Every believer's life will bear witness to Christ, one way or another. John will bear witness with his long life and Peter will bear witness with his death. To both, Jesus says, "You follow me."
Because Jesus has risen from the dead and has caused you to be born again, He says to you, "You follow me," whether in life or in death.
John wants us to know that Jesus was buried like a king in a garden like Adam. Jesus was planted like a seed in a garden and his body will grow like the firstfruits of the kingdom of God.
Because Jesus was planted a king, a kingdom will grow from it.
Because Jesus was buried, we were buried with him.
The point here is entirely about Jesus. Jesus did all the dying so Jesus did all the saving. Jesus did this all alone. You did not climb up on the cross to help and Jesus left nothing undone for his people.
Jesus is the king who would lead his people by accomplishing the Covenant stipulations so that we could gain the Covenant promises, just as it is written.
The God who gave the Law to Moses is now brought before the lawyers. He who kept the Law perfectly is judged by the Law.
Because Jesus is the righteous judge who saves us, we have been judged and found righteous in Christ.
We are 10 years into a 100-year mission and praying that God will bring true revival to our church, our homes and our county.
What is our mission? We are raising up generations of Christian adults who can carry a load. This is simply a local version of the Great Commission. We are making disciples by baptizing (corporate worship), teaching (household discipleship), and teaching to obey, (vocational dominion as outreach).
At Christmas, rejoice in the good news that the Son of God was born to make us sons.
The world was created for Glory and joy but that was broken when Adam fell bringing the disintegration of all creation. God intended that the obedience of our first parents would lead to the glory of God filling the earth. The second Adam does with the first Adam could not and restores what the first Adam lost. Actually, he gives us something even better. The world is now clearly for the glory of God. This is Christmas.
In Advent, we are reminded of what the world is for. We are re-minded, re-oriented and re-purposed. The world is for the glory of God, you are for the glory of God and so, at Christmas, God gave that glory to you when He gave you His Son. Because Jesus is the glory of God, he is the source of eternal joy to you, to me and the world. He has come to make that joyful blessing known far as the curse is found.
He is our comfort in sorrow and our joy in tribulation. You can have comfort in your sorrow because you have the Word and Spirit and joy in your tribulation because he has opened a way to the Father in prayer.
Your joy will be found in prayer both in your tribulations from the world and in overcoming the world.
Those cut off branches quickly become clubs in the hands of the devil. The world that hates Jesus will hate the children of Jesus who have the message of Jesus and bear the fruit of Jesus. Because the world hates Jesus, we must testify to the world about Jesus.
Jesus uses a metaphor to explain to his disciples that because he will dwell with them forever, they will bear good fruit that abides. Because Jesus is the true vine of the new covenant, bear New Covenant fruit.
