Description

Have you ever seen someone completely enjoying life? Living to their fullest, not brought down by anyone or anything, totally having their stuff together? It's almost like they know secrets you don't.

This show is about those secrets.

Don't worry. Not very many people know these secrets. Or if they do, they don't apply them. These secrets are skills and mindsets not taught in any college or high school course. We may have heard of them, but no one taught us how to actually apply them to our lives. Which is a shame, because when you apply them, your life becomes more awesome.

That's why I created this podcast, for teens who are looking to up the awesome level in their lives.

I am Joey Mascio and I’m a Teen & Young Adult Life Coach. I was certified at the Life Coach School where I was trained by Master Life Coach Brooke Castillo. I've also gone through Jody Moore's Advanced Certification. I take the strategies and tools I’ve learned from these two powerful women, and lots of my own, and adapt them for teenagers and young adults. I am also a middle school teacher and counselor, a proud father of three, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

A teen's body language communicates SO MUCH. There are ways teens can stand, sit, and walk that will not only create confidence within yourself, but also signal to other people that you ARE confident. I interview special guest Derik Clark, a 22-year US Army veteran officer who specialized in counterintelligence (anti spy) investigations and intelligence source operations (similar to police informant stuff).  Through these responsibilities he became a subject matter expert in body language assessments, high stakes interviewing in threatening environments, and building relationships of trust with intelligence agencies in domestic and international environments. He shares tips with teens on how to have confident body language. Plus, as a tip at the end, he tells teens how to recognize if someone likes you!To learn more about what Derik does, visit his website https://bodysights.com/--My new gamified mindset training app for teens, Sidekick to Hero, is available now! The biggest fear of any tween or teen is people thinking they are weird. They'd almost rather die. "Weird" people don't make friends, right? But people thinking they are weird isn't as bad as their brain makes it out to be. In fact, if people think you're weird when you are just being yourself, you are MORE likely to find your friends, NOT less likely.--My new gamified mindset training app for teens, Sidekick to Hero, is available now! Emotions can seem scary, especially for teens. Most of us treat our emotions like a monster from a horror movie. We are afraid of them because we don't know what they look like, where they came from, or what to do with them. And we certainly don't want to face them. Today's secret for an awesome life is: Don't run from or fight unpleasant emotions. Choose to allow them to be with you. In this episode, I teach teens how to process unpleasant emotions so they can keep moving toward their life's goals.--My new gamified mindset training app for teens, Sidekick to Hero, is available now! Sure, it's a lot easier than talking in person, but not the most effective way to communicate. Negative thoughts can really stop a teen from reaching their full potential. These thoughts can be changed into positive ones, though! If you know how. Throwing out a positive thought to a teen who really believes their negative one will just come off as cliche and cheesy. Tweens and teens often find their siblings annoying! It causes fights and ruins the harmony in the home. But, teens can do something to lessen the power that their siblings have over them. You don't need your siblings to change! But, most of the time they do change when you realize why they might be being annoying in the first place and change your response. No one likes to talk about physical or sexual abuse, which can lead to victims of this kind of abuse to not want to talk about it either. I bring on Ben Pugh, my friend and a fellow life coach, to talk about his experience of being a victim of sexual & physical abuse as well as his experience helping victims as a principal and foster parent. We approach this very serious topic in a way that’s not too heavy for listeners. I hope all parents and teens find our conversation helpful, whether they’ve been a victim of abuse or not.--Sign up for Ben's Impact: Live! an awesome summer retreat for parents and teens at https://benpughcoaching.com/il24/Check out Ben's amazing podcast for parents of teens, Impact: Parenting with Perspective at https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/impact-parenting-with-perspective/id1523428934--To submit a topic for my podcast that would benefit your teen, email me at joey@sidekicktohero.com--My new gamified mindset training app for teens, Sidekick to Hero, is available now! Cocky vs Confident

Cocky vs Confident

2024-02-0812:39

A teen's fear of being seen as "cocky" often stops them from truly being confident. Why can't we admit our talents and achievements?? There is totally a way to be confident without being cocky. You just also have to be able to admit your flaws, as well. In this episode, I talk to teens about how not to cross that line into arrogance and how being able to claim your wins will lead to more of them.--My new gamified mindset training app for teens, Sidekick to Hero, is available now! Labeling Yourself

Labeling Yourself

2024-02-0116:02

Welcome to Season 5! I start this season by talking to tweens and teens about how we label ourselves. Some labels limit us and some help us grow. But all labels are self-given. If teens can work on removing the limiting labels and believing more in the helpful labels, they'll create a healthier and happier mindset.--My new gamified mindset training app for teens, Sidekick to Hero, is available now! Don't Let Age Stop You

Don't Let Age Stop You

2023-11-3011:48

Age is a big deal for teens. I get it. I'm turning 40 tomorrow. Age is a big deal for me, too! But, does it have to be? How might you be limiting yourself because of a number? I know the government and other organizations put age limits on things, but is your brain also limiting you? "I'm only 13, I can't be a leader of a club." Remove all self-imposed limitations and you'll be able to do a lot more than you think. Just not drive. You totally have to be 16 for that.--I made a video version of the story opener for this episode! Being Left Out

Being Left Out

2023-11-1620:26

Sometimes teens feel left out of their friend group. Maybe they are younger than their friends, have a different religion, race, economic situation, GPA, whatever! However, most times it is not our friends leaving us out. It is our own mind. In this episode, I share a clip of one of my Sidekick to Hero livestreams where a teen gets some coaching on this exact thing.--30% OFF BLACK FRIDAY DEAL on my new gamified mindset training app for teens, Sidekick to Hero, from November 20th through 27th, 2023. Teens want to do so much! It's awesome!! Your life is laid out in front of you to do awesome things! But in order to do these awesome things, we have to LET GO of the things that are holding us back. The things that are keeping us tied down to being comfortable. It could be video games or social media, it could be a boyfriend or girlfriend, or it could be pornography or junk food. Whatever it is that we are holding on to, we need to let go of if we ever want to truly live our lives freely and become the person we want to become.--My new gamified mindset training app for teens, Sidekick to Hero, is available on desktop now! Motivation is the fuel that drives us. Like gasoline. What if teens could create self-motivation at will. Then they would be a force to be reckoned with! They would never find themselves stranded in the middle of nowhere without the fuel to get to where they want to go. You can't create gas out of thin air but you can create motivation. I'll teach you how in today's episode.--My new gamified mindset training app for teens, Sidekick to Hero, is available on desktop now!
