Description

Comedian Adam Blank hosts "Remember The Game?", a retro gaming podcast. Each week, Adam and his guest will select a video game that they grew up playing, and spend time reminiscing about what they loved (or hated) about it. Not intended to be a history lesson, "Remember The Game?" is more like a conversation you'd overhear on the playground as a kid. The discussions are all over the place, and are guaranteed to fill you with that warm, nostalgic feeling. (Or rage, like you felt with the underwater level in the original Ninja Turtles game). Either way, it's gonna be fun! New episodes every Wednesday!

And while I've played some GREAT PS2 games for the podcast, God of War II might just be the best of the bunch.I've loved the modern God of War games, and whenI finally played the OG a few years ago I thought it was really solid. I've been looking forward to diving into the rest of the series ever since, and hey hell, the sequel did not disappoint. In my opinion, this game raises the bar in every way from the first game. Better story, better graphics, MUCH better pacing, and more incredible boss fights. I don't even mind the reliance on QTEs (minus the Zeus fight, which is a little cheap). My guest this week is our resident Stpd Mnky, my buddy Daniel. He was there for the original God of War episode, and he's back for round 2 to help me remember the names of all these stupid Gods and to help me sing the praises of just a fantastic game. He'll be back for part III, and I can assure you it won't take another 4 years to get there. And before we take on the Gods, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, a new game collector asks for a little advice. Do 'spiritual successor' games ever live up to expectations? And am I planning on picking up any games on Black Friday??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 PS2 heavyweights: Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid 2, and GTA San Andreas.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

