On this edition, we celebrate opening day of the Major League baseball season with Varsity baseball middle infielder and senior captain, Xander Canfield, who is preparing to head to Cazenovia college in the fall. The Patriots baseball team takes on Bethlehem Monday at Central Park 4:15, we'll be there and hope to see you there too. Calling all youth soccer players, coming up in May students in grades 2 through 6 can participate in a soccer clinic led by our boys and girls varsity team. The clinic will take place on Wednesdays and Fridays at the High School turf at 4:30, beginning may 25th. Visit the district website or social media for details on signing up. On this edition, a recap of last weekend's Schenectady Invitational Wrestling Tournament with varsity coach, Chad Languish. Plus, last week's team feature was on our Girls Varsity Bowling team, who currently have a 10 and 1 league record was highlighted in the pages of the Schenectady Gazette this week. The story by Mike McAdam highlights the team camaraderie that the Patriots bowling team has, their hopes of defending the section 2 title, and the shared experience of losing their coach, long-time Schenectady High physical education teacher Karen Daffner, in the middle of last season. On this edition it's all about highlighting our coaches. Earlier this week, Schenectady athletics announced that High School phys ed teacher, Joseph Conlan would be appointed head coach of the Varsity softball team. Conlan grew up in Western New York and graduated from SUNY Brockport before teaching and coaching in South Carolina to begin his career. Now in his fifth year as a Patriot, Coach Conlan looks forward to growing and  sustaining a competitive softball team for years to come. Earlier this winter we highlighted our Varsity swimming captains to get their take on the growth of the program and the opportunities to participate on the swim team from Middle School through high school. Today we'll meet the newest coach of our modified colonie-schenectady swim team, Brian Precor. Coach Precor is a recent graduate of Mohanasen, where he set and broke many of his own school records in diving.  And in other coaching news, Coach Andrew Schiavo was named the new head coach of varsity baseball. Coach Schiavo is a Schenectady graduate who was a part of the 1988 Section 2 championship team. Aside from his career as a PE teacher at the high school, Coach Schiavo has experience coaching football, track and field, wrestling, ice hockey, and bowling for the district. It's 2022 and winter sports are in full swing and Patriot Pride is spreading throughout Schenectady. Just before winter break, that school pride was on display at the student run and organized faculty vs students basketball game. The game was hyped up for weeks and the SHS halls were buzzing with excitement. The news media and Albany patroons were on hand to help with the event and the SHS dance department and the Patriot cheerleaders provided pre-game and halftime entertainment. But the one question on everybody's mind was "Who will win?" We caught up with Staff, students, administrators, principals, and even Spectrum news to get their predictions on the outcome. Students, you can get a free patriot pride t-shirt by being one of the first 20 students through the door at home basketball games. If you already have a Patriot pride shirt, wear it and you'll get in for free. We want to see see a see of red in the student section for every game! As we head into the holiday break we reflect on the Patriot family and welcome our first alumni guest.  The annual Coaches vs Cancer Bracket Buster is taking place at Hudson Valley Community College all day on Saturday. Our boys varsity team tips off against Albany at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $8 and benefits the American Cancer Society. The Faculty VS Student basketball game is Wednesday, Dec. 22, during block 4, tickets are available via google form and space is limited to 500 students. Welcome to season 1 episode 4, The Girls Varsity basketball team's home opener is this Friday against Saratoga at 6 p.m. at the Pat Riley Sports Center and we caught up with senior captain Janessa Jones to get her take on what to look forward as we look towards tipoff.   Then we make a splash with 3 senior captains from the boys varsity swimming and diving team on the heels of their season opening win against CBA-Troy on Tuesday. Shoutout to the Patriots indoor track 800 meter relay team that won both the Northshore Invitational and the Ithaca Bomber Invitational. Winter sports seasons have begun and we'll be talking to Girl's Varsity basketball player Marina Tchako about being able to play in front of fans this year after competing in closed gyms last year. Then we'll hit the mats with two varsity wrestlers, E-Sonne Ponzo and Ayman Alsiddig to talk about their personal goals and what to look for this upcoming season. Sports seasons kicked off with league play this week for varsity and JV Boys and girls bowling, Varsity and JV boys and girls basketball, and cheerleading. Next week we are looking forward to the season kicking off for modified sports and Varsity Boy's swimming and diving. Coming up this Saturday there is action at the Pat Riley Sports center all day.
