#SaturdayMorningHustle Flashback The Accidental Entrepreneur from September 12th, 2020. If I can do it, you can do it. Did you know I have owned or operated my own business (of some sort) for 35+ years now? I didn't even know the word Entrepreneur when I started. Now, I have embraced the role of Entrepreneur, helping others do the same. It's not for everyone, but everyone can benefit from adding an entrepreneurial mindset.
There's a long line of business ventures I have been involved in since I started my first when I was just 15 years old. Listen today to hear the whole story, from the music business to marketing to business development and now economic development and higher education.
Listen, then make a comment with your story. Let's talk about it! The Saturday MorningHustle podcast is for anyone willing to come in early, stay late or hustle on the weekend to be successful. http://bit.ly/ListenToSMH
Can't Judge An Entrepreneur By The Cover 11/17/18. Something struck me recently about the changing ideas of what makes one an entrepreneur, hustler, influencer, business leader, etc.... There is no "set" type of person. Old, young, male, female, suit-and-tie or jeans and a t-shirt types. All types of people are pursuing their careers or other passions while trying to find ways to make it all work. That's the common bond - making your "thing" work because that's what you want to do with your life.
Career, Side-Hustle or Hobby - Levels of Entrepreneurship 1/12/19. I run through the levels of entrepreneurship: Side Hustle, Project Based, Outside Interest, Second Career and Hobby. Each has its own set of rules, expectations, and return on investment (or lack thereof). If your full-time/part-time J-O-B isn't enough, there are a few options. There are many options for "being your own boss" with levels of risk, freedom, and fringe benefits. Let's talk about it.
Create success, stay humble, help others! A lot is happening in the world right now. A lot of people need a helping hand. Natural disasters, inflation and crime are affecting a lot of people today. Use your business success to be of service to others. Do good things and see positive results. Think globally, act locally. Flashback episode with intro and bonus content you might have missed on 9/2/17.

What business lessons can you learn from the biggest comeback in the biggest college football rivalry game? A lot! Let's talk about it.
Adjustments to setbacks, staying true to the brand identity, consistency, patience, learning lessons, maximizing strengths while avoiding weaknesses, relying on your team culture, managing change, seizing opportunity and taking a risk by pivoting.... sounds like running a business, right? That is true, but it also describes the 2021 OU Sooners vs Texas Longhorns football game in Dallas, TX. Let's discuss the parallels between business and football before the 2024 Red River Rilverly kick-off later this afternoon. Boomer Sooner! Beat Texas!!

THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PIECES OF ADVICE: “People Will Steal Your Ideas. Do It Anyways!” Episode 395 is a "Best Of Saturday Morning Hustle" flashback from 7/28/18 #ICYMI.
That's right, not everyone on the planet is ethical (or honest). Plenty of people you have never met (or might be very close to you) are willing to take other people's ideas and pass them off as their own. I'm not condoning it, but I'm just telling you it can/will happen. You still need to innovate! Come up with new ideas, approaches, tactics and ways of doing things.
Do not let the potential theft of your next great idea slow or stop you. Put yourself out there and see who does it better. Focus on your audience and your success. Anyone looking for a shortcut will ultimately fail. Make them work hard to keep up with you. Stealing ideas and claiming credit is not sustainable.

A three-part flashback about adversity and conflict resolution. Parts one and two are specific to the trials and tribulations of developing OKCs first creative business community collaboration space, professional offices, co-working and art gallery 1219 Creative. Part three focuses on the value of utilizing conflict resolution, not avoiding it. This conversation covers internal and external conflicts and why it's better to take on problems sooner rather than later. Together, these episodes provide insights and execution for handling whatever comes your way in business or life. Let's talk about it!
Pt1: Dealing with adversity in business. This podcast is all about staying positive, but today we need to talk about adversity. When life throws you a curve ball or roadblock at you, don't take it personally. Make a negative a positive. Published: October 14, 2017
Pt2: Making lemonade from life's lemons. Opportunity comes from making a negative a positive and creating opportunity out of adversity. Take a disadvantage and make it your advantage. Lemonade from lemons. Published: October 28, 2017
Pt3: Conflict happens in business. Conflict is a part of business. If you can't handle conflict, maybe you shouldn't be a boss, business owner or entrepreneur. Toughen up buttercup. Published: October 21, 2017

