats as wife, mum, teacher, and caregiver whilst juggling perimenopause, aging parents, and career transitions, I hit a wall that forced me to reimagine how I live completely. This isn't just another episode about self-care; it's a practical roadmap for recognising the warning signs, understanding why midlife makes us vulnerable to burnout, and taking concrete steps toward recovery and prevention.Key TakeawaysBurnout Goes Beyond Work StressBurnout isn't just about demanding jobs. It's emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion that can result from prolonged demands, such as caregiving, managing households, supporting aging parents, or holding multiple roles simultaneously. Midlife creates the perfect storm where responsibilities collide with hormonal changes and identity shifts.Recognise the Three-Part Warning SystemBurnout shows up in your body through extreme fatigue, disrupted sleep, and frequent illness. It affects your mind with brain fog, forgetfulness, and difficulty focusing. Emotionally, you'll experience irritability, withdrawal, and loss of joy in activities you once loved. Don't ignore these signals for years like I did.The Power of "No" and Micro-RestThe most powerful tool for protecting your energy is saying no without guilt. Start with micro-rest practices that reset your nervous system: five minutes of quiet tea time, mindful breathing, short naps, phone-free walks, or switching off screens an hour earlier. These aren't luxuries; they're essentials.Recovery Requires Four Keys, Not Overhaul Recovery isn't about completely changing your life overnight. Focus on these four areas: restore your body through rest and nourishing movement, reset your mind with journaling or meditation, reconnect with trusted friends and supportive communities, and reimagine your rhythm by setting boundaries and rediscovering joy.Midlife Identity Crisis Fuels ExhaustionThe quiet voice asking "Who am I now?" combined with the weight of responsibility makes burnout particularly common in midlife. This stage brings career shifts, relationship changes, hormonal fluctuations, and children becoming independent whilst we're often still supporting aging parents.Moving ForwardYou are more than the roles you play, and burnout doesn't have to define your midlife story. Instead of wearing busyness as a badge of honour, ask yourself these three questions: What do I want more of in this season of life? What do I need to let go of? What's one small step I can take this week toward a more energised, fulfilled life?Recovery happens through steady, intentional steps, not dramatic overhauls. Start with recognising the signs, seeking support, and protecting your energy through boundaries and micro-rest practices. Remember, you don't have to navigate this alone, and it's never too late to create the life you truly desire.Connect with meBook your 20-minute connection call https://calendly.com/jo--138/20min?month=2025-07 RE-IMAGINE: A personalised 1:1 six-week mentoring programme https://www.joclarkcoaching.com/work-with-me Share your journey with me by sending me a message on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/joclarkcoaching/ LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/joclarkcoaching/Email me your success story at jo@joclarkcoaching.com. Remember, there's so much untapped brilliance in midlife women. Remember when being the youngest was part of your identity? Jo shares her personal journey from being the baby of every classroom to becoming a school principal at 26, always the youngest in leadership roles. But decades later, she found herself on the other side of that equation, and it was confronting. From the grocery store checkout where a teenager asked if she had a pension card, to walking into fashion shops and feeling dismissed, Jo explores the real challenge many midlife women face: suddenly feeling invisible. This isn't just in our heads; societal biases are real, but they don't have to define our story. Jo reveals five powerful strategies to bridge the gap between invisibility and the authentic power that comes with experience.Key TakeawaysOwn Your SpaceWhen you walk into a room, people notice your presence before you even speak. Stop shrinking yourself by staying at the back or crossing your arms. You've earned the right to take up space. Stand tall, maintain steady eye contact, and speak with calm clarity. Presence is about energy, not volume. When you step into the fullness of who you are, people will lean in rather than tune out.Draw on Your ExperienceYounger women might bring fresh ideas, but they don't have your lived experience. You've weathered storms, adapted to change, and navigated challenges your younger self couldn't have imagined. Share your stories in meetings, social gatherings, and your community. There's something magnetic about a woman who says, "I've been through this, and here's what I've learned."Build Connection Instead of CompetitionComparison only shrinks and diminishes you. Look for connection, collaboration, and mentorship opportunities. When you step into the role of connector rather than competitor, you naturally command respect. The older women you've admired radiated generosity, not rivalry.Shift Your MindsetThis is the most important piece. If you walk into a space thinking, "I'm too old, I don't matter," that's the energy you'll give off. Reframe it to "I'm experienced, I'm grounded and strong, and I've got more to offer than ever." Picture your 20-year-old self looking at who you are now, she'd probably be in awe, thinking, "she's pretty bloody amazing."Your Visibility Starts NowYou may not be the youngest in the room anymore, and that can take getting used to. But it doesn't mean you have to fade into the background. This is your time