Grace Latter is a writer, influencer, invisible illness haver, feminist and so much more. In this week's episode, we discussed her tumour, bowel surgery, and PTSD alongside her work as a model for brands like Dove and Stay Wild Swim. Grace advocates for a diversity of body types in the popular culture and better representation of people with illness, scars, and disability. She is an incredibly informed and well-spoken young woman with an agenda to change the conversations we have about illness and our bodies. Grace also recounts how her attitude to her body changed after her diagnosis, during her surgeries, and now, as she navigates living with her condition and loving her body, and speaks about how she is often confronted with the notion of not 'looking' ill and why our concept of ill people must change. This was a wonderful conversation and Grace's enthusiasm for what she does really shines through.Visit Grace's blog here and follow her @_gracelatter on Instagram where you'll find her boogying away (more on that in the episode).Hello and welcome to Renude, a podcast hosted by Sian Crucefix all about bodies. In this episode, I interview Martin O'Brien, a performance artist, and scholar. His practice and research are concerned with the performance and representation of illness and disability and consider existence with a severe chronic illness within our contemporary situation. He uses physical endurance, hardship, and pain to challenge common representations of illness and examine what it means to be born with a life-threatening disease. He has performed throughout the UK, Europe, and the USA and has been funded and commissioned by organisations such as Arts Council England, British Council, and the Live Art Development Agency.Martin and I discuss his work, illness narratives, how he surpassed his life expectancy of 30, and compare living with Cystic Fibrosis to the practices everyone is having to adopt because of Coronavirus. You can find out more about Martin by visiting his website here and by following him @martinobrienart on Instagram.Hello and welcome to Renude, a podcast hosted by Sian Crucefix all about bodies.
