We lost Coach last week and I wanted to re-release his story in his honor. He was one of the best of us with a great story of how he got into the business. I will miss my friend.
Coach Hennesy has won a lot at TJA. A native of Savannah GA, Coach Hennesy has spent almost all of his career in the GISA. He has been successful everywhere he has been. Coach graduated from Benedictine and started his coaching career there. He has been all over the state in his travels and serves at a very different school than most of us are familiar with. I hope you enjoy hearing his story!
Coach Cameron is a native of upstate New Jersey where he played three sports in high school and went on to play college basketball. After starting his coaching career in his home town, he moved down to GA and has been a HFC at three different schools. He has had the opportunity to work for the legend Mark Stroud and has since taken over at Calvary Day in Savannah. Coach Cameron is one of the best men in the business leading our young people! Coach Holland is a native of Franklin County that played there and went on to play college ball at Western Carolina. He started off in the youth ministry and got into coaching a little later. He started at Franklin County Middle School and has been able to move up with his kids as they have grown. He is doing a phenomenal job with his program. I hope you enjoy his story as much as I did. Coach Holland is now officially one of my all time favorites!
Coach Lamar is one of the best and brightest in the business. He has only coached at 2 places. One his alma mater Tucker HS and now as the HFC at South Gwinnett. This longevity at only 2 places speaks to his loyalty and ability to keep the main thing the main thing. Coach Lamar played his high school ball at Tucker and went on to play college ball as well. He has been part of state championship teams both as a player and a coach also serving as a head basketball coach in his career. Coach Lamar is a great example of perseverance and doing things the right way. I hope you enjoy his story!
Coach Lewis is a native of Virginia where he played high school ball. He went on to play at William and Mary, spent some time coaching at the college level before he started his true mission work of working in Christian based high schools in 4 different states. Coach has won state championships in South Carolina and Florida and is currently the HFC at Landmark Christian in Fairburn GA. I hope you enjoy his journey and faith based approach to working in our profession!
Coach Crisp is a North Georgia guy from way back. He didn't start out to be a football coach and teacher but we are glad he found his way into the profession. Coach Crisp's journey from middle school lay Coach to HFC is a great example of doing things the right way and making great relationships with the people you work for. Coach Warren is a legend. He grew up and graduated from Dade County and played college ball at UT Chatt. Coach Warren got his first HFC job at MCA where he took them to the semis in his 2nd year. After a few other stops, Coach Warren returned to Dade where he led the team to only it's 2nd 10 win season (he played on the other one). Coach Warren has now returned to the coast to take over MCA again and has them trending back in the right direction. Coach Warren has served on the GHSA executive committees and has been a driving force in shaping our game in this state. I hope you enjoy his story as much as I enjoyed getting to talk with him!
Coach Goodrum is a native of Griffin where he attended Spalding County High School. He went on to play a little at Fort Valley State University. Coach has had a wild and fantastic ride thus far in his coaching travels. He has been a high school assistant, a GA in college, and even a coordinator at the college level. I hope you enjoy hearing his story as much as I did!
Coach Poston is a Dade County alum. He had a very interesting and unique childhood that allowed him to see a lot of different parts of the world before attending high school at Dade County. He then went to college for a while before joining the workforce. He had a very non-traditional route to the HFC position for many in our profession. Coach Poston has built a pretty impressive 5 year stretch on the "other side of the mountain" in Trenton and I hope you enjoy his story as much as I enjoyed talking with him!
Coach Herring is a native of Douglas Georgia where he played for 2 late great legends. Coach Kevin Tiny Giddens and Coach Bonwell Royal at Coffee High School. Lacey was a QB in high school and went on to play QB at Fort Valley State before transferring to Shorter College where he played RB and WR. Coach Herring has coached at the private school level in Georgia and coached at several programs in the Houston Texas area before getting his first HFC opportunity at Monroe High School. Coach Herring is entering year 5 at the helm and is doing a great job of transforming young men into recruitable college prospects through pushing accountability and grades on top of his football program. Dr Fominaya is a native of Miami Florida but grew up and went to high school in Naples. After high school, Coach Fominaya was able to attend Elmhurst College and play football. Coach returned to Florida to begin his coaching career after a brief stint as a salesman. Coach Fominaya served as an assistant and HFC in Florida before making the jump to Georgia to become the HFC at Hiram. He is beginning his first year at Sprayberry this season and I can't wait to see how successful his program is! I hope you enjoy hearing Dr. Fominaya's inspirational story!
Coach Laws is a native of Daytona Beach Florida and spent the first years of his career coaching in the Tampa area. Coach played college ball at Wingate in NC before beginning his teaching and coaching career. He has been a HFC since he was 26 and has continued to pour into young people and build relationships with kids through the years. I hope you enjoy his story as much as I enjoyed talking with him! One of the best in the game for sure!
Coach Dean is a native of Snellville Ga where he played high school ball at South Gwinnett for the late legend T McFerrin and John Small. Jackson went on to play at Valdosta State and was part of their 2007 National Championship team. He's had several coaching stops including a 2 year stint at the college level before landing his first HFC job at Berrien. I hope you enjoy Coach Dean's story!
Coach Roland is a native of Daytona Florida where he was a three sport athlete at Mainland High School. He was a member of the state championship football team in the early 2000's and later won it as their HFC. He went on to play college football at Bethune-Cookman and then in the arena league. Coach Roland then got into teaching and coaching and worked his way up from the equipment room to being a HFC three times now. He is currently the HFC at Camden County and I hope you enjoy his story!
Coach Spence is a native of Gordon County. He attended Gordon Central where he played football, basketball and baseball. Coach Spence had the opportunity to go on to play baseball at Kennesaw State. Coach Spence always knew he was going to teach and coach and began his career under the legend Jimmy Dorsey at McEachern. He worked his way up from position coach to coordinator over the course of fifteen years before taking his first head coaching job at Paulding County. Coach Spence is entering his second year at the helm at East Paulding. He is one of the best men in the business and I hope you enjoy hearing his story!
Coach Vavra is a native of Marietta Georgia where he went to high school and played at Sprayberry High School. He went on to play college football at the United States Naval Academy Prep School before transferring and playing at Tennessee Tech as a linebacker. Coach Vavra coached at multiple places in the Atlanta metro before getting his first HFC job at his alma mater and has recently taken over the Etowah program. His message of establishing and maintaining positive relationships with the people you come across in this business is sure to resonate with you! I hope you enjoy Coach Vavra's story!
Coach Coe is a LEGEND. He grew up in central Florida and after spending 8 years at his Alma Mater, he went to Madison County where he won multiple state championships before arriving at Coffee. At Coffee, he did what no other coach had ever been able to do, win the trophy. Coach Coe is a man of faith, loves his kids, and develops young men at a time where developing young men is at a premium. I hope you enjoy Coach Coe's story!
Coach Richardson is a native of Sumter South Carolina where he had a stellar career as a quarterback and went on to play at Coastal Carolina. Coach began his coaching career in Georgia and chewed some dirt while working his way up the ranks and getting his first head coaching job in his home state right before COVID hit. After a re=set, Coach Richardson came back to Georgia as an assistant and has recently been named the new HFC at Luella High School. I hope you enjoy his story of hard work and perseverance!
Coach Williams is the son of a coach that grew up and played in Cherokee County. He was a two sport athlete that also played baseball in high school. After high school, Coach Williams went on to play college football at Tusculum College. Coach always knew he wanted to teach and coach and started right away and has never looked back. He is truly one of the good ones out there pouring into our young people now and I hope you enjoy Coach Trevor Williams' story!