to step into a deeper, stronger, and more authentic kind of power. As women of our age, we may not have had these role models when we were younger, so let's be the role models for the women coming behind us.Journal on these reflection questions:Where do you notice yourself feeling unseen? What would it look like if you walked into that same space fully in your power? What strengths do you have now that your younger self didn't?Who models the kind of visible, vibrant presence you admire?Share your reflections with Jo via DM or email, and don't forget to listen to Episode #111 with Megan Della Camina https://spotifycreators-web.app.link/e/MiOU2gPyiWb and Episode #121 with Jackie Duckworth https://spotifycreators-web.app.link/e/9hRB72UyiWb for deeper dives into these themes.Remember: you are more than the roles you've played, and you hold the pen to your next chapter.Connect with meBook your 20-minute connection call https://calendly.com/jo--138/20min?month=2025-07 RE-IMAGINE: A personalised 1:1 six-week mentoring programme https://www.joclarkcoaching.com/work-with-me Share your journey with me by sending me a message on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/joclarkcoaching/ LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/joclarkcoaching/Email me your success story at jo@joclarkcoaching.com. Remember, there's so much untapped brilliance in midlife women. Are you caught in the trap of telling yourself, "when the kids finish school, then I'll focus on me" or "once work slows down, then I'll pursue my dreams"? In this powerful solo episode, Jo cuts through the excuses we tell ourselves and reveals why waiting for the perfect moment is costing us precious years of our lives. Drawing from neuroscience and real client stories, this conversation will challenge you to recognise the mental patterns keeping you stuck and give you the tools to break free from the waiting game once and for all.Key TakeawaysYour Brain Is Wired to Keep You WaitingNeuroscience shows us that our brains use the "not yet, it's not safe, you're not ready" narrative to protect us from uncertainty. This negativity bias keeps us clinging to the familiar, even when it's no longer serving us. Recognising this as a biological response, not truth, is the first step to freedom.Life Doesn't Stop While You're PlanningTime is a precious, finite gift that continues moving whether we're ready or not. The women who wait until their children leave home often find themselves overwhelmed by empty nest syndrome and identity shifts all at once, whilst those who plan ahead feel prepared and excited for their next chapter.Three Steps to Break the Waiting CycleFirst, catch your exact excuses and notice the stories you repeat to yourself. Second, take one brave, imperfect step this week, no matter how small. Third, simply decide that now is the right time because there's no perfect day circled on any calendar waiting for you.Small Actions Create Big ChangesYou don't need everything figured out to begin. Jo shares how starting her podcast without being "ready" led to over 150 episodes and a thriving community. One client who couldn't wait five more years took just one step, and it changed everything.Midlife Isn't a Waiting RoomThis season of life is an invitation, not a holding pattern. Instead of asking "when will I be ready?" start asking "what would I change if I decided now was the right time?" The answer to that question holds the key to your next chapter.Your Next Chapter Starts NowIf this episode has you thinking "this is exactly what I need to hear," consider this your sign to stop waiting. What's one small step you could take this week towards something you've been postponing? Whether it's booking that class, having that conversation, or writing down a dream you've been afraid to voice, your future self will thank you for starting today.Journal on these questions and notice what comes up for you. When endometriosis forced Jaimee to examine every product in her home, she discovered the average person applies 12 personal care products daily, exposing themselves to 168 different chemicals. What started as a health necessity became a business revelation when she bought Cooki Haircare, a low tox solid shampoo company with over 5,000 5-star reviews for their 'ultra-foaming' travel-friendly shampoo bars. A former editor and brand marketer with 15 years' experience spanning retail, startups and publishing, when Jaimee bought Cooki Haircare in 2023, where she grew orders from 11 to 160 sales per day profitably in 18 months. Today, they save 300,000 bottles from landfill annually whilst helping women navigate menopausal hair changes and chronic inflammation.Key TakeawaysYour Daily Chemical Load Is MassiveWe use 12 personal care products daily, exposing ourselves to 168 chemicals. One third of 318,000 beauty ingredients lack safety data. Many cause hormone disruption and inflammation. When dealing with endometriosis, PCOS, or inflammation, reducing toxic load significantly helps.Synthetic Fragrance Is the Worst OffenderContains phthalates that disrupt hormones and increase inflammation. Look for "phthalate-free" or essential oil-only products. Jaimee's stage four endometriosis became inactive after eliminating synthetic fragrances alongside other changes.Menopause Transforms Your HairHormones completely change hair texture, making it frizzy, flat, oily, or thin. Old products stop working because your hair has literally changed. Natural ingredients like ginger oil help prevent thinning, while purple bars help maintain grey hair."Clean" Marketing Tricks YouTerms like "clean beauty" and "natural" mean nothing. Check ingredient lists. Avoid synthetic fragrance (listed as "parfum"), parabens, silicones, and harsh sulphates. Start with