Beth King joined the military to provide for her son and became the first female in her company to fully progress to the role of crew chief. One fateful night in Afghanistan, her Chinook was hit by an RPG, throwing her from the helicopter. Her harness caught her, saving her life, but the incident left her with serious injuries that were not immediately apparent to others.   She went 18 months without treatment, only to later discover that she had suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI). As her symptoms worsened, she was eventually medically discharged from the military.   Her injury, compounded by PTSD, anxiety, and depression, led King to isolate herself. Eventually, the Wounded Warrior Project helped renew her sense of community, reigniting her love of sports and, ultimately, her zest for life. Now, it is King's turn to give back, helping other veterans find a sense of purpose as they return to civilian life.   Find out more about Wounded Warrior Project: https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/   Join the SOFREP Book Club here: https://sofrep.com/book-clubSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Today, he is the President of Global Government at Skydio, a leading U.S. drone manufacturer. Despite his vast experience flying combat jets, Valentine admits that in today’s battlefield, drones impact results in ways that new jets or missiles cannot.   As autonomous drones become more sophisticated, they now make far fewer errors compared to their human operators. However, in actual combat where lives are on the line, the humans behind the drones must face a deeper question about the desensitization that happens when a soldier uses a drone thousands of miles away, like a video game, to take another life.   Join the SOFREP Book Club here: https://sofrep.com/book-clubSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Dave Brown is an outstanding former Navy SEAL known for his small stature but immense determination. Standing at just 5'3", he was always underestimated, both by high school bullies and Navy recruiters, yet he remained undeterred and locked in on his goal to serve.   Despite being initially dismissed due to his size, Brown's persistence and resilience led him to pass the rigorous Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training, even running with two stress fractures during "Hell Week." He graduated with BUD/S Class 115 and served with Underwater Demolition Team 21 and SEAL Team 4. His deployments took him across Central and South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.   His memoir, "And Goliath," tackles the human side of being a Navy SEAL. Especially in Brown's case, where his physical limitations seemed to doom his dreams, "And Goliath" chronicles the willpower he needed to tap into his potential for success, overcome perceived limitations, and come out at the end as an inspiration to all current, former, and aspiring special operators.   Get a copy of "And Goliath": https://andgoliathbook.com/   Join the SOFREP Book Club here: https://sofrep.com/book-clubSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Would you blame the former commander of a unit for what the unit did today? Come on, man, you are being ridiculous

This Podcast/Blog has gone from Throat Punch to hugs and kisses. Too PC, Ian is the wrong host for this show. The mix is very uneven, the host's sound is hot compared to the call in guest. I have listened since week three and I have no idea what is happening over here anymore. The "Behind the curtain" feeling is gone.

Love the show! Always have. There are some good and bad things with the new show. Positives: 1. Sound quality: You can mostly hear everyone clearly and at consistent sound levels whereas before it was spotty most times. 2. Broadcast consistency: Podcasts are airing weekly now instead of occasional lulls between episodes. 3. Ian Scotto is doing a good job bringing an outsider's (i.e., civilian's) perspective. Certain terminology goes over our (i.e., civilian) heads and Ian will, at times, ask for clarity of terms. The program overall feels more professional. 4. More useful and insightful information per hour than any other podcast or news channel I've heard. 5. Excellent guests you won't get anyplace else. Negatives: 1. Absence of Quin: Quin had good questions and additional insight militarily that would bring out a bit more in the conversations. He had an energy that came through to this listener where you could tell we was loving what he was doing. 2. This is a stupid gripe
