Welcome to another episode of RIDE WITH JANICE.   A free dressage focussed equestrian podcast by Master Pilates Instructor and Dressage Rider, Janice Dulak. Janice wraps up her Season 2 with an OFF THE HORSE  / ON THE PORCH discussion about self-care as we launch into Winter [Northern Hemisphere] and maybe ride less due to the holidays and family commitments. Looking after your horse by looking after your body is just so important! Use Pilates as a way to substitute the body workout that you might have when you are riding more.  Go back over our past episodes and use them as warm-ups and training opportunities. Question - Does anyone have something to add to Season 3?  If you have specific questions or thoughts on what you would like to know more about you can email us customersupport@pilatesfordressage.com  As an example, maybe it is about one of the podcasts you've listened to and had a question about, or if you have something exciting you're working on and like Janice to help you get there! If you have loved RIDE WITH JANICE, Ridermanship® would be the ultimate for your body and therefore your riding and your horse. Janice explains more about the 6-month online course you can take in early 2023 that makes a commitment to your strength and riding commitment. We are working on adding a few additional learning opportunities to the video, zoom and learning resources that already exist, along with access to our Facebook Group for Ridermanship® Students and Alumni. There you can get access to Janice's advice ANYTIME! Plus connect with other like-minded riders. It can take TIME to see change.  There are no quick fixes when it comes to our bodies.  Yes, you have to do the work. But boy is it worth it! To read more about Ridermanship® sign up for our email list and visit the page HERE.  To get started on something RIGHT NOW, we have our audio series Ridermanship® Rookie. An audio coaching series that will introduce you to the concepts you explore further in Ridermanship®.  It is 3 easy to do lessons and right now you can access it at a sale price of just $99.95
Welcome to another episode of RIDE WITH JANICE.  A free dressage focussed equestrian podcast by Master Pilates Instructor and Dressage Rider, Janice Dulak. Today we are talking with Linda Parelli, known globally as an incredible horse trainer, rider, author and creator of Happy Horse Happy Life, a training program where you can Inspire Your Horse and Yourself! Janice and Linda have been friends and colleagues for many years.  Join them as they talk about Fear, Leadership, Horse and Human Psychology and how to stay motivated and empowered with horses. A not-to-miss episode. No horse is required for this one!  Just sit back and enjoy. *********** A bit about Linda Parelli : Linda Parelli is co-founder of Happy Horse Happy Life, Parelli Natural Horsemanship and Pegasus Personal Growth, a dynamic public speaker, and the author of numerous articles, books, courses, DVDs, self-development and equestrian programs including her new Happy Horse training program, How to Talk Horse. She is considered the leading female expert on horse psychology-based training and mindful riding, empowering her students to be better leaders, riders and communicators with her unique approach to teaching. A bit about Janice Dulak :  Janice Dulak is a former professional dancer, a Romana’s Pilates Master Instructor Trainer and a USDF Bronze medalist. Her path from dancer to dressage rider, combined with her clear and concise distillation of the Pilates Method, creates Pilates for Dressage®, the original rider transformation program. Janice is passionate about helping riders achieve their riding goals. As a dancer trying to learn to ride dressage, Janice noticed that there was a language barrier between the instructor and rider. For example, if an instructor were to say “use your leg” to a dancer, that could actually mean anything. Janice has created a vocabulary for both instructor and rider that is meaningful and teaches riders how to do what the instructor is asking. Janice has many resources for the dressage rider in addition to her online course Ridermanship®, she also has audio coaching programs, this podcast, DVD's and books.  Find it all on her website - www.pilatesfordressage.com

