Playlist No 294 Losing two talented musicians last month is truly saddening for our music community. Robert Fox, a shining star in melodic orchestral electronic music and co-founder of Code Indigo, was affectionately known as “Master of the Grand Soundscape.” Bernard Szajner, the talented composer and visual artist, produced five innovative avant-garde electronic albums from 1979 to 1983. He also invented an extraordinary laser harp called the ‘Syeringe,’ and kindly agreed to create another for Jean-Michel Jarre’s performances in China. We are pleased to introduce for the first time in this edition ‘Almost Random’ on the Cyclical label. The musicians' compositions blend light and dark ambient sounds, incorporating atmospheric elements and subtle touches of symphonic scoring. Based in Scotland, Portland Vows delivers an immersive auditory experience characterized by minimalistic sparkling undertones and light female voices. Orca Attack! is Elizabeth Joan Kelly and David Rodriguez, a duo from New Orleans blending swamp rock, space opera and folk music, exemplifying certainly experimental sounds. It was sad to hear that musician Loren Nerell passed away in July 2026 at the age of 65. He dedicated many decades to blending ambient electronic music with gamelan, leaving behind a rich legacy. As a tribute, we have selected two tracks from his 2016 release ‘The Venerable Dark Cloud,’ on the U.S. label Projekt. I was pleasantly surprised by the playlist on SoundCloud from our recent two-part edition! The ambient downtempo tracks clearly resonated with listeners, with twice the stats of the more uptempo tunes. Looking at past one-off specials, the ambient side still led the way-Erik Wollo reached 1300 plays, and surprisingly, David Parsons topped the charts with over 2000 listeners. While we can’t get detailed stats from most of the sites where our podcasts are featured, we’re happy to see that many of our fans are now discovering us on iTunes, according to a website that monitors certain music sites.
