Where Do Our Western Values Come From? Part 6
In recent decades in the western world we’ve seen a retreat away from Christian beliefs. But what if the prized values of ‘the west’ could be shown to be fundamentally Christian values? What if the western world has retreated away from Christian beliefs, but without leaving behind its Christian values? What if those things we refer to as ‘human rights’ have been left behind by the retreating tide of Christianity? If that’s true, it would surely prove to be a confidence-builder for those espousing Christianity. They’d be able to ‘own’ the core values of society as being Christian values, and so be aware of – and even be able to celebrate – the historic achievements of Christianity in its broadest terms. Drawing on the writings of Tom Holland and Glen Scrivener, in this short book Brian shows that this is indeed the case.

Titus: A Manual for Restrained Living and Endless Liberty - Part 5: All About Faith and Works
In Paul's letter to Titus, the one quality commanded as characteristic of every believer is self-control. If it was true for the challenging culture of Crete back then, it's no less true for the world we live in today, a world that in many places seems set on throwing off all kinds of restraints.
Here, by the Spirit of God, Paul singles out the vital need for restrained living in an unrestrained society. God wants all of us to be serious about spiritual things. In a culture back then that was unruly and rebellious, the Lord was looking for those who could restrain their appetites, their minds, their bodies, their words and their habits. In this short series, Brian shares Paul's model that gives us a primer for Christian living in any age.