And for me and my bro, one of those games was Jaws for the NES.To be fair, it actually isn't the worst NES game based on a movie in the NES library. Or the worst LJN NES game for that matter. You sail around in a boat killing animals and collecting shells that you use for stronger guns to shoot Jaws. You also bomb jellyfish from a plane. And that's, well, that's pretty much. It isn't particular deep, but it's not particularly awful, either. My boy Dan from Dissect That Film returns to this week to talk about hunting sharks. He also gives me a bit of an explanation as to how this ties into the movie, WHICH movie it ties into, and we talk about ideas for a modern jaws game as well. This episode is longer than the game is. It's not a flex, but it is a fact. And before we look for a bigger boat, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week someone asks if Mass Effect 1 is worth getting through to reach the phenomenal Mass Effect 2? A few people ask about Kingdom Hearts, so I share my long-standing thoughts on that series and why I don't want to touch it. And what do I consider to be must-play NES and SNES games??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! If you can't find something to enjoy in this movie, I have to question whether or not you have a soul. The movie is to video games what Toy Story is to toys. We watch Ralph struggle in his role as a bad guy when he isn't really a "bad" guy, and when he sets out to prove it to the NPCs in his game, the world of Fix It Felix Jr comes crashing down. Add in an adorable sidekick, a badass heroine, and more video game easter eggs than you can count, and you have one hell of a movie.Pending RTG Hall of Famer Mark McCue is my guest this week and we praised the piss out of this movie. Laughing at our favourite scenes, pointing out the best cameos (and speculating on what it cost to get Bowser to appear)...this was just a really fun episode. No rage, no arguing, just two man-children geeking out about a movie for kids. And before we wreck it, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if Sega could take Nintendo down today if they were still in the console market? Are game consoles a good investment by the cost of entertainment today? And Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! It's a bye week here at RTG Industries, but I raided our Patreon archives to make sure you still had something to listen to while you're stuck in traffic. I've heard it described as playing a Stephen King novel, and I couldn't agree more. The game goes as far as to have you play AS a writer (Alan Wake), and while you don't write anything yourself, you stumble through a horror movie set in a novel, finding pages of a manuscript that keep the plot moving as you fight enemies with guns or flashlights. Or should I say guns AND flashlights. Combat isn't its strong suit, but Alan Wake tells a HELL of a story. The Al to my Barry, ye olde Bradley McCue, joins me on the show this week. He was as stoked to jump into this game as I was, and now that we're both done our first playthrough, we have a lot to say about this one. The entire game is 100% story focused, so if you've read this far (does anyone read these?), know that spoilers are incoming. And before we wake Alan, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week we talk the indie game Ball X Pit, the best games to play while high, and will we ever see Sega Saturn or Dreamcast games on Nintendo Switch Online?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One'!! I couldn't put it down and now I get why so many say it set the bar for remakes all those years ago.The OG Resident Evil is one of the most important (and fun) games ever made IMO, and Remake improves on practically every aspect of it. INCREDIBLE graphics, better controls, slightly less cheesy voice acting, and more. It takes all the ingredients in a great bowl of soup and someone makes them even greater. I don't know if I'd call this the place for newcomers to the series to start because of the tank controls, but I think it's an absolutely must-play for horror fans and one of the best in the series.RTG's resident evil, my buddy Patrick, is my guest this week. We have different opinions on some entries in the Resident Evil series, but we both agree this remake is top shelf. One of us doesn't care for the mansion setting though, and the other thinks that's crazy. And before we kill zombies, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week someone asks what Nintendo needs to do to stop being a villain? After their horrible year, do I still like Xbox more than PlayStation? And why didn't I launch the indie game podcast I was considering??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Nemesis is awesome, but the gameplay gets under my skin and just sets 3 up to be the weakest of the trilogy, IMO.That doesn't mean Resident Evil 3 is a bad game. It's certainly no Resident Evil 6. I replayed it for the first time in years to get ready for this episode and actually like it a little more than I did on my first run. There's a lot to like here, it's just surrounded by frustrating and tedious combat.RTG's Nemesis, my pal Tyler, is my guest this week. I FINALY played this one for the first time and damned if it isn't the most impressive video game I've ever played.I didn't love Vice City back in the day and kinda checked out from the GTA series after that. But hosting this show got me to play San Andreas, GTA IV, and now GTA V, and with each entry I like the series more and more. IV and San Andreas are fun, but V takes it to a whole new level. Michael, Trevor, and Franklin are awesome, the missions are entertaining, the story is interesting, and the world of this game is just, I know I keep saying it, impressive! Our GTA guy, Andre, joins me this week to break down the story mode of Grand Theft Auto V. We spoil everything, get into the quest for The Big One, talk about our favourite plot points and side missions, and heap as much praise as we could squeeze into a 75 minute review onto GTA V this week. A rare-perfect score is in contention on this episode. And before we theft autos, I put together another (super-sized) edition of the Infamous Intro! This week we talk about the crazy number of remakes and remastered we're getting these days. Did I score Mario kart World too high when I reviewed it?? And what 5 games do I consider 'must buys' from the last couple years??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! But for those of you that have been waiting patiently for a FE episode, I think the wait was worth it, because I love this series and I'm ready to start handing out some flowers. The Blazing Blade was the first Fire Emblem game to find its way across the pond and onto the GBA, and while it may be a *little* archaic compared to modern titles like Three Houses, it's still as good as tactical RPGs get. You control an army of soldiers through various chapters like playing a digital board game, and with the permadeath options waiting for you to make a mistake and a decent story to drive the game forward, I'd argue this is the best bang for your GBA buck outside of Pokemon.Resident RPG nerd Keegs makes his return to the show this week and we spent over an hour working though Fire Emblem. We talked story while avoiding major plot points so you can play the game untarnished if you want to, take a dive into our favourite (and least favourite) party members, and basically just sing the praises of the Fire Emblem series as a whole. And before we blaze blades, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week we talk about what kind of console I'd design if I had infinite money. I get into some details on my upcoming Extra-Life charity stream. And where do I stand on using walkthroughs while playing games?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! I recently played the Pixel Remaster version for the first time, so I wanted to give Cecil and friends another round of RTG.I don't disagree with anyone that says Final Fantasy VI is the superior game, but IV isn't without its charm. I love the characters, betrayals, and combat system, and personally I like the linear party management of this one better to future entries where you can mix and match as you please. It's really wild to see how far JRPGs have come since Golbez's started robbing jewelry stores, and I think FF IV deserves its flowers for helping the series evolve from its basic NES counterparts.Captain N of the Retrotopia podcast joins me this week and we both geeked out pretty hard over this game. A couple dungeons (Dark Elf) and characters (Spoony Bard) got under our skin, but at the end of the day I think we agree that this is a must-play for fans of the genre, and a great place for someone new to Final Fantasy to get their feet wet. And before we argue with Tellah, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks what the next big trend in gaming is going to be? What Mario moment blew my mind the most as a kid? And where doI stand on silent protagonists in games?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! I've had many people tell me that the sequel is a completely different game from the first, but that didn't stop me from wanting to give it a shot. Unfortunately, the new gameplay didn't really connect with me. I loved the first game's roguelike mechanic, but this one went more in the direction of side scroller, and while it's gorgeous to look at and the dialogue is charming as hell, it's just not that fun to play.My buddy David Rae makes his return to the show this week, and while he grew up playing this one, he's not sure if he liked it because it was a good game, or because it was the game he rented for the weekend as a kid. We don't go full 'Ecco the Dolphin' or anything this week, but the illusive Perfect Score isn't making an appearance either. And before we panic funkingly, I deliver another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if the price of a game should play a role in GOTY voting? Will games today be as valuable as classic retro games are in 30 years? And yep, I get it now. MLF is awesome. The football itself is fine. Personally I prefer Tecmo Bowl for my retro football fix, but this is adequate. Where Mutant League Football shines is, well, the mutants. Decapitating opponents, bribing (or murdering) refs, and pushing your opponents into outer space are just some the things that set this game apart from other classic football titles. Add in a great playoff mode, the ability to win games by killing too many of the other team's players, and some pretty solid gross out humour, and you have a game that's playable in 2025 as it was in 1993.My guest this week is the official referee of RTG, Mike The Ref. We had a great time taking some shots at NFL fans while laughing it up over all the insanity that is Mutant League Football. I get why all you Sega kids are so proud of these games now, and I can PROMISE you Mutant League Hockey is getting some airtime at RTG Industries sooner than later. And before we slaughter some ref, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week we compare the PS3/Xbox 360 wars to the SNES/Genesis battles of the 90's. And Super Metroid is fucking special. Some will argue this isn't just the best game on the SNES, but the best Metroidvania game ever made. From the atmosphere, to the music, to the controls (minus the wall jumping), Super Metroid doesn't really have a weakness. It's unquestionably one of the biggest NES to SNES leaps ever, and as a listener pointed out, it not only launched the Metroidvania genre, but it still does Metroidvania-ing better than games that came after it. Masterpiece is all that applies here.My boy Dan from Dissect That Film returns to this week to talk about his favourite game of all time, Super Metroid. The first RTG dedicated to Super Metroid was fun, but the audio was bad, even by our low standards. So we're here to right that wrong and give Samus the episode she deserves. And before we hunt bounties, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week someone asks what, if any, success I've had advertising RTG on the internet. This is absolutely one of the best run 'n gun games I've ever played. It's an arcade game, and it took me a little while to wrap my head around the idea that I was gonna die. A lot. But once I got over my fear of death I found myself lost in this game's charm, silly smooth graphics, and hella fun gameplay. This was my first Metal Slug, but it won't be my last.My guest this week is a living legend in the world of RTG, my pal Chris. He has been bugging me since episode 1 to cover Metal Slug 3, and I finally get why. But what about a game that isn't bad, but isn't good? It's just kinda, there? That's how I'd describe WCW Mayhem. The glory days of WCW were long gone by the time Mayhem dropped. THQ was taking their Revenge engine and turning it into WWF WrestleMania 2000, and EA picked up the bony remains of World Championship Wrestling to make a new wrestling game. The end result was Mayhem, a competent wrestling game with little replay value and a barebones career mode.I'm rolling solo this week, and while I still had fun playing WCW Mayhem, it made for a tricky review because there just isn't a lot of meat on the bone. But between the engine, ranting about Hulk Hogan, comparing it to other games from that era, and reminiscing about WCW as a whole, I managed to pry a 3-star match out of our game this week. And before we hit the ring, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I think the big jumps in console generations are a thing of the past? What's my favourite WCW match? And where do I stand on the Pikmin series?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 WCW "classics": WCW vs nWo World Tour, WCW Thunder, and WCW Backstage Assault.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Apologies everyone, a last minute delay in this week's RTG had me scrambling for a fill-in. Every second Friday over on Patreon, I drop an episode of Blank Ranks, where I do an arbitrary list of something random. The first episode went live a couple months ago and I counted down my 10 favourite Marvel Superheroes, and here it is for free for the internet to listen to and argue about. RTG will be back next week!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