trusted curators and educate yourself.Small Swaps Create Big ImpactDon't overhaul everything overnight. Finish what you have, then swap one product at a time. Each shampoo bar removes three plastic bottles whilst reducing chemical exposure. Why Midlife Women Need Low-ToxHormone disruption compounds during perimenopause. Inflammation increases chronic disease risk (80% of women over 50 develop multiple conditions). Skin becomes more permeable as oestrogen drops, absorbing more toxins.Take ActionStart with one swap. Check labels for synthetic fragrance. What started as one woman's idea with zero listeners has grown into something extraordinary. In this milestone episode, I'm reflecting on three years of creating the Redefining Midlife Podcast, celebrating 150 episodes, and sharing the profound lessons learned from interviewing incredible women and experts who are changing the conversation about midlife. This isn't just a celebration, it's a masterclass in courage, consistency, and the transformative power of taking action even when you don't have all the answers.Key TakeawaysStart Before You're ReadyThat quiet whisper, that idea that won't leave you alone? It's there for a reason. You don't need the perfect plan or everything figured out. Waiting for readiness often means waiting forever. The courage to begin is what separates dreamers from doers, and courage grows stronger each time you use it.Your Voice Matters More Than You ThinkIn a society that often tunes out midlife women, sharing your story becomes an act of rebellion and hope. When one woman hears your experience and thinks "if she can do it, maybe I can too," that's the spark that changes lives. Your experiences aren't just yours, they're pathways for others.Expert Knowledge Changes EverythingThe women who've transformed their health and lives through this podcast didn't just listen, they acted on expert advice. From discovering osteoporosis to recognising neurodivergence to advocating for better healthcare, informed action creates real change. Seek out the experts and trust their guidance.Growth Mindset Is Non-Negotiable in MidlifeThis isn't the time to shrink or play small. Midlife is your season to expand, unlearn what no longer serves you, and develop new skills. It's about getting curious about who you are now and opening your mind to new ways of thinking and being.Consistency Creates Compound ResultsShowing up week after week, even when it's difficult, teaches you that real growth doesn't come from doing what's easy. It comes from doing what's meaningful, especially when walking away would be simpler. Every consistent action builds something bigger than yourself.Moving ForwardThree years ago, I pressed record without knowing where this journey would lead. Today, this podcast sits in the top 5% globally and has reached women in 74 countries. The lesson? You don't need to see the whole staircase to take the first step.If this podcast has shifted something in you, helped you feel less alone, or nudged you towards action, I'd love your support. Follow the show, share it with another woman who needs it, and leave a rating on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. These small actions help more midlife women discover that their best chapters are still being written.Connect with meBook your 20-minute connection call https://calendly.com/jo--138/20min?month=2025-07 RE-IMAGINE: A personalised 1:1 six-week mentoring programme https://www.joclarkcoaching.com/work-with-me Share your journey with me by sending me a message on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/joclarkcoaching/ LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/joclarkcoaching/Email me your success story at jo@joclarkcoaching.com. Remember, there's so much untapped brilliance in midlife women. You are wise, strong, and talented. You just need the space to hear yourself and the courage to act on what you know. The second half of your life can be even better than the first. Let's make it happen, one episode, one conversation, one brave choice at a time.
What happens when perimenopause isn't the short sprint you expected, but a decade-plus ultra marathon? In this deeply personal solo episode, I share my unfiltered 12-year perimenopause journey that began at 45 and continues at 57. From night sweats that started as harmless foot-out-of-bed moments to crime scene periods, failed hormone therapies, migraine nightmares, and finally finding relief through an endometrial ablation, this is the raw truth about what late perimenopause really looks like. If you've been told menopause happens around 51 and you're still waiting years later, this conversation is for you.Key TakeawaysEvery Journey is Unique and Yours Might Be LongerWhile the average age of menopause in Australia is 51, some women (like me) are still in perimenopause well into their late 50s. You're not broken if your timeline doesn't match the textbook. You're just in the statistical minority that rarely gets discussed.Lifestyle Changes Help, But They're Not Always EnoughClean nutrition, prioritised sleep, regular movement, and stress management absolutely matter for long-term health and can improve some symptoms. But don't feel like a failure if lifestyle changes alone don't eliminate your symptoms. Sometimes you need medical intervention, too.Hormone Therapy Isn't a Sign of WeaknessChoosing hormone therapy is an act of self-care, not surrender. Finding the right therapy and dose is a process that takes time, patience, and often multiple adjustments. What works may change as your body changes.Advocate Fiercely for YourselfTrust your body's signals and keep seeking help until you find practitioners who listen and understand. If your current doctor isn't helping, the Australasian Menopause