As the sun was setting on the 2.5D FPS, one game emerged to pull out all the stops: Duke Nukem 3D. While Duke 3D was mostly known for its brash main character and his many violent acts, those who actually sat down to play it realized that 3D Realms' creation actually contained some extremely clever level design and a variety of player interactions that just weren't seen in the mid-90s. Duke Nukem Forever might have left a stain on the legacy of Duke, but we're here to remind you that, even 30 years later, his initial 3D outing still kicks ass. This week on Retronauts, join Bob Mackey, Stuart Gipp, Dominic Tarason, and John Linneman as the crew hails to the king and replenishes their supply of bubble gum.Retronauts is a completely fan-funded operation. It's that time of the year again, so hang your stockings, haul home a coniferous tree, and pack the required survival gear for another harrowing trip to the Retronauts Holiday Cabin in Parts Unknown. And for this 15th outing, we'll be taking a long, mostly confused look at Video Power: the Captain N also-ran that assembled a team of C-list protagonists for some poorly animated, Acclaim-promoting fun. (Before being completely retooled into a game show the following year.) So listen in as Bob Mackey, Henry Gilbert, and Drew Mackie as the crew assembles and attempts to learn the true meaning of brand integration.

Video games: can you dig it? Yes, and you can also dig IN them—which is the point of this week's podcast. What started as one man's dream to bury aliens alive has remained a viable concept in video games to this very day; Donkey Kong Bananza, we're looking at you. But how has this simple concept evolved over the years, allowing us to safely simulate tunneling underground without getting our fingernails dirty? On this latest installment of Retronauts, join Bob Mackey, Diamond Feit, and Jeremy Parish as the crew assembles in a Portland hotel room and imagines a new life underground.

evolution on dreamcast had the turn chart before ff10.
Laputa comes from Gulliver's Travels.
wait, I got the sega smash pack on dreamcast and I definitely didn't get it in a bundle. and it wasn't a used copy either. I also dont remember a text file. I only remember an installer for sega swirl on PC.
excuse me. apocalypse was an awesome game.
yes! thank you! I hated the music in the dbz English dub!
Fantastic! love hearing from Stuart and Thomas!
On the front lines in the march towards unbelievable idiocy in the name of inclusivity and representation. No meaningful conversation about video games. Unsubscribed.
Not even a Contra fan and I listened to the whole 3 hours 42 minutes! Great hosting from Stuart, and an excellent panel. I look forward to more with you all! Cheers.

Man, this show really fell off once they started changing the hosts. Imagine watching Seinfeld for nearly a decade and enjoying the characters and their interactions, then suddenly they decide to completely change the cast every few episodes. Tf? At least there's still the back catalog 🤷🏼
Jeremy almost sounded human in this one. Baby steps..
They totally gaslighted Stu about the Links in this one.
I love the episodes with Bob Mackey. He's so annoying.
Great hosting Stuart 👍
Really love how they made the first two Taito episodes exclusive to their Patreon, but this one isn't. If they're going to make Patreon-exclusive episodes, they could at least have some consistency.
Limited Run Games is trash. They recently fired one of their employees because of the accounts she follows on Twitter. Hopefully they never do another episode with these idiots again.
Excellent podcast! Stuart Gipp is my favourite presenter. Keep up the good work!
What a great episode. It's amazing how good this podcast can be when the presenters have a sense of humour.
whoa whoa no mention of Fable?? shame on you
