Description

My name is Samuel Shin. I was a mental health clinician (therapist) for 7 years before becoming a teacher, coach & mentor to spread a message of healing & transformation for the world. My personal journey has spanned diving into human sexuality, doing lots of therapy (as a client & therapist), 10+ years of meditation, and so much more. With this podcast, I hope to add color & nuance to a lot of the conversations we hear about these days, and have deep conversations with my friends, old & new, to help everyone grow, learn & win.

In this episode, I dive into the challenges of talk therapy and why so many have their doubts about it. I also share my thoughts on the reality of therapy, and how/why it does work in hopes that you can understand yourself, the process and make a more informed decision about what you might need (or not) on your healing journey.
In this episode, I interview Jason, a former client, on the work we did to transform his life and situation in just a few sessions. Trigger Warning: Very real & intense experiences of racial trauma and suicidality This is part of a series I recorded 2.5 years ago when I was directly active in social justice & racial equity. Though this episode does not fully reflect my current work, it is still near and dear to my heart. Navigating racial & bicultural identity is challenging in Western society. Most therapists are not even adequately educated or trained on these issues to be able to support individuals struggling with racism (as my guest talked about). There is no agenda or intention in sharing this episode except to increase awareness around the issues that Asians, as well as all other races face, growing up in the USA. A useful model that I have recently learned about in navigating racial & bicultural identities comes from Sue & Sue. Derald Wing Sue is a pioneer at the intersection of mental health, racism and identity who is worth checking out. If you enjoyed this episode, be sure to follow me on Instagram @samuelshincoaching. Leave a review wherever you heard this episode as it helps this podcast grow. Thanks so much! Samuel
Recorded 2.5 years ago when I first began my coaching career (with my guest agreeing to/knowing it being public), this episode is a "live" (recorded), unfiltered coaching session by me, with a real guest who agreed to share & open up vulnerably about her life, for you as the listener to connect, relate and experience your own insights, realizations and shifts. The journey of finding who you are can be difficult, and the commitment to living that discovery can be even harder! I hope this conversation can support you on your path wherever you are. Leave a review if you can on whatever platform you are listening from. It will be good feedback for me! Also, share it with your friends & family!! If you want to get in touch with me or follow me on social media, my Instagram handle is @samuelshincoaching. That's the best place to reach me!