Society maintains a list of women's health doctors with specialised menopause training.Break the SilenceThis phase of life has been hidden for too many generations. Talk about it with friends, family, and your partner. When we normalise these conversations, we make this natural transition feel less isolating for everyone.Moving ForwardYour perimenopause journey might be a sprint, a marathon, or something in between, and all of these experiences are valid. When Alison stumbled into the world of housing advocacy through a simple volunteer opportunity, she uncovered a shocking reality: 405,000 Australian women aged 45+ are at risk of homelessness, with older women over 65 being the fastest-growing homeless demographic. But rather than accept this crisis as inevitable, Alison and the team at Sharing with Friends are pioneering an innovative co-housing solution that creates both security and community for women in the "missing middle" - those who aren't poor enough for social housing but can't afford to buy their own home.Key TakeawaysThe Hidden Crisis is Real and GrowingWith only 0.1% of private rentals affordable on the age pension, single older women face an impossible housing market. The stereotype of homelessness doesn't capture the reality—many at-risk women are educated, previously housed, and never saw this coming. The "Missing Middle" Needs New SolutionsWomen with modest savings (around $100,000) fall through the cracks—too much wealth for social housing eligibility but insufficient funds to purchase property. Traditional housing models don't serve this significant population, creating an urgent need for innovative approaches that bridge the gap between crisis accommodation and home ownership.Co-housing Offers Security Plus CommunitySharing with Friends' model brings five women together in purpose-built accommodation where each has their own studio unit plus shared common areas. With a 50-year lease structure, women gain lifetime housing security while building meaningful connections that combat the loneliness epidemic affecting single older women.Prevention Beats Crisis ResponseRather than waiting until women are homeless, early intervention models can identify and support those at risk. Understanding your assets, building superannuation, and planning for potential single life creates options before crisis hits. Small consistent actions compound over time to create security.Systemic Change Requires Multiple PlayersGovernment recognition of co-housing models, streamlined planning approvals, and funding support are essential for scaling solutions. But change also needs community advocates, professional pro bono support, and private donors willing to invest in preventive models rather than just crisis responses.Moving ForwardThe biggest tragedy isn't that older women face housing insecurity; it's that we have the knowledge and models to prevent it but lack the will to act at scale. Whether you're feeling vulnerable about your own housing future or secure in your current situation, this issue demands attention. If you're at risk, reach out to your state's housing support services and take control of your financial future. For Women Needing Housing HelpQueensland:  Housing Older Women's Support Service https://howss.org.au/Victoria:  Home at Last https://www.oldertenants.org.au/home_at_lastNSW:  Older Womens Network NSW:  https://ownnsw.org.au/Sharing with FriendsWebsite https://www.sharingwithfriends.org/Donation page https://shoutforgood.com/charities/sharing-with-friendsFacebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/821207472091664/Instagram https://www.instagram.com/sharing_with_friends_cohousing/LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/sharing-with-friends-foundation/Alison's business website  https://wellthyco.com/Connect with meBook your 20-minute connection call https://calendly.com/jo--138/20min?month=2025-07 RE-IMAGINE: A personalised 1:1 six-week mentoring programme https://www.joclarkcoaching.com/work-with-me Share your journey with me by sending me a message on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/joclarkcoaching/ LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/joclarkcoaching/Email me your success story at jo@joclarkcoaching.com. What you do today shapes your tomorrow. Money isn't just about numbers; it's about the stories we tell ourselves, the emotions that drive our decisions, and the beliefs we've carried since childhood. In this eye-opening conversation with award-winning finance expert Natasha Janssens, we explore the fascinating world of money psychology and why understanding your emotional relationship with money matters more than any investment strategy. Natasha Janssens is the author of Wonder Woman’s Guide to Money, a multi-award-winning finance expert and a regular contributor in the media. She is a qualified accountant, mortgage broker, behavioural money coach and ex-financial planner with over 20 years of experience. From childhood trauma to scammer vulnerabilities, Natasha reveals how our past shapes our financial future and provides practical tools to rewrite our money story.Key TakeawaysYour Money Story Shapes EverythingThe beliefs you formed about money in childhood, whether from experiencing scarcity, hearing "money doesn't grow on trees," or watching how your parents handled stress, continue to drive your financial decisions today. Start by writing your "money bio" to uncover these patterns and challenge beliefs that no longer serve you.Emotions Trump Logic in Financial DecisionsWhile we think money decisions are logical, neuroscience shows that the emotional, instinctual parts of our brain make decisions faster than our rational mind. Learning to slow down and engage your logical brain before making financial