Two flashback episodes combine advice on embracing adversity and change as an opportunity to grow and on implementing this growth for the most potentially successful outcomes.
Adversity happens, how will you react? Adversity hits everyone. There will always be bumps in the road. You only have control over how prepared you are and how well you react to negative situations. Don’t let setbacks get you down. Use that to motivate even more. Don’t get mad or sad; get to work.
When life gives you lemons... #Lemonade #WorkSmart #WorkHard #Hustle #Grind #MaxEffort
The simple truth is there is no simple, singular path to success - big or small. Most of the time, something (or everything) fails to work out as planned. BUT, that's not an excuse to skip the plan and jump in without a strategy. That's even worse. The key to success is making a plan, developed via a strategic process with goals, objectives, tactics, tools, assets and measurements that can adapt as needed because you will need to make changes along the way. The better prepared you are to change with circumstances, the more likely you will achieve your ultimate success.

People like to know what to expect from a business + be pleasantly surprised at the same time. The key to success is balancing the two.
• Branding and Marketing should create expectations you must then meet (execution on delivery).
• Product/Service (value offer) needs differentiation - an alternative to what's already available in the market.
• Provide something exciting and deliver with consistency.

Flashback episode (originally posted exactly 7 years ago 9/9/17). I started my first business at age 15, but I didn't understand what I was doing. 30 (now 37) years later, I've learned a lot along the way. Find an opportunity to fill a need with something you have a talent for.
The business lesson I learned from “I started a business at 15 when I got kicked out of a rock-n-roll band” is to identify a need others have that they're willing & capable of paying for that matches up with skills, experience or talent you have = business opportunity.

Two Part #SaturdayMorningHustle Flashback Episode from August of 2019 about how to work as hard as possible while avoiding burnout. Listen again, or for the first time for tips, tricks and techniques for hustling without hurting yourself.
Hustle, Grind, Have Fun - How Is That Possible? Avoiding Burnout 8/10/19. Yes, the #SaturdayMorningHustle is all about that #RiseAndGrind but burnout is a real thing, even for the most dedicated hustlers. Everyone eventually hits a wall, but it's different for each individual. So how can you stay at maximum efficiency to avoid crashing into the wall? Find ways to have a little fun.
You make a plan to work hard, so also make a plan to avoid burnout. Take small breaks, find fun things to do while waiting for files to download, check social media only during coffee breaks or stop and call someone: an actual old-fashioned phone call to your BFF or parents or significant other just to remind you why you work so hard. #WorkSmart and #WorkHard for success. A bit of gamification or pauses in your overall hustle goes a long way. What do you think? How do you keep from burning out or losing effectiveness? Let's talk about it.
All Work and No Play Makes Jack (or Jill) a dull boy (or girl) 8/31/19. You've heard this before, right? With the start of College Football soon, this is my reminder to enjoy what all your hard work brings to your life. What's the point of all that hustle and grind if you can't really take time away from your pursuits to do things that make you happy? After all, a happy hustler is a productive hustler. Right?

This flashback episode features 3 back-to-back-to-back episodes focused on the value, impact and application of balance on your professional and personal pursuits. The #SaturdayMorningHustle key to success is..... BALANCE!
Highs vs. Lows
Hustle vs. Rest
Push vs. Patience
Win at all cost vs. Team player
Big picture planning vs. Immediate actions
So how does this idea apply to your life, career or entrepreneurial pursuits? I have some advice for you. Check out the podcast to hear all about it. 12/7/19
A different take on balancing opposite concepts on an all-new #SaturdayMorningHustle podcast. Not just work/life balance or deciding between self-serving or team attitude (last week's episode) but also balancing promotion/value, promise/deliver and give/ask for concepts for entrepreneurs, business owners, artists, musicians, influencers and self-brands. Let's talk about why balance in approach, attitude and planning is crucial to success. You have to give and take, but how much and when? Let's discuss. 12/14/19
A true test of an entrepreneur is how he/she balances risk and reward. Too aggressive and you can go bankrupt quickly. Too passive, and nothing ever happens for you. Let's talk about how to balance risk and reward. How do you bring balance to your decision-making process so you can capitalize on opportunities without too much unnecessary risk? I have some ideas for you. 12/21/19

