With the Coronation of King Charles III just around the corner, we’re caught up in the story of an even better Coronation with the unfolding of Easter. Jesus has been dressed as a mock-King before his crucifixion, but now, at the point of his resurrection, the truth of his Kingship is on display. Join us this Easter Sunday as we take a look at Luke 24 in "Long Live the King" the final sermon in our Easter series on Luke's Gospel.
Abuse of Jesus is nothing new. The crowds around him laughed, and said “If he’s the anointed King he thinks he is, why doesn’t God save him?” True - it’s hard to discern a real King in the midst of such apparent humiliation. Only one man could see it clearly - the criminal on the cross right beside him. The reality is, this is a Kingdom of forgiveness, not payback; and we’re called to join it. Join us this Good Friday as we take a look at Luke 23:26-56 in "God Save the King" the fourth sermon in our Easter series on Luke's Gospel!
The people, the powers, and the law discard Jesus and condemn him to death. They dispense with the gift of life. But Jesus is actually delivering himself over to death for the sake of humankind, trusting that Father will restore him. Jesus Christ, the gift of life, is discarded and gives us a glimpse of restoration. Join us and our guest Minister Rev Dr Arthur Keefer as we take a look at Luke 23:1-25 in "Condemning the King" the third sermon in our Easter series in Luke's Gospel.
What do you value? Most of us, to be honest, just like to fit in with the crowd and be comfortable. When it turns out that following Jesus has a cost involved, both Judas and Peter choose to opt out rather than remain loyal. How is it with you? Join us as we take a look at select passages from Luke 22 in "The King Betrayed, the King Denied" the second sermon in our Easter series in Luke's Gospel.
As we approach the Easter Season, we’ll be following the steps of Jesus as he comes to Jerusalem, first to a rapturous welcome, but then to rejection, betrayal and death. Ultimately, it’s going to be a strangely converse Coronation… one that calls for loyalty to a different kind of King. Join us as we take a look at Luke 19:28-40 in "Welcoming the King" the first sermon in our Easter series in Luke's Gospel.
Prayers, Patience and Perseverance in James 5:7-20 When you’re waiting for the drought to break it’s hard to be cheerful. But as James concludes his letter, that’s exactly what he calls us to be, as we wait for final justice at the coming of the Lord. Join us as we take a look at James 5:7-20 in "Waiting For Rain".
If God was an American, would he vote Republican, or Democrat? Is he on the side of business, or the worker? The answer might surprise you, as James gives us a God’s-eye view of the arrogant entrepreneur and the oppressed labourer. There are some encouragements and warnings for all of us. Join us as we take a look at Leviticus 19:9-18 and James 4:13-5:6 in "Blue-Collar God".
Paul opens his letter to the Philippians with thanksgiving – and he’s thankful for a very specific thing. He doesn’t see the Christians in Philippi as his customers or clients; they’re not an audience at a performance. Instead, they have shown themselves to be his partners in the gospel. In other words, they join him in the risk and the cost of proclaiming the name of Jesus Christ, the founder and foundation of our faith. This Foundation Day, you’ll be invited to consider the part you can play in that same partnership today. Join us as we take a look at Philippians 1:1-14 in "Partners in the Gospel".
It’s odd that Christians are so often criticised for being judgmental when we’re so clearly told not to be. Curiously, though, while the idea of God’s judgement is out of fashion, it’s trusting in his final justice that frees us from the need to constantly judge one another. Join us as we take a look at James 4:1-12 in "A Matter of Judgement".
According to James, the human tongue simply can’t be tamed – much like a cat. It causes all sorts of problems, fights, and quarrels; it lights uncontrollable bush-fires with its venom-filled lash. But what’s the real problem? Is it our tongues, or what lies deeper in our being? Join us as we take a look at a selection of passages from Proverbs 15 and James 3:1-18 in "Taming the Tongue".
Do you think faith is a private, invisible thing, that’s all about believing the right stuff? Think again, says James! A living faith will change the way you think, and also change the way you act - and that should be very visible to everyone! Join us this Sunday as we take a look at Isaiah 58:1-11 and James 2:14-26 in "Living Faith".
It’s easy to be fooled by the ‘appearance’ of glory – we’re impressed by sleek cars, the latest tech, fine fashion, and expensive jewellery. But when our loyalty is unflinchingly focused on Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, things should change – especially when it comes to the way we evaluate the true worth of the people we mix with. Join us as we take a look at Leviticus 19:15–18 and James 1:9-11, 2:1-13 in "Fools' Gold".
Are you ‘religious’? Your reaction to that question will vary according to your definition of the term. For James, claims of ‘religion’ that don’t affect the way we live and our passion to care for the poor and struggling are worthless. Join us as we take a look at Deuteronomy 24:17-22 and James 1:19-27 in "See, Hear, Do".
As we enter a new year we’re taking a look at the letter of James, brother of Jesus and leader of the Jerusalem Church. It’s a letter full of practical advice about living lives of loyal allegiance to Jesus – and step one is, stay loyal, even when things are tough.
The story of the Kings of Israel ends with a disaster. As Moses warned, unfaithfulness to God would lead to exile from the promised land. That’s exactly what happens. And you’ll never guess what happens next…
God chose and called Abraham to be the father of a nation that was different. Moses reminded them of that as he led them into the promised land. Now as the story unfolds, we’ll see if they succeed… and ask the question, as the 21st Century people of God, are we doing any better at “living different,” as serve a different King.
As the Israelites are led from captivity in Egypt and prepare to enter the promised land, God gives them his law, and a warning. But even in the worst case scenario, there will still be a way to ‘come home.’
In our first episode, we learn the grand story of the Bible opens with an "overture" that summarises later themes - everything is good in God's garden until man and woman decide to make a grab for autonomy. But there's a promise for better things ahead...
Everybody wants our loyalty these days, from brands and businesses to nations and social movements. But what happens to those loyalties when God is King? The kingdom of God is a very different kind of kingdom.Join us As we take yet another short break from our Hebrews series! This week, we'll take a look at Psalm 99, Mark 4:26-29, Matthew 6:25, 33 through a sermon titled "A Different Kind of Kingdom".
Why did Jesus give the Apostle Peter the "keys of the kingdom". How did Peter end up using them? What does this reveal about ourselves? And how should it govern our values and commitments as a church? Join us as we take a short break from our Hebrews series and welcome our guest preacher Rev Phil Court! This week, we'll take a look at Matthew 16:13-19 and Acts 10:1-20 as well as Acts 15:1-12 through a sermon titled "The Keys of the Kingdom".
