Welcome to the ShortTalks podcast! We've created a space to host our mini series where we talk to a wide range of individuals about topics that we think could be of use in our businesses and jobs. So far we've spoken with a wide range of athletes, explorers and adventurers about topics like dealing with isolation, how to achieve and maintain a high performance mindset, along with how to come back from the brink when things don't go to plan, and some inspirational young leaders. As part of our ShortTalks series we are talking to a wide range of individuals about topics that we think could be of use in our businesses and jobs.In this episode we talk with ethical entrepreneur and global adventurer Kate Strong about what motivates her, living to the max, and how to pursue your goals in an ethical way.Kate Strong is a Welsh triathlete who has accomplished many impressive feats. She is currently training for a Guinness World Record attempt at the end of 2020 of a static bicycle challenge, for the furthest distance covered in 24 hours without moving with an aim of cycling 800 kilometres. Kate is also planning future events and will be taking part in Race Across America, a race which spans 3,000 miles, with the hopes of being the first female finisher. In this episode we talk with New Zealand based, Mental Skills Coach Dan Stampabout his career working with professionals in elite sport, as well as in the corporate world, providing coaching on how to create a high performance mindset.Dan Stamp is highly regarded as an expert in developing a high performance mindset. He started his career in the UK, before moving to Auckland as a Senior Lecturer at the Unitec Institute of Technology. In addition to this Dan worked as the lead mental skills coach for the New Zealand U21s Netball squad. Dan then went onto work with other elite sports players as well as clients in the corporate world including surgeons and lawyers, coaching them to operate at peak performance levels. In this session Dan gives us some insights on some tips we can use right now to help maintain focus.

In this episode we talk with Red Bull F1 Aerodynamics Design Engineer Laura Davies about how to pursue your goals and land your dream job. Laura talks about how her involvement with the Army Reserves whilst at University opened up a number of opportunities in her career.Laura Davies is a remarkable young individual. She is someone who seizes every opportunity and has already worked in a number of exciting positions despite being so early on in her career. After graduating in 2016, she worked on the Bloodhound SSC world land speed record project, an America's cup racing team, Dyson's electric car project and now works at Red Bull F1 as an Aerodynamics Design Engineer. All this despite one of her lecturers at Uni telling her that as a woman she would never succeed in engineering. Laura certainly proved him wrong by being voted one of the Top 100 most influential women in engineering in 2019.
Right now, all of our customers are considering their next move when it comes to their businesses and how to bounce back after the effect lockdown has had on their business over the past few months. So we felt it would be useful to interview some unique individuals who are experts at turning things around when the going gets tough and to share their insights on how to come back from the brink. The next in our series is Sarah Donohue, former European, British and American Offshore Powerboat Champion. Sarah’s varied and exciting life has allowed her to mix in some of the most interesting circles across the globe - from dining with Sea Lords & F1 drivers to test driving a Sheik's Raceboat in Dubai as well as chasing a drug runner on the straits of Gibraltar with the military.
Amanda Muela is a Senior Product Designer at Cisco, where she is currently supporting a new generation of thinkers and leaders. Before landing at Duo Security, company acquired in 2018 by Cisco, Amanda also had the opportunity to solve problems for social enterprise software, banking, retail and security industries. She takes pride in advocating for people needs, exploring what could be, and delivering outcomes.
Priyanka has spent more thank 14 years working on product design and development within digital transformation programmes for clients in UK and US. With more than a decade of working within Scrum and SAFe agile methodologies, she has been an integral part of critical transformation programmes unlocking value for the customers. She is an effective communicator and believes in contributing and empowering individuals to reach their potential.
Nikki North has been working in Intelligent Automation for over 15 years starting out with RPA back in 2006 and specifically working in Financial services. She has delivered value across hundreds of processes using pure RPA and more recently leveraging the eco system of IA technologies to drive business value. Nikki is also a mother who aims to inspire her two daughters to be whatever they want to be in life.
Nicki is an experienced Business Intelligence Manager in the UK. She loves helping businesses and organisations thrive and grow by using their data. Nicki also has her own company, Empowered Analysts, to help other analysts reach their fullest potential through coaching, mentorship and technical guidance. Therefore, she is currently on a mission to help analysts learn and develop, from entry level all the way to getting into management.
Lindsey Daniels is passionate about applying a people-driven approach to work. She started her career being involved in technology and business improvement projects within a large corporate enterprise, leading teams during a trajectory of growth and digital transformation, transforming the business model from traditional professional services into SaaS. Now, Lindsey is Head of IT Performance & Governance at Places for People. She was shortlisted for Digital Leader of the Year and Outstanding Transformation at the Women in Tech Excellence Awards 2021.
Samantha Coyle is a Software Engineer from Texas. She is an identical twin who has had a unique experience entering the field with her software engineer siblings. Samantha loves solving challenging problems and her goal is to further develop her skill set and career as an engineer. Also, she believes that we can all flourish in an environment that cultivates diversity, inclusion, and caffeinated curiosity.
Missy is Senior UI/UX Designer at Virtuix, she is also a mentor at Pathrise and she has experience as Product Designer, User Experience Designer and Visual Designer at companies such as RapidDeploy and IBM. Missy is passionate about her job, aiming to understand people's diverse experiences and needs as they relate to the world around them, and translate them into shared actionable design opportunities.
Shilpa Rao is Head of Artificial Intelligence Products and Platform at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). And she is not only a successful woman that loves AI, but also a creative mind that during her childhood was able to overcome the barriers presented by her dyslexia, condition that she only found out about a couple of years ago.

The next in our series is Adventurer and Extreme Athlete, Rebecca Coles.Rebecca Coles is an Expedition Leader and Mountain Instructor with a PhD in Glacial Geomorphology Working as an expedition leader she has led over 40 expeditions in places such as Chile, Madagascar, Nepal, Borneo, Zambia, Botswana, India, Tanzania and the Wakhan Corridor, Afghanistan. Rebecca is a qualified International Mountain Leader and Mountaineering Instructor (MIC) Rebecca has been named as one of the 50 most ground-breaking and influential female climbers to come out of the UK.

The next in our series is American Adventurer, Aaron Linsdau.Aaron is the second only American to ski alone from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole, setting a world record for surviving the longest expedition ever for that trip. Everything he needed was in two sleds, dragged across the wastelands of Antarctica. Only 2 weeks into his expedition, the 70 pounds of butter he had brought along for energy turned rancid due to solar radiation. He also fell ill with a severe chest infection but battled through this and overall took a world record 80 days to reach the pole. In summary, Aaron knows a thing or two about isolation and resilience.

A 4,000-mile journey that took him 352 days to complete, he faced bears, altitude, wolves, landslides, blizzards and had to send 10 of the 16 team members (that joined him for short stints at different locations) home, due to altitude sickness, fear of wildlife and/or injury.
