I really enjoyed having a chat with Travis from Georgia on this episode, for two reasons. The first being, he hunted in the same area of South Africa where I had hunted many times with clients and also a youngster. So it was great hearing the perspective of another hunter about an area I hold closely. The second reason being, Travis took his two daughters with him on his first African safari and by the sounds of his stories and the admiration coming from him as a father, those girls had a literal blast. I hope you enjoy this episode and if you do, then take a couple seconds to leave a rating and review. Much appreciated! If you would like to reach out to Travis to ask him any questions about his trip, then you can do so right here: travisb302@yahoo.com
**NOTE** The audio is a little fuzzy at the start of the episode, give it some time as it does come right. I was using my mobile speaker on the ranch and got a little static from it. Everyone hopes and expects their dream hunting safari to run smoothly. The client expects it, the outfitter hopes for it and the PH does his best to make it happen...but things don't always go according to plan out in the African bush. For some, their dream trip turns into a nightmare and they have legitimate complaints and issues they want to raise about their safari and rightly so. However, there is a correct way to complain, and in this impromptu episode where I record while out on the ranch, I discuss the right way to complain about your hunting safari. Enjoy! My guest on today's podcast is Tai Emery, is a current bare knuckle fighter, power slap competitor and former Legends Football League player. Tai may not fit the mould of your traditional trophy hunter, but a recent trip to the Eastern Cape of South Africa opened her eyes to real benefits that hunting can bring to local communities. Tai and I had a great chat, and she shared some stories from her time in South Africa as well as the importance of educating some of her fellow fighters in just how beneficial hunting can really be. Hope you enjoy the episode, make sure to give Tai a follow on her social media platforms, she is doing a great job in getting the good word about hunting out to the masses. Enjoy!
You often hear from people that going on a hunting safari is a trip of a lifetime, and it certainly is, but what you rarely hear from people is that they got a once in a lifetime trophy! This story recaps that exact trophy, a true once in a lifetime trophy. **NOTE** I did mention in the intro of episode that there is a video of this particular hunt, well I was unaware at the time that the video has not yet been released. So, I would suggest following the link to the This Is Africa TV YouTube channel and I am sure they will release the video soon. Link below https://www.youtube.com/@ThisisAfricaTVshow
There really is no right time to hunt Africa, if you want to go you will find a way, if you do not then you will find an excuse. My guest on today's episode is Cody Schwartz from Roswell NM, and after deciding to book a hunt in South Africa at an SCI show, he enjoyed it so much he made plans to go back every year, each time bringing one of his family members. Cody shares some great stories about the animals he was targeting, as well as some valuable info for anyone considering booking their first trip. If you would like to reach out to Cody and ask him a few questions or just chat about hunting in Africa, you can do so by sending him an email below: codyschwartz45@gmail.com Enjoy!
If you are a hunting Outfitter that operates not only in South Africa, but anywhere in Africa, then you will agree with this statement. "There is always someone out their looking to take their slice of your cake" In this episode, I talk about some of my experiences with agents, reps, wanna be agents and some just down right sneaky dirty lying agents. If you want to hear more of these stories, then reach out to me or leave your request as a comment on Spotify or a rating on Apple Podcasts. Enjoy!
My guest on the latest episode is Devin from Kansas City and we had a great chat, covering all sorts of topics from how he chose his outfitter, bringing over your own rifle, the importance of not sticking to a list, trusting yourself to pull of a quick 'hail Mary' shot, plus Devin gave some fantastic advice for those planning their first trip to Africa. If you are enjoying these episodes and getting some value out of them, then do me a massive favour and take a few seconds to leave a review and rating on Apple podcasts and Spotify. Thanks! Easily one of the more frequent questions I was asked when booking hunts for clients, was "Can I bring my spouse and what will they do?" It is a fair question and while I would list off numerous non-hunting activities they could do, I knew deep down that 95% of the time the significant other would tag along on the hunts and have the time of their life. In this episode we get to dive in a little deeper to this scenario as I am joined by Stuart and Kayla from Missouri, who recently returned from a hunting trip to South Africa. Now while Kayla didn't hunt on this trip...she did admit that she wouldn't be missing out on the chance to pull the trigger on their next safari. Enjoy and please remember to rate and review this podcast.