choices is crucial for long-term wealth building.Women Face Unique VulnerabilitiesScammers specifically target women in their 50s by exploiting fears about retirement security. Building confidence in your financial capabilities and trusting your instincts are your best defences. Remember: if someone pressures you to make quick decisions about money, it's likely a red flag.Take Time with Major Financial EventsWhether facing divorce, inheritance, death of a spouse, or retirement, resist pressure to make immediate investment decisions. Put lump sums in term deposits or high-interest savings accounts while you process and plan. Sometimes, doing nothing is the smartest financial move. You're More Capable Than You ThinkMany women who believe they're "bad with money" are actually incredibly resourceful and capable. Don't delegate away all financial decisions—even with advisors, ensure you understand and feel comfortable with every choice being made with your money.Moving ForwardThe biggest shift happens when you realise that money isn't about perfection, it's about awareness and intentional choices. Whether you're starting from financial stress or building wealth, begin by understanding your money triggers and creating space between emotion and action.Connect with NatashaWebsite: https://womenwithcents.com.au/ Take the money type quiz at https://womenwithcents.com.au/take-money-type-quiz/ to identify your patterns, then start small: track your spending emotions for a week, question one limiting belief about money, or have one honest conversation about finances with someone you trust.Book: Wonder Woman's Guide to Money: The Busy Woman's Guide to Money Management and Wealth Building https://www.amazon.com.au/Wonder-Womans-Guide-Money-Management/dp/0648244288 LinkedIn https://au.linkedin.com/in/natasha-janssens-wwcConnect with meBook your 20-minute connection call https://calendly.com/jo--138/20min?month=2025-07 RE-IMAGINE: A personalised 1:1 six-week mentoring programme https://www.joclarkcoaching.com/work-with-me Share your journey with me by sending me a message on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/joclarkcoaching/ LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/joclarkcoaching/Email me your success story at jo@joclarkcoaching.com. What you do today shapes your tomorrow. Five years ago, I faced what I call my "great midlife unravelling," a collision of grief, perimenopause, and career crossroads that left me questioning everything. Today, I've built a global podcast, mentor women worldwide, and live a life aligned with my deepest values. The difference? I chose to invest in myself when it felt scariest. In this personal solo episode, I share the behind-the-scenes story of how backing myself through meditation courses, masterminds, and mentoring didn't just change my career, it transformed my relationships, confidence, and sense of what's possible in the second half of life.Key TakeawaysThe "Later" Trap Will Keep You Stuck ForeverWe tell ourselves we'll invest in growth when work calms down, when kids are older, when we have more time. But what if later never feels easier? What if now is all we have? The women thriving in midlife stopped waiting for perfect conditions and started creating change from within.Free Resources Won't Create Deep ChangePodcasts, YouTube videos, and saved Instagram posts are helpful, but they won't make daily choices for you or do the inner work. When we don't pay for something, we don't pay attention. Real investment through time, energy, and money creates real commitment and sustainable transformation.Your Roles Don't Define Your WorthAsk yourself, when it comes to investing time and money in yourself, what do you think you are worth? Not what your job title says or your family roles reflect, but you, your dreams, growth, and potential. The answer reveals everything about what you'll allow into your life.Investment Creates Ripple Effects Beyond YouWhen you invest in yourself, everything expands around you. Relationships deepen, new friendships form, and opportunities appear that you didn't know existed. Your growth permits others to grow. Your courage invites others to be courageous.Small Steps Lead to Extraordinary OutcomesMy journey from lost educator to global podcaster started with a meditation course. Then books, then a mastermind that terrified me. Each investment built on the last, creating momentum that transformed not just my career but my entire identity. You don't need to know the whole staircase, just take the first step.Your Next Chapter Starts NowThe woman you're becoming in midlife isn't the woman you were five years ago, and she's not the woman you'll be five years from now. You're at the halfway mark, not the finish line. Stop waiting for a crisis or a magical sign to begin investing in yourself. Start small, start scared, just start.Ready to explore what's next for you? Book a free 20-minute connection call through the link below or visit joclarkcoaching.com. Mia Shilkin's story proves that our lowest moments can become the catalyst for our greatest transformations. After leaving an abusive relationship during COVID with no support system, starting over in a new state, and questioning everything she thought she knew about herself, Mia didn't just survive, she built two successful businesses and discovered a freedom she never knew was possible. Her raw honesty about the messy middle of midlife transitions reminds us that healing isn't linear, but courage is always an option.Key TakeawaysTrust Your Gut, Even When It's InconvenientMia ignored red flags she would have spotted professionally, proving that even experienced, educated women can find themselves in toxic situations. The moment she spoke her truth out loud—"I think I'm living