my oldest is 12 and he didn't sleep through the night consistently until he was about 5 or 6 because he suffered from night terrors. I started a routine with him the summer after he finished Kindergarten where I would "pull" the bad dreams and thoughts out of his head, smash them, and then "pull" good thoughts and dreams from my head to put into his. He stopped having nightmares. I didn't have my second child until my oldest was 10, and being 30 and more educated on the importance of routines definitely helped me get my youngest to be a great sleeper (most of the time).
