Since our last episode, the Sens lost to the Islanders and defeated Boston impressively on the road, 3-2 in overtime. Linus Ullmark was impressive in his return to Boston. Brady Tkachuk launched team record 12 shots, including the winner and Steve watched the Islanders' game with Pierre Dorion.
The Senators are home to host the Islanders trying to shake off a beatdown in Buffalo. We discuss the game, some controversial calls, Linus Ullmark's uneven first month and much more.
Are the Ottawa Senators For Real This Season? They've had good stretches before. Why is this different? We talk about the impressive games against the Rangers and the Kraken. And Brady Tkachuk sounds like a man who's ready to do whatever it takes to make the next step.
The Sens fire a blank at Utah. Linus Ullmark misses a fourth straight game. Anton Forsberg comes up big. Artem Zub missed a third straight game. When he comes back, who’s out? Nick Jensen shows some offensive upside. And much more.
The Senators weathered the storm in Linus Ullmark's absence, going 2-1, including a 5-4 win over Tampa Bay on Saturday. Ullmark is back and will join the team for a three-game road trip that starts Tuesday in Utah. Jake Sanderson's stock continues to rise. And the Sens' big guns are all getting their points across early.
The Sens have gone 1-2 since our last episode: a 4-1 loss in Montreal, a wild 8-7 OT win over LA and a 3-1 loss to the Devils. Injuries set in early. Linus Ullmark is already dinged up. He might be ready on Saturday unless he's not. Artem Zub and Ridly Greig are out for a week or two. The new free-agent forwards are off to a slow start. Erik Brannstrom back in the NHL.
Linus Ullmark shines as the Ottawa Senators win their home opener 3-1 over the Stanley Cup Champs. We discuss game number one, what we liked, what we didn't like (spoiler: not much), and we also wonder about the game in Montreal on Saturday night and how feisty it's likely to get.
The Ottawa Senators announced the signing of goalie Linus Ullmark to a four-year extension today worth $33 million. That will keep him in Ottawa for the next five seasons. In this episode, Steve Warne is joined by Graeme Nichols, a fellow contributor to The Hockey News Ottawa, to break it all down. And we hear from Steve Staios and Linus Ullmark, in their own words, as to why the extension made sense for both sides.
The Senators have settled on their final roster but are well-positioned for tinkering without concern about waivers. Carter Yakemchuk returns to junior, and Zack Ostapchuk heads for Belleville. Adam Gaudette gets waived and then makes the team. Shane Pinto says there are no more excuses; this club needs to make the playoffs.
The Senators appear to be opening the season with forward Zack Ostapchuk and defenceman Carter Yakemchuk on the roster. Zack MacEwen will also be there. Adam Gaudette and Jan Jenik are both placed on waivers. Senators close the preseason with a 5-1-1 record Shane Pinto goes off in the preseason finale Erik Brannstrom has been traded by Colorado…and he’s on waivers… Jeremy Swayman gets a new deal with Boston. The Robin Lehner contract settlement…It's always advantage Vegas. Welcome to the world, Charlie Giroux. The Giroux line is complete.
Sens Win a Feisty Game in Montreal 4-3; Some Injury Concerns; Carter Yakemchuk and Adam Gaudette, both battling for jobs, both get a goal and an assist. Arber Xhekaj takes a hard run at Tim Stutzle. We're still not sure if the Sens are deep enough on D.
The Senators' pre-season record falls to 2-2. With nearly a full NHL roster, some of the glitches return to the D Zone coverage, and the Penguins old guard continues to haunt the Senators. We continue to speculate on who might get the limited job openings. And Zub is still out and Norris still hasn't played yet.
Senators Enjoy a Pre-Season Sweep of the Leafs; We discuss the Senators' 2-1 victory over Toronto; Ridly Greig Gets Injured; Jake Sanderson and Zack Ostapchuk both impressive in the victory
Sens Win Wild Pre-Season Opener 6-5 in Toronto; Yakemchuk Scores Winner, but he's not ready to stay in the NHL. We hear from Yakemchuk, the coach and discuss everything about the pre-season opener.
On his first anniversary as owner, Michael Andlauer talks about the Sens new downtown arena deal. The Sens preseason is underway with two games against the Leafs. We have lots of lineup talk. Brady is a dad. And former Senator Robin Lehner doesn't show up for his physical.
The kids aren't all right. The Sens start rookie camp and the prospects challenge at 0-3. We talk about Carter Yakemchuk, Tyler Boucher and Stephen Halliday. Sidney Crosby signs an extension for, you guessed it, $8.7M.
Steve covered the Sens annual golf tournament on Monday and heard from Thomas Chabot and Tim Stutzle who both feel fully healthy. Could Travis Hamonic rebound this season? Michael Andlauer is a breath of fresh air. Alex Formenton moves on from hockey. If Max Pacioretty makes the Leafs, will they let him wear his traditional number 67??? Kind of a sensitive number in Toronto.
It's PTO-signing season. The Sens signed former Toronto Maple Leafs left winger Nikolay Kulemin. and also brought in 24-year-old right-shot defenceman Calen Addison. The Sens host the media to unveil what's new for 2024. Linus Ullmark and Steve Staios meet the media.
We discuss the signing of Nick Cousins, who brings another Cup ring and a major pest factor to the table. We also get into the tragic news about Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew. They were killed after being hit by a car on Thursday night.
A great chat with former Sens defenceman Mark Borowiecki. We catch up with what's new in Boroland. We discuss some of the moves the Sens made this summer. We get into the underrated value of the shutdown defenceman in the game. We talk about coaching and development and the importance of a positive culture. Boro also gives a thoughtful perspective on fighting in the game. And we joke about how Ottawa is a big small town.