with a narcissist"—she couldn't take it back, and that became her first step toward freedom.Your Strict Upbringing Might Be Your Secret WeaponWhat felt oppressive in youth became Mia's foundation for resilience. The discipline and boundaries her parents instilled gave her the tools to rebuild when everything fell apart. Sometimes the structure we rebel against becomes the strength we draw from.Career Pivots Can Happen at Any AgeFrom youth counsellor to property strategist to business owner, Mia's career path shows that professional reinvention doesn't have an expiration date. Her diverse experiences. even the difficult ones, became the unique combination that makes her businesses successful today.Isolation Can Be Healing When It's Your ChoiceAfter years of walking on eggshells, Mia spent two years alone with her dogs, listening to self-help audiobooks and gardening. This intentional solitude wasn't loneliness, it was reclamation. Sometimes you need to get quiet to hear who you really are.Freedom Means Deciding for YourselfMia's greatest joy is simple: "I can do what I want, when I want." After years of people-pleasing and trying to fit into others' expectations, she's learned that other people's opinions matter less than her own self-respect.Your Next Chapter Starts NowIf Mia's story resonates with you, remember this: it's never too late to start over, and you don't need anyone's permission to choose yourself. Whether you're questioning a relationship, considering a career change, or simply feeling restless in midlife, trust that inner voice telling you something needs to shift.Take one small step toward the life you actually want, not the one you think you should want. Join Jo Clark and women's health GP Dr Sian Hebron on 18 July 2025 at Noosa Springs Golf and Spa Resort.Book now: joclarkcoaching.com/shifting-tidesIn this essential conversation with Dr Sian Hebron, we're pulling back the curtain on why so many midlife women feel confused despite the flood of online advice. More importantly, we're doing something about it. Dr Sian and I reveal our plans for "Shifting Tides," an intimate half-day event designed specifically for Sunshine Coast women who want real, evidence-based guidance without the Instagram overwhelm. A chance to ask the questions that keep you up at night and get practical strategies that fit your actual life.Key TakeawaysMenopause Doesn't Happen in IsolationYou're not imagining it. Perimenopause and menopause collide with career peaks, aging parents, empty nests, and relationship changes. Understanding this perfect storm helps you navigate it with more self-compassion and realistic expectations.Information Overload Creates ParalysisKnowing what you "should" do isn't the same as knowing how to implement it in your real life. The gap between knowledge and action is where most women get stuck, especially when trying to follow one-size-fits-all social media advice..Small Groups Enable Real ConversationsGeneric information can't address your specific concerns. Intimate settings allow you to ask the questions that matter most to you. Whether that's about your changing body, relationship dynamics, or how to prioritise yourself after decades of putting everyone else first.Menopause Doesn't EndPost-menopause brings ongoing considerations for heart health, bone density, sexual function, and bladder health. This stage is about learning to live vibrantly for the long haul, not just surviving the transition.Micro Habits Beat Perfect PlansProgress happens when you focus on minimums rather than maximums. Having a plan for both your best days and your worst days means you'll keep moving forward regardless of what life throws at you.Next StepsIf you're on the Sunshine Coast and ready to stop feeling confused about menopause, "Shifting Tides" on July 18th at Noosa Springs Golf and Spa Resort is your opportunity to get clarity. Ever find yourself lying awake at 2 AM, mind racing through endless scenarios about that career change, health decision, or relationship challenge? You're caught in the overthinking trap, and you're definitely not alone. In this solo episode, I dive deep into why we get stuck in our heads, especially during midlife transitions, and share practical strategies to break free from analysis paralysis. This isn't about forcing yourself to make reckless decisions; it's about learning to move forward with intention, even when you don't have all the answers.Key TakeawaysOverthinking Disguises Itself as Being "Responsible"That endless planning, researching, and waiting for the "right time" often masks self-doubt and fear. Overthinking gives us the illusion of control but actually keeps us stuck. When you catch yourself saying "I'm just not ready yet" or "I'll wait until things settle down," recognise these as potential delaying tactics.Clarity Comes Through Action, Not More ThinkingClarity emerges from doing. Even small steps forward shift the fog and give you real-time feedback about what feels right and what doesn't. Progress happens when we allow ourselves to be beginners and aim for a "messy C" instead of waiting for perfection. You Don't Need to Feel Fearless to BeginCourage isn't about eliminating fear; it's about moving with the fear instead of waiting for it to disappear. Willingness creates movement. If something isn't working for you anymore, that's enough reason to explore a new path. You don't need anyone else's permission to choose yourself.Use These 5 Practical Tools to Break the CycleWhen overthinking hits, try these specific strategies as mentioned in this episode:1) The two-minute rule (if it takes less than two minutes, do it now),2) Brain dump journaling for 2-5 minutes without editing,3) Ask yourself "what's the next kind step?"4) Set decision deadlines to