Hello and welcome to the first Solving History of 2023! In this episode Emily looks at the infamous Mystery House in San Jose, California. An architectural wonder and historic landmark, it was once the personal residence of Sarah Winchester, the widow of William Wirt Winchester and heiress to a large portion of the Winchester Repeating Arms fortune. Today the house boasts having drawn over 12 million guests to visit the house since its doors opened in June of 1923, why? Well, for 38 years, Sarah was said to have had construction going 24 hours a day at her home - no ordinary construction job, though; the house is a labyrinth of rooms that at one point reached seven stories and is filled with weird things like stairs and doors that go nowhere all in order to keep ghosts at bay… or was it?
