This pod is absolute classist trash. The ads I hear for it suggesting ‘reading catalogues’ each week before shopping like that’s going to make a difference to people’s ability to buy a home when house prices are rising far faster than incomes and have been for two decades. Trash.

If you look a little deeper into The Marshmallow Experiment you'll find that the children who eat the marshmallow immediately are more likely to experience food insecurity so it's more about being hungry and fearful that you might not get the promised three marshmallows if you wait - nothing to do with impulse control.

This podcast put me in emotional rollercoaster. I was laughing and crying through out the episode. I can relate to this episode. I came here to do Masters in Nurisng and I was doing housekeeping in Meriton hotel. Guests would ask me why I am doing housekeeping when I am a registered nurse back home. I lost 10kg within 6months with no diet and extra exercise. Had to pay $15800 every 6 months for my fees and had 20hrs per week to work. But Australia has given me so much. Changed me in good way and I will forever grateful for this opportunity. If I was not in Australia, I am for sure ,would not learn money habits. Bdw I am so glad I have found this podcast

Granted, I did stopped listening when you got to discussing the NDIS (because I was too worked up), but what I did hear of this discussion did not seem very balanced. I remember the episode you did on HECS where you spoke positively about Robodebt and I thought, my goodness is this a Liberal party podcast?!! I was getting the same impression here. There are some great articles around at the moment (obviously not in Murdoch press), looking into the budget with a bit more of a critical lense. This episode was a disappointment.

Also 2% of a 500k mortgage is not $2000.

The rental market is awful at the moment, being a single parent and renting is super stressfull- people are homeless with kids because there are no rentals. There are houses in my town for sale for $169k and its renting for $330 per week. I live in a smaller town and I could buy a house for $250, 000 easily. I think its a great scheme to help single parents. This podcast feels a bit negative toward single parents assuming that we can't pay a mortgage in our own due to having kids??

This episode would have been way more useful if the guest wasn't a clearly very wealthy person who explained how she spent $1000 on private pilates classes and $300 on plants for the nursery. If you have $20,000 to spend on having a baby you probably don't need a financial advice podcast...