create mental boundaries, and5) Use the 5-5-5 rule: will this matter in five days, five months, or five years?Small Steps Create Big ShiftsYou don't need a perfect plan or all the answers. Start with one small, kind, doable step today. Whether it's making that phone call, journaling your thoughts, or finally saying yes to something you've been avoiding, movement in any direction breaks the paralysis and builds trust with yourself.Your Next Chapter Starts NowStop waiting for the perfect moment, the complete plan, or the fearless feeling—they rarely come. The women who transform their midlife stories aren't the ones who have it all figured out; they're the ones who begin anyway. What's one area where you've been circling? What's that decision you've been postponing? Choose one small, kind step you can take today and take it.Remember, midlife isn't the end of your story, it's where you step into your next chapter. You don't need permission to want more, to try something new, or to put yourself first. If you're ready to move from overthinking to intentional action, I'm here to support you.Ready to take action? What happens when a driven entrepreneur loses herself in an abusive marriage, then fights her way back to become the woman she always meant to be? In this raw and inspiring conversation, Danni shares her journey from building her first business at 19 to completely losing herself in an emotionally abusive relationship, and finally reclaiming her power to create a life aligned with her values. Her story reveals the messy, beautiful process of rebuilding after trauma while raising three children and growing a leadership coaching business that's making a global impact.Key TakeawaysRecognise your own worth without waiting for validationDanni's turning point came when a divorce barrister handed her a book about emotional abuse, suddenly she realised what she'd been living through. Sometimes we need an outside perspective to see what's right in front of us. Trust your instincts when something feels wrong, even if others minimise your experience.Healing happens in layers, not a linear progressionAfter leaving her abusive marriage, Danni spent years rebuilding through therapy, mindset coaching, meditation, and physical exercise. She's honest about still occasionally slipping into old patterns of feeling "not enough". Now she recognises it without believing it. Recovery isn't a destination; it's an ongoing practice of choosing yourself daily.Your nervous system craves familiar patterns, even destructive onesDanni admits she used to pick fights with her current husband because conflict felt "safe", it was what she knew. When you're changing ingrained patterns, expect your body and mind to resist. The discomfort of growth doesn't mean you're doing something wrong; it means you're doing something different.Choose who you want to be, then act as if you already areDanni writes in her journal daily: "I choose to be..." followed by the version of herself she's becoming. This activates her reticular activating system to notice opportunities to embody that identity. You don't have to wait until you feel confident to act confident, action creates the feeling.Strong boundaries create better relationships. Danni's relationship with her teenage children thrives because she speaks to each one differently based on how they receive information—a skill from her leadership coaching. She's honest about struggles without hiding behind perfectionism. Authentic connection requires showing up as yourself while respecting others' autonomy.Your Next Chapter Starts NowDanni's story proves that it's never too late to reclaim yourself. Whether you're navigating relationship changes, career transitions, or simply feeling restless in your current life, you have the power to choose differently. Start with five minutes of morning routine, even in the messiest seasons, everyone has five minutes for themselves.Stop waiting for permission to prioritise your growth. As Danni learned, knowledge without action creates no transformation. What happens when a woman who left school at 15, survived poverty and alcoholism, and rebuilt her life multiple times across continents decides that midlife isn't about settling, it's about soaring? In this raw and inspiring conversation with Lorraine, we explore a journey that proves your past doesn't define your potential. From Glasgow's tough streets to building a thriving international business empire in Perth, Lorraine's story dismantles every limiting belief about what's possible after 40. Her path through IT management, shamanic healing, and entrepreneurial success reveals the extraordinary power of staying open to reinvention at any age.Key TakeawaysYour Background Doesn't Determine Your FutureGrowing up in poverty with family alcoholism could have limited Lorraine's possibilities, but instead, it built resilience and street smarts that became her superpowers. The survival skills and fierce independence developed in difficult circumstances often translate into entrepreneurial strength and unshakeable confidence.Overconfidence Can Be Your Secret WeaponWhile society often tells women to be humble and modest, Lorraine's "overconfidence" repeatedly opened doors others wouldn't dare approach. She landed management roles she wasn't technically qualified for and built businesses in industries she knew nothing about—proving that believing in yourself completely can compensate for a lack of experience.Midlife Is Your Spiritual and Business AwakeningAt 46, Lorraine discovered shamanic healing, which became the key to unlocking her true potential in business and life. The deeper inner work of becoming a "hollow bone", clearing decades of protective armour, allowed her authentic self to emerge and her business