Questionable ethics (theirs, not mine)
Nervous about success
Parking lot mistaken identity road rage
You make it look easy, we don't need you
Success cost too much money
Didn't want to spend $ to make $$$$
Leave a bad boss or organization
Too honest for the boss
Don't be a Debby Downer or Yes Man
My 3-strike rule
Price is too low, must not be good

Maximum Effort: Just Like Deadpool! That's right, I'm inspired by Deadpool (obvious timing for a repost from 4/18/20). The foul-mouthed, R-rated and most likely insane superhero (portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in the Marvel films) lives his best life (sarcastically) via the mantra of "Maximum Effort" which is actually a really good idea.
Maximum effort will allow you to go back to develop customer loyalty, lessons learned from setbacks and never quit. If you want it, you gotta #EarnIt with your #Hustle and #Grind #EvenOnTheWeekend.
BONUS FLASHBACK EP: Hustle Will Set You Free from 1/18/2020. Yes, it's that simple. Well, sort of. Give me 8 minutes to explain. (Sorry about the occasional windshield wiper noise). Recorded on the drive to the office.
The work you do today, creates the opportunities of tomorrow. With that in mind, how much time and effort are you willing to pour into today? The one thing you can control 100% of is your effort. So let's hustle!
Hustle, effort and attitude all work together to create potential for success. Stick with it! It's Saturday. I'm in the office. This is the #SaturdayMorningHustle podcast. Listen while your competition is still sleeping. https://bit.ly/ListenToSMH
The very first special guest interview on the #SaturdayMorningHustle was my friend Hoang Lam, host of the Defining Moments Podcast, Founder of Storm Check and CEO of CMM Financial, originally posted 5/20/23.
Hoang created the Defining Moments Podcast because he believes in the power of positive people with unique stories. By sharing them, he hopes to inspire a more positive world and to bring people together. Hoang and his wife Margy Lam started the Defining Moments Podcast as a way to challenge themselves as a team and push each of them out of their comfort zones.
We talk about hustle, patriotism and the power of doing big things even if it's scary.

A little nostalgia today as I explain lessons learned from seemingly unconnected occurrences from 1985 to 2000 including playing in garage Bands, 90's warehouse raves, music video fails, a chance meeting with Nine Inch Nails and creative business hustle before the internet, smartphones, social media, etc. It all worked out (because we didn't die) long before I knew how to utilize these experiences as an entrepreneur. Let's talk about it. Originally post 6/4/22.

I have been talking about the proper way to build audiences and brands on the Saturday Morning Hustle for a long time. Want to be an entrepreneur or run a successful business? Avoid Social Media "experts" using inspirational quotes + stock photos of exotic cars and vacations. Instead, pay attention to people willing to share practical advice on how to build a business on a day-to-day basis.
Don't let them sell you a "system" or "one weird trick" to success. Watch people who #Hustle #Grind and share #Advice along the way. Other people's success doesn't stop you from having success. Good luck to everyone willing to work hard for your dreams.
Once you make some $$, don't blow it on superficial stuff. Build your brand THE RIGHT WAY! Originally posted 7/4/20. Happy 4th of July. Celebrate freedom, but please be careful. See you next week!

Success is a series of hurdles. Some are easy, some are harder, some seem impossible. That's the grind; this is where hustle and drive are needed. If it's worth doing, it will be hard. But everyone on TV, social media and the internet only show you the cars, vacations and bling that comes from their (claimed) success.
The grind isn't pretty, and no one wants to admit they struggled, failed, got discouraged, and maybe even quit (but then returned). That is the reality of anyone who has achieved a level of success that you are sitting at home hoping to emulate. True story! Do NOT be discouraged when your success journey has highs and lows.
It's all part of the process. Get up early, stay up late, work on the weekend and do what you need to do for your success. Do not focus on how easy it was for someone else because it wasn't as easy as they say. Best of luck! Recorded 6/23/2018.
