Today, Vittorio (Radio FILEF) and Karina (City Limits) take us on a by-no-means-exhaustive trip through history with songs of popular resistance throughout the world. When we use the terms struggle, rebellion, peoples resistance, we are not speaking about violence for the sake of itself, but of the fundamental aims of why we struggle: peace, joy, love & freedom... and we hope that this is reflected in the songs we share today. We'd like to extend a special thanks to our guests and other 3CR community members for sharing their knowledge and perspectives on the topics covered in this episode. TRACKLIST & LINKS:‎ أنا أقاوم, 'I Take Part in a Resistance Movement' - Hassan Al-Shami; Lebanon L'Ora Del Fucile 'The Hour of the Rifle' (English Subtitled) - Pino Masi; Italy Featuring audio excerpt from Dr Tim Anderson's 7 Nov 2023 interview on 3CR's Tuesday Hometime Carabina M-1 - Carlos Mejía Godoy; Nicaragua More info on Nicaraguan history - here (Pt.1) & here (Pt. 2) ¡Se Acabó! Iggy Pop once described his initial musical ethos as chasing the sound of ‘Clang Clang Clang, Bang Bang Bang; loud and louder’.Simple, impressive percussive sounds that can be easily mastered. Doom Scroll

Doom Scroll

2025-05-25--:--

Michele Vescio presents a mix performed by Sebastian Calvo, a multidisciplinary artist whose practice sits at the intersection of music, performance, and experimental sound. They've performed at iconic venues and events across Sydney, Melbourne, and New York, and their collaborations span visual art and choreography, with ongoing projects both locally and internationally.Doom Scroll started as a test mix for Sebastian Calvo’s upcoming EP NOĶŒNTROL, made up mostly of their own tracks. The title comes from a track in the mix, inspired by Sebastian’s own habit of doom-scrolling - something they turned into a cathartic sound piece. This mix reflects a mindset shift offering a layered, introspective journey following their own recovery. For more on Sebastian's work, head to Apple Music, Spotify, or Linktree for a full list of releases, projects, and more. Flourish Australia - supports mental health recovery and disability inclusion. SAMSN (Support After Sexual and Domestic Violence) - supports male survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Doom Scroll (Radio edit) / Sebastian Calvo Pilgrimage (Original Mix) / Svarog Call me (Silent number edit) / Sebastian Calvo Quiet (Junior Vasquez mix) / Zoel Don’t (NoKontrol mix) / Sebastian Calvo Restitimelo (Give it back to me) / Sebastian Calvo Esoteric (Sebastian Calvo edit) / Svarog Donna (Sebastian Calvo extended version) / The Art of Noise Doom Scrolling (Sidebar mix) / Sebastian Calvo  Oxytocin (8.5 Hypnomix) / Sebastian Calvo  Image: Courtesy of Sebastian Calvo, used with permission.
This edition of Rotations features songs that had a degree of success, that are renowned by music collectors for being some of the saddest songs recorded. This episode is presented by Madison Moffat of Queering The Air and Trans-creator Radio. This is a selection of recordings where if you listen to them and think 'They have got to be kidding'; then you probably have cottoned on to the general idea. Novelty records, ‘outsider’ music (used particularly in the ‘60s and ‘70s), comedians having a lend, and bona fide musicians doing what it takes to get short-term attention from the media.
