And without that sleep.. they turn into little monsters!

In this episode, we tackle a long-debated topic: Should dogs be allowed on the furniture? For years, traditional trainers have advised against it, claiming it can lead to behavioral issues and dominance problems. But is there real evidence to support this, or is it an outdated myth? We’ll break down the pros and cons of allowing dogs on couches and beds, explore how this practice affects the human-dog relationship, and discuss modern perspectives on boundaries in the home. Tune in to hear both sides and decide what's best for your household. We'd love to hear in the comments if YOU allow your dogs on furniture, yes or no.
In this episode, we dive into the growing trend of canine enrichment and ask the big question: Are we overdoing it? From puzzle toys to scent work, dog owners are always looking for ways to keep their pets stimulated and engaged. But is there such a thing as too much enrichment? We'll explore the benefits of mental and physical stimulation for dogs, as well as potential downsides of constantly filling their time. Join us as we discuss the balance between providing enrichment and allowing dogs to simply be dogs. About US:Toni - Toni is a dog trainer and pack walker from Auckland. In today's episode we talk with Canadian dog trainer Evan Doggett (Yep, that's his real last name!). Evan is an awesome dog trainer with a great sense of humour, bringing a lot of joy into dog training. Today we discuss the impact TikTok/Social media has on how we view our dogs and how it could set us up for failure for constantly seeing unrealistic videos and taking that as 'realism'. We also discuss if desexing is a good idea when it comes to working on behaviour problems! In this episode we have Brent Dry on from the K9 Company in Melbourne. We deep dive into why group obedience classes are awesome and how we can work on building an engaged, excited dog even in difficult environments! Topics we cover:Do you think every dog owner should be doing group classes with their dog at some stage? What are some common issues you often see in dog owners when they come to your group classes?Do you think there are some common misconceptions about group classes and if so, shall we debunk them? (not suitable for certain breeds, boring, not catered to the dog, dog isn’t ‘finished’ learning after 5 weeks etc). What makes a good group class to you? What should owners look for when they sign up somewhere? What is your opinion about puppy school? Do you think puppy play is essential? And controversially; do vet/big box store run puppy school more harm than good? About US:Toni - Toni is a dog trainer and pack walker from Auckland. Join us as we sit down with renowned dog trainer Larry Krohn to discuss the most important aspect of dog training. In this episode of She Gets SIT done, we dive into the most important thing in dog training: Teaching YOU. The human effectively. Tune in now to learn from the best in the business! Larry is a leader in the dog training world and is the owner and dog trainer of Pak Masters in Kentucky, USA. Larry is a retired federal agent and first started his dog training business after helping so many people with their dogs who had previously worked with other trainers and unfortunately saw no results. Larry has successfully helped hundreds of dogs, especially aggressive cases who would have been euthanised. He believes any dog can be trained. Make sure to check out his YT channel if you haven't done so already! He has also released a brand new ecollar training course which you can find here: https://sitstaylearn.com/collections/all/products/providing-freedom-through-e-collar-training-by-larry-krohn?variant=48591370387745 And his book that has helped thousands before you can find here: https://amzn.to/4e8kDEr Questions we cover: 1. The ecollar has a lot of stigma around it and its purpose. When people go online they will find a lot of big NO NO’s for the ecollar. Would you be able to explain why the ecollar is a useful and safe/dog friendly tool for those who are not familiar with the tool, or are still unsure about it? 2. What situations would you recommend the ecollar would be a great option to utilise for training? Is it suitable for all breeds and ages? And when would you NOT use an eocllar? 3. I believe a lot of dog owners think dog training happens in a vacuum. Like a 10 min training session. Or the 30 minute walk. One of the things you often mention is that training happens all day and isn’t bound to just training sessions. Are you able to explain this? 4. When you work with dogs with (or without) behaviour problems, would you say that teaching the owner the right skills is just as important, if not MORE important, than teaching the dog? 5. You mention that teaching strong foundations is so important for dog owners. What skills would you say are part of those strong foundations for a dog and owner to know and possibly avoid future issues? 6. You just released a new e-collar training course. You want to tell us what it’s about and who it’s for? About US: Toni - Toni is a dog trainer and pack walker from Auckland. He has acreated an amazing learning platform for dog owners called Consider The Dog. It is full of helpful videos and courses from a variety of different well known dog trainers. What do you think are common causes for reactivity in dogs (excluding bad breeding/genetics?) 2. Would you think a one off ‘attack’ causes reactivity? Or the owner that has done ‘everything right’ 3. What are common mistakes reactive dog owners make that can make the reactivity worse? 4. Lots of dog owners feel like correcting their ‘fear reactive’ dog is a big no no. What is your take on that? 5. Do you think it’s necessary to label the ‘type’ of reactivity? E.g fear reactivity? Does it change the way you approach training? 6. Rehoming has a big stigma in the dog world (compared to say the horse world). When do you think its suitable for owners to look for a new home? Or even look at behavioural euthanasia? -------------- About US: Toni - Toni is a dog trainer and pack walker from Auckland. Do you own a reactive dog? There is a lot of information out there on how to deal with your reactive dog in terms of training and improving their training... but how are YOU feeling with your reactive dog? And how are YOU coping? When you have a reactive dog or a dog with aggression issues you have to come to terms with the fact that you can't do certain things you had in mind when you originally got the dog. The doggy playdates, the fun on the beach, seeing your dog play with other dogs, taking them to cafes. All of these things seem far away for you or maybe even impossible and it's a process coming to terms with the fact you won't have those moments. Living with a reactive dog also causes a 'trauma' response in YOU as the dog owner and your dog's reactivity basically turns into your reactivity and I feel like it's not often talked about besides being told 'just be less stressed because your dog feels it down the lead'. In this episode we discuss: - Coming to terms with having a reactive dog and what that means for your lifestyle - The 'trauma' it causes for you as the owner - Labelling your dog as reactive can be helpful but also detrimental to your progress - How to cope with unhelpful people commenting on your dog when they're having a meltdown - That progress isn't linear and ups and downs are normal - That if you are consistent you will get results, but if you don't get any results even after a very long time it may be time to change up the training program - It's okay to correct a reactive dog and we need to get rid of the stigma that 'fear reactive dogs' can't be corrected for being excessive or over reacting. A really interesting and helpful account to follow is: Handlersandhumans on IG. We'd love to hear what you think of this episode!

In today’s episode we wil be discussing dog trainers that make you feel SHIT on social media/in real life training. We discuss the difference between sport dog trainers and pet dog trainers and that you need to find the right dog trainer for your dog. That you don’t have to spend 4 hours a day training your dog or you’re a ‘bad owner’, that you can use whatever equipment you like without being ridiculed for it and that it’s okay if your dog sleeps on your bed. If a dog trainer comes in and makes you feel bad and is very ‘their way or the highway’, it may be better to find a different trainer where you are able to learn and feel validated.Don’t just take Facebook, instagram and TikTok as ‘real’. In the first episode we discuss OVER-socialisation. Yes, you read that right.
