Remember the 2020-2022? That was one heck of a time - and while we were living through it, it felt like EVERYTHING was changing and would stay that way for ever.Well, it's now halfway through 2023 and... Things feel like the old normal, not the new one, in many cases. The Simblified gang try to make sense of this: a discussion that traverses many topics we've spoken about in the last few years: medicine, physicality, remote work, supply chains and a lot more. Join in as we try to make sense of the world we're in now. We speak to Simblified fan (!) and microbiologist Avraneel Paul on a whole bunch of things related to what happens inside our body! Viruses and bacteria, how vaccines work, how those WBC badasses keep us safe, and so on. Along the way, we also speak about exciting advancements like CRISPR, and explore philosophical questions like whether Covid has changed the field... And what a day in the life of a scientist looks like. There's loads of trivia, loads of simblification and a few bad jokes as well in this two-part episode. We hope you like it and have renewed appreciation for scientists (and your body!) after it! It's another episode of Half Pints, where your panelists come in with a fact each. This time, we look at the origins of high heels, Tony's prediction that a marathon record will be broken, and Chuck wondering if indeed we are back to pre-covid days work-wise. As always, the topics are just excuses for your hosts to make random jokes and observations and among them are some commentary puns, Yes Minister references and more. Have you wondered why your partner no longer looks at you with starry eyes? Your Simblified hosts try to figure out this enormously important and vexatious question by dissecting the bestselling book "5 Love Languages" by Gary Chapman. "The opposite of belonging is fitting in." Having chanced upon this quote, Tony did the logical thing and brought it to the Simblified gang to share their thoughts. In this reflective episode, Naren, Chuck, Srikeit and Tony chat about belonging, vulnerability, their dinner guest list and more. We've never done a cricket episode mostly because 3/4 of the panel doesn't really care for the sport anymore. But that's not to say we never cared for it. Chuck used to spend a fair bit of his teenage years on Cricinfo's stats pages. Srikeit gorged on Wikipedia. Naren is drawn to anything that has cricket - and by virtue of their presence in PG Wodehouse stories, means he knows a few stories. Tony of course, runs a lovely show called Bits & Pieces with friends. In celebration of the IPL, we bring to you a half pints episode - where there are 4 facts, stats and stories around the lovely sport. We digress (as we usually do) into other memories, stats, moments and stories. Join the gang as we hit this one out of the park. Many money thoughts

Many money thoughts

Chuck recently read Morgan Housel's bestseller, The Psychology of Money. It's a fascinating book that speaks about the mental aspects of saving, wealth creation and investing, rather than the technical aspects. It's a must-read for those in their 20s. In this episode, we discuss some of the points in the book, share our own money stories, and realise that as we get older we're getting more philosophical. Wow, our little show has crossed a triple century! (Waves mic to audience) (gets scolded by producer)  Er... Anyway. In 2015 when Chuck and Naren decided to try a small project, who would have thought that it would still be running 8 years later, with a loyal fanbase and two more hosts? To celebrate the milestone, we call on one of the smartest folks we know - Amit Varma of The Seen & The Unseen fame. The history of our shows are intertwined (something we speak about), and Amit had appeared on the live Episode 100 all those years ago. Now, we're all older, wiser, and (in Amit's case) more successful. We speak about all of this in an episode where goofiness turns to profundity, where Wodehouse quotes segue into virtual hugs. Join in for a celebration of this show! Thank you to all the listeners over the years, and the folks at IVM podcasts for signing us up, tolerating us and making us sound way better than we actually are. Moral Philosopher and Intelligence Researcher James Flynn wanted to debunk a racist article by UC Berkely professor Arthur Jensen (who was concluding that blacks scored lower on IQ tests because they were genetically inferior). He ended up discovering that far from scoring lower, they were actually doing steadily better, and to his amazement, so was the entire population, regardless of race or ethnicity. This was later called the Flynn Effect and numerous studies across the world, across populations and over time frames confirmed his conclusionsJoin your SImblified Hosts Naren and Tony as they try to explore the effect and what might the possible causes beA great piece on the phenomenon of intelligent people holding biased and stupid views, which we talk about in the episode ishttps://gurwinder.substack.com/p/why-smart-people-hold-stupid-beliefs  Add one part news, one part bad jokes, one part Wikipedia research, one part cult references from spending too much time on the internet, one part Wodehouse quotes, and one part quality puns, and you get Simblified.A weekly podcast to help you appear smarter, to an audience that knows no less! Chuck - I'm not a fan of MBA schools but I think they provide valuable education for large company employee life in non technical and managerial fields. Also networking had a bad rep and you the out the straw man agrument for it.

Not much of a traveller, but some of my work trips were far more memorable than vacations I took. Thats because during work trips I had to interact with people, stop and give a thought about the surroundings instead of obsessing over itinerary on a typical vacation. I can't believe someone had to spell it out for me to realise this.

I am in the process of checking ticket trends for Sri Lanka (my first 'overseas' trip) and the tickets for even 4 months away are really expensive on all ticket platforms. Tried the wikitravels page as i was listening to this and saw 50% reduction in prices! Thanks!
