I was thinking during the break about that somewhat lame Rain sound effect I used in the first half. That got me to thinking about songs that have the Sound Of Rain in them. And what was the first one I remember hearing? The Academy Awards are in April this year.So in this Episode I will present, and it's just my opinion, the Award For Best Song That Contains Rain Sound Effects! What would be your favorite, or do you agree with me?Have a listen and find out!Mike
This is another of those Theme Series I long thought about doing.I like the Rain- of course I like Snow better- but Rain can be very enjoyable, romantic, calming and a whole lot of other things.I should hit on some songs you have forgotten about and have not heard in years in this Series. And for the sake of Realism, I will even start with that Period Just Before It Rains.Let's have some Musical Fun and Get Wet Together!Mike
Well, we have been through Birth, Childhood, Adolescence, Marriage, Child Rearing, Middle Age and Old Age.And we have put it off for as long as possible, just like in Real Life. But now...now it is Time For Us To Die!It is part of The Cycle Of Life. However, you should know me by now, and you don't think I'd leave you all depressed and bummed out with a bunch of Sad Songs do you?Of course not.I wish you a Long Wonderful Life, and that I can be a Part Of It!Mike
In the last Chapter of the Cycle we hit Middle Age. This week The Cycle Of Life takes us into Old Age.And while it has its Joys, it comes with its own Perils too- Loneliness, Senility, the ever present Specter Of The Grim Reaper to name a few.But so what, we made it this far, Let's Grow Old Together!Mike
Alright I an going to wrap up the Product Placement In Song, with paper and cardboard boxes. It's time for some good old Junk Food and Where To Get It!Candy, Soda, Ice Cream, Pizza, even Cigarettes to close out a meal, lol!And Memories of a Shopping Mall where such items were once available.Plus I would have been remiss if I had left out Alcoholic Beverages.I will close the Series with a Song I knew I would end with even before I started! This Product Placement was tons of fun for me, I hope you enjoyed it too.Get on that Bus with me one last time, and let's go Shopping!Mike
It's more Product Placement In Song, if you can handle it...and I think you can, lol!I have chosen Airlines to begin, Specific Brand Name Airlines hidden or obvious in the Tunes, and starting with some Heavy Hitters! In doing these Shows I have come to the conclusion that Cars are the most commonly Placed Product in Music. They come right out and name them, far too many for me to play anywhere near all of them, so just a few that caught my whimsy. And I'll throw in some Junk Food by the end of the Episode.I'll have one more Chapter after this- when I sink my teeth into a Theme, I really sink, lol!Join me, this one is a real Mixed Bag!Mike
After Magazines in the last Episode, I have the Product Placement of Newspapers in Music. There should be a surprise in here. And including one particular Paper rolled up and used as a Potential Bug Killer!Come on. we've all done that, lol! After that disgusting thought, we'll listen for Breakfast Food. And ending with a Non-Brand, Non-Name we don't know what the hell it is...or what they are!I have more than enough Product Placement Music for another two-part Show next week, and that's what I will do.Meanwhile, give a listen to this Chapter, it's got some Laughs!Mike
I have more Product Placement, and I am going to start with a Song that really doesn't belong on a Rock Show. But this little Rockollections Thing is a Free-Form Animal with a VERY Broad Policy about what can be included!I'll give you a little taste of Cherry Cola for reference purposes. Then some easy to catch Specific Brand Names that are in the Song Title!Including a mode of transportation followed by a suggestion on where to stay when you get to your destination. After that it is Product Placement In Song for Magazines, that gets a bit more challenging as it goes along.Join me for another Chapter of an interesting Series I am having fun with, and hope you are too!Mike
In my attempts to present Our Music from Different Angles, it's a new Series on Product Placement!I have done Namedropping, some Songdropping, so a natural procession down that same road.Remember now, we are listening for Specific Brand Names! And If Bob Dylan is the King Of Namedropping, I think I have found the Master Of Product Placement! So firstly, a few Songs from him. Then one of the most famous Brand Names in the world- Coca Cola or Coke!We all know the story of the Kinks with Coca Cola, and the BBC not playing their song until Ray Davies changed it to Cherry Cola.I've got that one and more!Give a listen, see how it fits, tastes or anything else, I think you'll enjoy it!To be continued next week.Mike
I want to start a new Series on Product Placement In Song! It's been used in Movies for years, now Television, and probably the longest in Song! And I am talking about Specific Brand Names here! You should know the story of E.T., M&M's and Reese's Pieces- if not I'll give you a short summary.I'll start off with some easy ones to give you a feel for how I am going to handle this. Some blatant Songs that have the Product in the TITLE!But some are subtle, buried even in some of our Favorite Songs! This should be fun, maybe make you listen a little closer to what I play.So get on the Bus with me, for a Magical Product Placement Tour!Mike