I played it for the first time the month and thought I liked it enough, but some of you worship it like Special K!If you never played it back in '99, Soul Reaver is a little Zelda-ish. Some action, some puzzle solving, a dash of metroidvania. You play as a dude that got killed and is brought back for revenge, and you regularly swap between the physical and spirit realms to solve puzzles and kick ass. It's a little cryptic and confusing at times, and it definitely has a PSOne camera, but I liked it.My buddy Daniel just finished his first run through Soul Reaver as well, so he gave me an early morning call to talk about it. We both gave it decent scores, but I feel like we were a little harder on it than I expected it be. Have a listen and see what you think, why dontcha? And before we Reav some Souls, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if there's any gaming franchises out there that have never fucked up? What's an average day in the world of Adam Blank like? And would I ever do another episode where I'm playing the game while we review it?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 PSOne adventure games: Tomb Raider, Parasite Eve, and Dino Crisis.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
I had to skip RTG this week due to recording conflicts with my guests and summer holidays, but fortunately we have HUNDREDS or bonus podcasts on our Patreon to pull from to make sure you still get your fix. This episode originally aired for our Patreons back in February, and it's my spoiler-free review of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. I did tack a short spoiler-cast on at the end, but I'll warn you about 10 times and play music before it starts, so you're safe to listen either way. Enjoy the freebie and we'll be back next week!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