Trevor Oertel is a man that we as hunters should be throwing our full support behind and sharing his messages far and wide. I have been following Trevor for a good few years now and I have always enjoyed reading his articles, opinion pieces and his push back against the misinformation, lies and false accusations that are published against hunters in main stream media. I had a good chat with Trevor as he shared in his insights into the research his does for his articles, the support people like him and many others need from the greater hunting community and most importantly that we as outdoorsman no longer need to roll over and take the BS that animal-rights slacktivists publish about hunting, it's time to push back. In this episode I am joined by longtime hunter Herb Atkinson as he recounts the beauty and intensity of hunting in Africa over many years. Herb shares life-changing moments: leopard and buffalo on foot, charging lions, elephant hunts, and the importance of forming a good bond with your PH. He also reflects on conservation, the people he met, and the deep rewards beyond the shot. Listen for vivid stories, practical hunting insight, and a heartfelt tribute to Africa’s landscapes, wildlife, and communities. Hope you enjoy and please remember to leave a review and rating.
This episode will simply be a reading from a post made on facebook about the tragic loss of a fellow hunter, that was tragically killed while on safari in South Africa and how the misguided mob that is the anti-hunters responded in the most sickening of ways.
Ok folks, the time has come to finally put this debate to bed. Hunting behind high fences, is it right or wrong? Does it have a place in the hunting industry? Should we feel bad about hunting high fence ranches or should we be promoting more free range properties? Well, it's about time I throw my 2 cents into the mix and I have a couple of points to make that will have you second guessing the next time someone mentions "ethics" and "high fences" in the same sentence. So...Let's Go! Hope you enjoy!

This episode delivers a wild and humorous dive into why the baboon is the African bushveld's ultimate communist. We'll explore their chaotic social structures and how their "Great Leap Forward" foraging habits devastate bird populations and crucial plant life, alongside causing millions in damage to industries like timber and agriculture. We'll also expose their cunning "victim" PR campaigns—including those well-meaning "save the baboon" initiatives—even as their bold incursions into human areas lead to property damage and dangerous attacks. Natural predators simply can't control their soaring numbers, making human intervention a critical part of restoring balance. Enjoy the episode, and remember to Rate & Review! Cheers
Cory is deep into the final phases of planning his first trip to Africa. He reached out to me with a couple questions on Africa and specifically how to judge the trophy quality of certain animals. I offered for him to jump onto the pod and we could discuss his trip in detail and that I would be happy to answer any questions he had about hunting in South Africa. Long story short.....he is that Q & A session. Hope you enjoy! Please remember to leave a rating and review of the podcast, it helps a ton and pushes the pod up the rankings. Jono
The Okavango Delta of Northern Botswana is an absolute wildlife mecca and without a doubt one of the most naturally wild places on Earth. Elephants, buffalo, lion, leopard, hippo, crocs, cheetah, kudu, lechwe, giraffe, the Okavango has it all. Dr Christiaan Winterbach has spent well over 25 years of his life researching the lions of this wonderful area, from gathering data to determining population sizes, territories, habits and more. I had a great conversation with Christiaan and learning more about these large beasts in the massive wildlife area. Enjoy! Rate & Review....Thanks
Here is a remarkable story of focusing on your dreams, being willing to roll up your sleeves, put in the hard work and let nothing get in your way until you are literally in Africa, standing over a Kudu bull you just hunted. I had the pleasure of chatting with Chance Eubanks, who got to live out his dream of hunting in Africa by doing exactly that, getting to work, saving his money and earning it. I know you will enjoy this episode! Cheers
Stephen Palos is the CEO of the Confederation of Hunting Associations of South Africa (CHASA) and the Vice-Chair of the Sustainable Use Coalition of Southern Africa (SuCo), this man is literally on the front lines defending hunters freedom to hunt and protecting the outdoorsman and the industry as a whole from unfair legislation and regulations that are designed to put an end to hunting. Stephen and I talk about both the organisations he works in, their roles, how they defend hunter's freedoms, working with other associations and the support needed from not only the local hunters but those international outdoorsman that have a keen interest in hunting in Africa. Enjoy! Please Rate & Review....Thanks!
Well, I have had enough and I cannot contain it anymore... it's time to brag about my home province! The Eastern Cape of South Africa is without a doubt a hunter's dream playground, it's a wildlife mecca. But there is more to this beautiful province than just the hunting opportunities, it is (in my opinion) the most diverse and varied province in all of South Africa. For those of you considering a hunting trip to the Eastern Cape, this episode is for you as I highlight the charms and beautiful assets of this magical part of South Africa. Enjoy! RATE & REVIEW.....Thanks!
The breeding of animals, the crossing of DNA, the choosing of certain characteristics and tinkering with specific traits, is a complex task. It's like trying to make the perfect meal, while following an extremely difficult recipe. A little too much of this, means you have to take away some of this, and not getting the right balance between all the ingredients could ruin the whole meal. In this episode, I talk about these complexities, my background and all be it very limited knowledge in the breeding of animals, as well as my concerns with how the intensive game breeding operations within South Africa, may be doing more harm to a species than good! I hope you enjoy this episode, if you did then please take a few minutes to rate and review the podcast. Cheers