INTERVIEW WITH PETE RODDA  Join Janice Dulak and Pete Rodda [Natural Horsemanship Style Trainer from Ocala Florida] as they discuss how horses think! Both share a passion for learning, understanding and teaching the WHY not just the HOW when it comes to horses and riding. This 30-minute chat has many learning moments so be sure to grab a notebook and pen! Find Pete on Facebook for more. : CLICK HERE  Of course to find Janice, learn more about her books, DVD's, self-guided training audio series Ridermanship® Rookie or anything else 'Pilates For Dressage®' related - head to www.pilatesfordressge.com ABOUT PETE : At a young age Pete was fascinated with animal training and behavior. While in college, he pursued an animal science degree where he discovered an aptitude for getting along with horses that no one else could handle. His innate abilities allowed him to build rapport with the horses that he worked with. Pete continued his education by learning from and dedicating his time to some of the top horsemen in the US. Pete has now been teaching and training professionally across the country for over 15 years and has created his own training program called Complementary Horsemanship. Pete’s style of training is based on psychology and understanding how horses communicate. He enjoys showing his students how the groundwork they do directly relates to the work they do in the saddle. Pete has developed a sequence of exercises called Walk the Line that will increase relaxation, connection, confidence and communication in both horse and human. Along with Walk the Line, Pete uses his fun and imaginative personality to enable his students to better understand the nature of the horse.
Get ready to feel it! Leave the horse in the pasture/barn for this episode. Today we are going to get our bodies ready for a ride.  Nice and loosey-goosey. Your calves, your hips, your ankles, your knees, your hamstrings and your quads. Everything will be warmed up and limber. You will need a wall, a chair, and a 3-rail fence... Ideally, you will be in your nice 'stretchy' pants. If the hope is that the horse will mimic our bodies, then you want to be relaxed, warmed up and ready to work. This episode of RIDE WITH JANICE takes on a slightly different style. We're calling it INTERVIEWS WITH JANICE.   Meet Alejandro Salazar from Florida. Alejandro is an FEI jumping and dressage rider and USDF Gold medalist specializing in the training and instruction of hunter, jumper and dressage horses and riders in the Gainesville/Ocala. He is available for clinics anywhere in the US and Latin America. He is the first trainer in the United States to be certified as a trainer by both USDF up to 4th level and USHJA and has ridden as an international competitor in both Grand Prix Dressage and Grand Prix jumpers throughout his riding career. Alejandro's passion for horses and riding began when he was a young boy in his homeland of Costa Rica. Now as a professional trainer and competitor, his enthusiasm, expertise and dedication to the sport he loves is demonstrated in all aspects of his programs -- from elevating the abilities and performance of seasoned competitors to starting the young horse under saddle. Janice Dulak met Alejandro through, of course, horses...  After considering selling NOVI (one of Janice's horses) to a friend, Alejandro came to ride Novi and check out his suitability.  It was after watching him ride Novi, that Janice decided to keep him AND Alejandro! After her first lesson she knew Alejandro had a like-minded approach to horses and teaching... "It was magic.  I loved the simplicity of his teaching.  It was all about what I teach!  Basics!"   Ever since, Alejandro has come to help out with riding and training all of Janice's horses...   You can reach out to Alejandro at the following links. Tense & Release

2022-07-1312:36

In this episode [pod-class], Janice explains how 'energy' can alter the results of things while riding. Working out how our muscles work, and how much tone/tension we need to have, whilst on the flip side, how much relaxation we need, is a big help to our horse.   Confused? That's normal!  Ride along with Janice and it will all make sense. Your horse may tell you some interesting things while you play with tightening your body and releasing it.   What is their reaction?  How does that alter the way you will ride in the future? *** We suggest having your horse warmed up and saddled as you hit play.  Many people enjoy using wireless headphones, but be sure to still have awareness of your surroundings.  Noise Cancelling mode isn't ideal.  You may also simply like to have your phone in SPEAKER mode as you ride and have your phone secured in a carrier or zip pocket. Hands

2021-11-2413:47

Join Janice Dulak once again as we explore more about HANDS. Like all body appendages, knowing what to do (or what not to do) with them is so important to our riding. In this edition of RIDE WITH JANICE, Janice will give you some 'ride changing' advice about how your hand's position, movement, and muscle tension should be factored into each ride. During this episode, Janice will remind you of two main principles - to : Do something/nothing with your hands, so you don't do something with your hands - Confused? You won't be! Think about muscle tension and the dynamic nature of how much pressure we need in our hands to get a response from our horse. Mentioned in this podcast is German Dressage Trainer Hubertus Schmidt - You can find him online at https://www.hubertusschmidt.com Want to Progress Further?  Like What You Hear? Grab your horse and begin a fascinating episode about the CORE and how best to use it. You will also hear the science behind it, how your horse has to use their abdominals, and how to influence your horse's speed by our use of ours.