As a kid I found Dream Land too easy and it scarred me, but as I've gotten older I've grown to appreciate the simplicity that is a Kirby game. And while it isn't his best work, Kirby's Dream Land 2 is a beautiful walk through a puke-green park.Dream Land 2 takes everything the OG Dream Land game did and makes it better. Animal sidekicks with more power abilities. Way more levels. Save files. Optional collectibles. This game isn't making my top 10 of all-time list or anything, but for a Game Boy game, it's pretty damned ambitious. Our resident Game Boy junkie, Patrick, is my guest this week. While we both agreed that Dream Land 2 did a lot to build on the base of the first game, we found ourselves ranking the two in different orders. Honestly, I think we were both a little harder on this game than we intended to be, but we righted through ship with some solid scores at the end.And before we start swallowing, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks which Simpsons character would best fit in with Super Smash Bros? Someone asks how I feel about another popular "gaming" channel. And what's with my horrible @memberthegame social media handle?Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Really enjoyed your take on A Boy and His Blob — especially how nostalgia and trial-and-error combine to shape our memories of childhood games. The discussion about figuring out what each jellybean flavour did brought back a lot of those puzzle moments from retro gaming. I came across https://theropeapk.com/, which might interest listeners who like exploring alternative game versions or mods. Thanks for sparking these memories!

Another fantastic episode of this podcast. This South Park game was ridiculously fun but also ridiculously easy to play. In all honesty the easiness never took away from anything in the game.

I just found this podcast, I love it! Hits me right in the feels, I’m a huge gamer so this is perfect for me. It helps me through my 10 hour work days. I’m on episode 64. I hope this never ends. Being a big RPG fan I hope there is an episode on Secret of Mana. That is the game that got me into RPG’s, I try to not look ahead bc I like to see if I can tell the game by the music. 5 stars dude, you are funny as fuck keep it up.

One of my favourite hobbies when I have free time is playing online slots. That's something I feel I'm genetically inclined to. Visit a casino website like https://jackwin.com/en-ca/games/slots/providers-is-Microgaming/ (Microgaming) to play slot games online. The winner is Jack Win. Play Playboy, Immortal Romance and Major Millions, my recommendation. These are a few of my favorite online slot machines.
