Suicides have become the second-leading cause of death among teenagers in the United States, surpassing homicide deaths, which dropped to third on the list .  The teenage suicide rate increased from 8 deaths per 100,000 in 1999 to 8.7 deaths per 100,000 in 2014, and unfortunately, that number continues to increase. On June 20, 2019, Nikolai Miller, described as "a shining light in a world that has gotten darker." died by suicide His grieving mother, Kris Miller, started On A Dragonfly’s Wings as way to express her grief.  It later became a leading source of education about mental health and suicide prevention. Sean talks with Kris about her journey, how she copes with the loss of a child, and what she is doing to help others understand how critical mental health is and how many people need our love and support. I have been a guest speaker at several suicide prevention trainings talking about Nikolai, his life, his struggles and ultimately, his death. As a member of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Advocacy Committee of Michigan, I continue to fight to bring new legislation to the table to support mental illness and suicide prevention. Most recently, I partnered with former Representative Andrea Schroeder on HB 5482, Save Our Students Bill. This Bill was signed into law by Governor Whitmer on October 15, 2020, and requires all public school districts that produce a student ID, to print a suicide hotline number on the back of the card. Learn more about Kris and her amazing organization. http://onadragonflyswings.com/about-us/

Just like California, Michigan is becoming famous for, among other things,  its bad roads. In terms of road funding, Michigan has ranked in the bottom nine states in the nation since at least 1964.  Could that be at least PART of the problem?  Why do other states have such great roads and Michigan doesn't?   How has the COVID-19 pandemic made roads and highways even more important than ever?   Senior Communications Manager  for the Oakland County Road Commission, Craig Bryson, joins Sean Sparkman to answer these and other questions that Michigan taxpayers have been asking for a long time. And, folks in other states might want to pay attention as well.  Because chances are, your roads are crummy for the same reasons!
Sean interviews life coach and author of the new Amazon self-help book, "Triggered."
An Electronic Systems Integration Technician (ESIT) installs, upgrades, and services a wide variety of residential and commercial electronic systems including: Audio/Video Systems, Telecom, Computers, Cable Systems, Lighting, Broadband Systems, Automation Controls, Security and Green Technologies etc. An ESIT’s role is both high tech and hands on, and is ideal for someone who is tech savvy and likes to work with his or her hands.  Sean's guest, veteran ESIT Derrick Davis realized what a fantastic lifestyle he has experienced because of his work. Davis realized that many young people don't know how vital ESITs are to the broadband, cable, telecom, and entertainment industries.  He knew that as ESITs have begun to retire, there aren't enough trained technicians to replace them.  Derrick also knew that young people could profit both financially and socially from acquiring the technical skills needed to become an ESIT. To help give Detroit's youth affordable, comprehensive training, Davis founded the "AV Tech Institute." AVTI training courses feature classroom and lab work, preparing students seeking a successful career as qualified residential and commercial electronic systems integrators.   AV Technology Institute is a Ready4work Career Training Center whose mission is to empower, train, and encourage passionate minds to grow through educational opportunities that support and encourage personal growth. AVTI is dedicated to providing students with the state-of-the-art resources they need to compete in the fast-paced and growing residential and commercial systems integration industry. AVTI’s classroom and hands-on laboratory facilities are located within the Durfee Innovation Society 2470 Collingwood, St. Suites 218-220, Detroit, MI 48206 https://avtechinstitute.com/