I've got one more song about Kids Growing Up and Leaving Home, my favorite- saving the Best For Last! After that, I'll play a snippet from a show I did in 2006, the only time the day of a show fell on my Birthday- and I tried to be cute, something I should never do, lol! Then the next step in The Cycle Of Life, we move Kicking and Screaming into Middle Age.Hey, it happens! So join me, there's more good Music in this Chapter.Next, let's Grow Old Together!Mike
No longer Teenagers, we are in our 20's or 30's now, Fall In Love and Get Married. And the next step in The Cycle Of Life is Having Kids of Your Own.Raising them, until the day comes when they grow up and Leave Home Themselves. Those little ingrates, lol!Join me and give a listen, some real good Music in here.Mike
We are heading into the Teenage Years, and all the Growing Pains that come with that.Falling In Love is one of them. And let me tell you now if you are a Teenager- it will end in disaster, catastrophe, forget it, lol!So be prepared!Another problem is fitting in, with all those insecurities you will outgrow but are very real at this point in The Cycle Of Life.By the time this Chapter winds up, we will be in our 20's, and ready to make some serious decisions.Climb aboard! This Bus, like Life, is moving fast!Mike
In the time since our last Episode, we have grown up quite a bit- we can crawl, stagger, walk, get into mischief, even dance. Our Parents have dreams for us, and we might even have our own. These are Good Kids, nice ones.Enjoy it while you can, it doesn't last long! We'll be moving into the Teenage Years before you know it.But first, Some Quality Time With The Kids!Mike
This St. Valentine’s Day Edition continues with a Valentine’s Day Song that shouldn't be played on Valentine’s Day, lol! Then some Music for Lovers Active and Seeking.A beautiful Cover of the Beatles, a #1 Song, and a Song that has always meant something to me because it contains the word "REQUIRED"!After that, a favorite of mine that went largely unnoticed until it was a hit done by Perry Como, of all people, lol!Other Music of course, and something I like to do- end with the Moody Blues.Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!I wish you a Day filled with Love, Kisses, Hugs, Cupids, Flowers and Chocolate, or any combination thereof!Mike
The Super Bowl is over, and now we can turn our attention to Valentine’s Day.For it, I was thinking that under any circumstances, Lovers being kept apart is Sad.With this damned Pandemic that I am sick of, it doesn't even have to be by a lot of Distance!A Set for that, and we will prevail! And when we do, a lot of Holding Tight and Dancing Close, even in the Aisles Of The Five And Dime!Which I guess now would be a 99 Cent Store, where nothing is actually 99 Cents, lol! It's a Valentines Day Show.Come and join me for the ride!Mike
This is it, the Grand Finale of the Salute To Elvis, a Series I should have done years ago!Presley was the Rockabilly Cat, the Sexy Threat Posed By Rock & Roll, and he gave it a Face! And he went from a Two-Room Shack to the Mansion On The Hill in doing so!This last Chapter I'll have Songs About Elvis of a more Personal Nature. And Two Final Words- I had one planned, but as the Series went on I thought of another. It was a lot of fun for me playing songs that brought back Memories, and no doubt introducing some that were unknown. For me, the best story about Elvis is when he showed up at Sun Studios he said, "I Don't Sound Like Nobody"!He was RIGHT!Mike
It's too bad I was interfered with that first Birthday week or I would have been able to fit this whole Salute To Elvis into his January Birth Month. As a matter of fact, I was thrown off today by other business. And I am aware that some of you don't LIKE Elvis! But I'll bet most of the Groups or Artists you DO LIKE are Fans Of Elvis! It's no secret that on these Shows I love the Element Of Surprise. And I am sure that at least one and probably more of these Songs Popularized By Elvis And Done By Others will be a Surprise. Some were to ME, I only discovered them looking through my Music Library, lol! After this Chapter, I will have the Grand Finale of the Salute To Elvis!Mike
I will start this Episode off with one of the most Famous Duets in History, from a 1960 TV Special after The King's two-year stint in the Army. Then a couple of more Songs About Elvis, including one that should surprise you. Finally, some Songs About The History Of Rock & Roll, and you CANNOT do them without mentioning Elvis in there! And I think it's time we laid to rest the idea that Elvis was just a lucky guy who came along and ripped off the song stylings of others! In fact, he sang Blues, Country, Pop, Gospel and more- something that was unprecedented by an Artist in the 1950's and before- and he sang Rockabilly before anything was called Rockabilly! There is simply NO ONE he could have COPIED!To close the Chapter, if you like Guitar, a song by a fellow named Bill Kirchen who will amaze you with instantly recognizable snippets from almost every Great Guitarist, and even Great Bands, you can think of!Join me for a Star Studded Presentation, and the Salute To Elvis will wrap up next week!Mike
I continue with my Salute To Elvis! After a quick start by Presley, I'll play songs Made Famous By Him Done By Others.I have a load of these, and I think I can guarantee you some surprises.Included this Chapter, the Famous, or Infamous, Gunfight At Carnegie Hall with Phil Ochs. The original vinyl album was released only in Canada, the Elvis Medley was not included on it.In fact, I didn't even know he did one!It was March 27th 1970, Folkie Protest Singer/Songwriter Phil came out at Carnegie Hall wearing a Gold Lame Suit...and well, talk about surprises, lol!Give a listen to the unusual!Mike