to flourish organically.Build Something That Has Its Own Life ForceDistrict 32 grew from a small networking group to an international franchise because Lorraine and her business partner positioned themselves as stewards rather than controllers. When you create something aligned with genuine need and stay responsive to opportunities, growth happens naturally and exponentially.Trust Life's Perfect TimingEvery major transition, from leaving Scotland for love, to discovering shamanic work, to building her business, happened through unexpected encounters and spontaneous decisions. Learning to trust life's flow rather than forcing predetermined outcomes opens pathways you could never have planned.Moving ForwardAt 80, Lorraine hopes to look back with admiration for her boldness and refusal to compromise. That future vision starts with today's choices. Whether you're facing an empty nest, career transition, or simply feeling restless, remember: this isn't about finding your purpose, it's about permitting yourself to become who you've always been beneath the roles others assigned you.Your next chapter is waiting. There’s an uncomfortable space between who you were and who you're becoming. Many of us know it well. In this honest solo episode, I open up and expand on that "messy middle". The in-between place where old roles are shifting, new paths aren't clear yet, and everything can feel uncertain. If you're navigating an empty nest, career transition, health challenges, or caring for aging parents while wondering where you fit in, this conversation has you in my mind. Because this phase isn't a sign you're stuck, it's where real transformation happens.Key TakeawaysThe Messy Middle is Where Magic HappensThat uncomfortable phase between letting go of what was and not knowing what's next isn't failure. It's the cocoon phase where transformation happens. Yes, society tells us we should have it all together, but feeling uncertain while navigating major life transitions simply means you're growing, not failing.Start Small and Build MomentumInstead of trying to overhaul your entire life overnight (even though you want to), focus on one small, meaningful change at a time. A five-minute morning ritual, a short daily walk, or taking deep breaths before responding to stress builds the momentum, confidence, and clarity you're seeking.Anchor Yourself in Right NowWhen everything feels uncertain, grounding yourself in the present moment becomes your lifeline. Simple practices like breathwork, journaling, or sitting outside with your cup of tea remind you that right here, right now, you are okay. Even when the future feels murky.Name It and Claim Your SupportBring clarity by naming exactly what's ending and what might be beginning. Say it out loud or write it down: "I'm transitioning from this role into something new." Choose your support circle wisely. Not everyone will be helpful, and you don't need to take advice from people who haven't walked a similar path.Remember: This Too Shall PassThe messy middle isn't forever, even when it feels like it might be. This is a season of your life, and if you approach it intentionally, it becomes an opportunity to create something beautiful moving forward. You don't need it all figured out, just keep showing up for yourself, one small act at a time.Your Transformation is UnderwayYou're not breaking, you're unbecoming who you once were and becoming someone entirely new. Midlife isn't the end; it's the beginning of something extraordinary. Change is hard and messy, but it's also where the magic happens. So take that deep breath and ask yourself: Where am I in my own messy middle, and what's one small supportive step I can take today?Ready to explore what's possible on the other side of these transitions?Connect with me:RE-IMAGINE: A personalised 1:1 six-week mentoring programme https://www.joclarkcoaching.com/work-with-me You’re invited to a transformative 4-hour event I’m co-hosting with women’s health GP Dr Sian Hebron on 18 July 2025 at the beautiful Noosa Springs Golf and Spa Resort. https://www.joclarkcoaching.com/shifting-tidesShare your journey with me by sending me a message on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/joclarkcoaching/ LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/joclarkcoaching/Email me your success story at jo@joclarkcoaching.com. What you do today shapes your tomorrow. What happens when life throws you a curveball that changes everything? Kelly Buchan, a creative Australian mum in her late forties, discovered the answer when rheumatoid arthritis entered her world. In this raw and powerful conversation, Kelly shares how she's learning to navigate chronic autoimmune disease while building a 3D rendering business, parenting a teenager, and maintaining a 30-year relationship. From a traumatic childhood to finding love and stability, then facing the uncertainty of chronic illness, Kelly's story reveals the incredible resilience that lives within us all. At the same time, it reminds us how adversity can become the catalyst for living more authentically than ever before.Key takeawaysAdvocate Fiercely for Your HealthWhen Kelly's symptoms weren't showing up in standard blood tests, she could have accepted "you're fine" as an answer. Instead, she persisted until finding doctors who recognised seronegative rheumatoid arthritis. Don't let anyone dismiss your pain or symptoms. Keep asking questions, seek second opinions, and trust your instincts about your own body.Chronic Illness Requires Creative Adaptation, Not SurrenderKelly's journey shows that having a chronic condition doesn't mean giving up on life—it means redesigning it. She found creative outlets through social media and 3D rendering when physical activities became challenging.
