"We can go...we can just go": These words give Sean the green light to go into a full-on tangent once again. What follows is a glorious tangent about Mr Blobby, the (terrifying) 1990's children's TV character, or "Nightmare Fuel" as Liam puts it.Sean kicks it off by asking Liam, David and Mitchell what's annoyed them today towards the end of the Ace Venture (1994) review. This begins a conversation about Millennial technology, which somehow ends up at Mr Blobby. Thanks for listening! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Taking a detour from their review of Unbreakable (2000), Sean and Mark discuss the return of Doctor Who under the control of RTD. They talk the different accents since Doctor Who returned in 2005 and their hopes that the show can reach the highest heights once again.Sean completely messes up the Geography- incorrectly stating where Jodie Whittaker was from (She is from a part of Huddersfield) whilst Doctor Who has been based in Sheffield as of late. He compounds this by then getting parts of Yorkshire mixed up. Absolutely disgraceful.  The opinions in this podcast are purely my own and come from a place of love for the show (as I'm sure do Mark's) and sadness to see it struggling in the ratings and having arguably lost it's way.  Hosted on Acast. Starting with a mini-beer review and a James Bond discussion, Sean welcomes Bill from 'Bill Reads Bad Reviews' back to Review It Yourself. Bill brings a really eloquent argument for Skyfall (2012), whilst Sean just repeats "it's stupid" over and over again. The disappointment in Bill's voice is heart-wrenching.  -The strength of the characters in the film.  -That feeling you get when leaving the cinema after seeing a great film.  -Sean needs to lay off the history the books, as he repeatedly calls Barbossa, Barbarossa. IN THE NAVY! YOU CAN SAIL THE SEVEN SEAS...Sean is joined by Nick from 'Let's Get Trashed' podcast. Nick is here to defend the under-rated Down Periscope (1996). Nick is faced with questions about when he first saw the film and what he thinks is the reason behind the film's poor-reception. Discussion Points:-Sean is disgusted this film is only 11% Rotten Tomatoes, further compounding his refusal to use the site in his podcast ever again. -The under-dog nature of the story. -The writing quality of present-day films.-Nick brings up superhero films.Random Questions:-Should you give command of a submarine to a man with a 'Welcome Aboard' tattoo?-Did the Navy popularise tattoos?-How bad is Jane Leeves accent in Frasier?-Have you ever mixed-up Rob Schneider and Roy Scheider?-Why are all the reviews from 4-8 years after the film was released?-Are you pro-Waterworld?-Do certain films get bad reputations?-How bad can Indiana Jones 5 be?-What happened to submarine films?Random Quotes:-"You do realise you're going to have to sit through some sh*t don't you?"-the realisation of the Defend It Yourself dawns.-"People from Manchester don't talk like that!"-"I like U-571, I mean historically it's horrific".-"But she's already dead what's the point?"-[How high does Sean's voice go].Random Film Recommendations:-K-19: The Widowmaker (2002).-Coherence (2014).Definitely Not Recommended:-Geostorm (2017).Thanks for listening! Sean is joined by Alexia from Titanic Talkline to review the Titanic documentary Ghosts of the Abyss (2003), which documents James Cameron's 2001 expedition. This was his first journey back to the Titanic wreck since 1995, when he shot footage for his Titanic (1997) motion picture. This episode is accessible for both those who are familiar with Titanic history and those who may know less about the shipwreck, as both Alexia and Sean do their upmost to explain the documentary as fully as they can. Sean scuppers the discussion partway through with a very distracting mug.Discussion Points:-Beloved and lost treasure Bill Paxton.-The main players in the documentary and how it was very much a family affair.-The unseen troubles which befell the expedition, which is not shown in the documentary film but is documented in the book.-How dangerous it is just to live on the boat. -Visual Navigational Aids-what they are and how they are critical to explore the wreck safely.-Sean's theory as to why memorial plaques are left on the stern rather than the bow.-Alexia's surprisingly good English accent.Random Questions:-How many times does Sean tell everyone he's read the book?-Do a lot of Titanic documentaries skip how difficult and dangerous it is to dive to the wreck?-Whilst on-board the Keldysh, what did Bill Paxton get told off by a Russian crewmember for?-Does the resolution of older images of the Titanic wreck compared with the most recent 8k footage (during the Ocean Gate in 2022) of Titanic make the deterioration of the wreck look worse?-Did you know Titanic movie parody merchandise exists? (Sean didn't).Random Quotes:-"If you haven't already tuned out".-"Unless you get a really benevolent squid, you're screwed"-"Good segway, there's a biologist on board".-"The front of the ship, the bow, is really romanticised, obviously the film helps...it looks kind of like normal...but then you look at the stern of the ship and it's like a death you've never experienced". -"Diving to the ship takes more from you than it will ever give".Correction: The lifeboat lowering is from the documentary Titanic: 20 Years Later with James Cameron.Disclaimer-It is disputed as to what happened to Bob Ballard's 1986 expedition plaque, some claim it was stolen, whilst others think it slipped from it's original position and was covered by sediment. Alexia will return to take part in the Defend It Yourself series, to defend Showgirls. Thanks for listening!   Hosted on Acast.
