Over the last few years many people have become aware that there is a battle between good and evil going on. We see evil now in so many places that it’s difficult to avoid. At the same time, we need to reject the temptation to see the battle as something which is only happening outside of ourselves. The most important thing to understand is that this battle is happening inside of us, and that is where we must conquer if we are to triumph in the world.Sacred Musings is a reader-supported publication. The world seems to be full of lies at the moment. If you’re reading this, the chances are you won’t fall for many of the typical lies at the moment. But this doesn’t mean we can let our guard down. In particular, I think Christians need to beware of the “almost gospel” — something which looks almost like the gospel, but yet empties the gospel of its power and leaves us weak and irrelevant. In this podcast I explain how I came to understand there was an “almost-gospel” and how dangerous it is.This podcast is following on from my last podcast about Charlie Kirk, which you can see here if you would like:If you’re interested in my book, Confused by Grace, you can read the intro and first chapter (for free) via that link.Sacred Musings is a reader-supported publication. Christians believe that there is an adversary, Satan, who is working against them in the world. I believe that Satan has found a highly effective way of rendering Christians spiritually weak and ineffective — by focussing them on the things of this world and engaging in the fight politically. In this podcast we look at how Satan works, what that means for the church, and think about Charlie Kirk in the light of that. We finish by thinking about the way God wants us to live and how we can do that in these times.Sacred Musings is a reader-supported publication. I have recently discovered the work of Dr Tom Wadsworth, who argues that the modern church has fundamentally misunderstood the way that the early church thought about meeting together. Church meetings were not for ‘worship’ but edification. In this podcast we explore just how significant it is to see church in this way and what it means for the way we should think about church going forward. Why is it that almost everything wrong with the world seems to lead back to harming children? From abortion to lockdown to paedophile rings, children seem to be in the firing line for all the evil in the world. Why should that be the case? In this bumper edition of the podcast, we look at this issue as well as: who’s really in charge — who has real responsibility for the country, who should be held accountable? And I share a thought I had while watching Tucker Carlson’s interview with Jeremiah Johnston about the Shroud of Turin. We finish with Rudyard Kipling’s poem “The Gods of Copybook Headings”.Sacred Musings is a reader-supported publication. Over the summer, I usually take some time to think through what I am doing and compare it to what I believe God wants me to do. In this podcast I look back over the last few years of Sacred Musings and pose the question of what things might look like in the future. I don’t want to be “just another commentator” from a Christian angle, but to offer something genuinely useful.Sacred Musings is a reader-supported publication. This podcast reflects on how important it is to allow women to be women. We look at three things in particular: (1) Wimbledon, and what that says about the kind of role models that young girls and women are growing up with; (2) the picture of Karoline Leavitt working in the White House with her son; (3) Candace Owen’s debate with feminists about “objectification”. We finish off by thinking about how we can make a difference in our own lives.50s Housewife Meets Modern Woman - video with JP Sears and Brett CooperSacred Musings is a reader-supported publication. In this podcast we are exploring the concept of ‘Freedom Cells’, something discovered via Derrick Broze’s documentary series “The Pyramid of Power”. I think Freedom Cells may be the answer we’ve been looking for — or at least, a big part of it. I also think that Freedom Cells have a large degree of overlap with another institution — the Church. However, we may need to radically rethink what we see as church. We finish by thinking about how we need courage to stand up against tyranny even in the face of persecution.Sacred Musings is a reader-supported publication. One of the things many of us have become aware of over the last few years is how the mainstream media is used to control and manipulate us with propaganda. But, if everything we see is a PsyOp, then is there any way of getting to the truth? How do we know who is trustworthy? In this podcast we look at some lessons from the Bible about who we can trust, and then examine Nigel Farage, Laurence Fox and Calvin Robinson in the light of them. The article I refer to by Miri AF is here.Sacred Musings is a reader-supported publication. I’ve spoken a lot about the church on Substack lately — a few weeks ago I spoke about how it was important to separate ourselves from churches which are not true churches. In this podcast, I wanted to look practically about how we can tell the difference between a true church and a fake one. In particular we look at (1) submitting to the Scriptures; (2) taking holiness seriously; (3) taking discipleship seriously — especially for children and new Christians. Separation can be painful but I believe it is the most loving option.I quote from J.C. Ryle’s piece “Bible Reading”, which can be found online here.Sacred Musings is a reader-supported publication. As I mentioned last week, we have been told lately of a ‘quiet revival’ — a growth in the number of people regularly attending church, especially amongst younger people. However, as I said then, I am not sure that the church really knows what a revival would be like. In particular, I am concerned that the church has not learned its lessons with respect to secularism.Sacred Musings is a reader-supported publication. Over the last couple of weeks, God has put on my mind the importance of separation: that is, the need to be separate from those who are not serious about putting Christ first in everything. In this podcast I explain how I’ve come to that conclusion, examine what Jesus taught from Matthew 10, and then think about one or two ways we might put that into practice.Sacred Musings is a reader-supported publication. Many people, especially among the right-wing commentariat, talk about how we need a return to “Christianity”. In this podcast, I explore what that really means, using the oft-quoted verses from 2 Chronicles 7:13-14 about humbling ourselves and turning back to the Lord:‘When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.’I mentiond James Corbett’s piece about algocracy.Sacred Musings is a reader-supported publication. Our society hates women. I believe this is one of the most fundamental issues which is killing society at the moment. The problem is also wider than certain political classes as well — the problem extends to those who would see themselves as defenders of traditional Britain. Many people, including myself up until recently, would have summarised the Reformation as being about the doctrine of justification by faith alone. This was the cornerstone of the Reformation. However, I believe there is something even more fundamental at play which often gets missed: it’s about the power of one man with his Bible to stand up against the might of an institution. I believe we need to recover this same spirit once again to regain the church from the institutions which claim to be “church”.Sacred Musings is a reader-supported publication. I don’t know about you, but I feel that I need some encouragement at the start of 2025! In my previous podcast I talked about how the primary mission of the church is to preach the gospel. Some people say that the church should ‘just preach the gospel’. I used to agree — then covid happened, and I saw those people giving into everything that the state demanded of us. This called my beliefs into question! How do we ‘just’ preach the gospel, while at the same time standing up against everything that is going wrong politically in the world at the moment? What I’ve come to understand is that I (and many others) had gone wrong in understanding what the gospel is.Sacred Musings is a reader-supported publication.
