Description

A  fortnightly podcast that explains things in the news to help you appear smarter, to an audience that knows no less ;-). Basically, we take topics and attempt to deconstruct them - using generous pilfering from Wikipedia, a bit of humour (that's a flexible usage of the word), Wodehouse quotes and more. Occasionally, we invite guests who know better than us (not a high bar) to discuss fun careers and stuff.

Hosted by three pun-loving madcaps who think Malad is the best thing since Android: Chuck, Naren and Srikeit.

What happens when three Pun lovers who run a podcast meet their spiritual Punning guru? That's right, a conversation on how to make tea. Ajit Bhaskar, whose puns on Twitter (@ajit_bhaskar) resulted in him being honoured with a unit (the worst Simblified pun is only. 6 Ajits), and whose incredible cooking skills have made many drool over at Instagram (@macroajit), is actually a Ph.D. who now is a food scientist. He joins the Simblified crew for a fascinating chat on what happens behind the scenes of your favourite tea brew. NEW TO SIMBLIFIED? It's an Indian podcast - probably the best to come from Malad West - that takes things that happen around us, and deconstructs them in a language you can understand, often surmounting several puns and PG Wodehouse references along the way. We aim to make you appear smarter during parties, job interviews, and dates. Your hosts (and Twitter / Instagram handles) are Chuck (@chuck_gopal / @chuckofalltrades), Srikeit (@srikeit, @srikeit) and Naren (@shenoyn, @shenoynv). So, yeah, the weather in Mumbai isn't all that great (or is full of romance, petrichor, and other nonsense, if you don't need to travel by public transport). Anyway - we frequently criticize the MET for getting the weather wrong. But they get it right most of the time, and it's pretty darn difficult to ask given that literally anything in the world could change the weather. It was a meteorologist who coined the phrase 'butterfly effect', after all. Chuck and Srikeit look at how the weather is predicted and look back at some ways our ancestors used to do so. Your hosts (and Twitter / Instagram handles) are Chuck (@chuck_gopal / @chuckofalltrades), Srikeit (@srikeit, @srikeit) and Naren (@shenoyn, @shenoynv). This is part 2 of our chat with Utsav Mamoria, on travel. Make sure you check out Part 1 here - https://ivm.today/SIMB-137 Chuck and Naren talk to Utsav Mamoria, who makes his third appearance (!) on the show. The last time, he spoke about how he was preparing for a 3-month sabbatical (Episode 85) - this time, he's back and is ready to share his experiences, stories and most importantly - tips for those who want to travel on a budget. A desi budget. Utsav finished an enviable itinerary at a cost you won't believe. He is hard at work on his travel book, as well - make sure you check it out later in the year. We talk about budgeting for flights, stay, food, sightseeing and more. This is less 'Simblification' and more 'chat with a person very passionate about travel'. He also slips in some beautiful stories, and evangelizes slow travel, as opposed to trying to check off as many items as possible in a day. Follow Utsav and his travel stories (trust us, this is different from other 'pretty pictures only' travel accounts): instagram.com/whywetravel42 Recommended by Utsav: Airline Ticketing: Skyscanner, Kayak, Momondo, Hoppr, Google Flights Booking Stay: Booking.com, AirBnB, Hostelbookers, Hostelworld, Couchsurfing NEW TO SIMBLIFIED? Recently, Apple unveiled Daisy - a robot made for stripping apart its iPhones so that parts and precious metals can be reused. What's more, the company noted for its secrecy has opened the lab up to other manufacturers so they can learn from it. It's one more step that the Cupertino company is taking towards its environmental goals. Chuck and Naren give you the dope about Daisy in this shortie. NEW TO SIMBLIFIED? After a long rally of 'yes-it-has's and 'oh-really-I-don't-think-so's, scientists have finally agreed that we are now in a new geological epoch which recognizes that humans have significantly changed earth with their activities. Join your Simblified hosts as they delve into what the Anthropocene epoch is and the latest dope on all the happenings. NEW TO SIMBLIFIED? Julian Assange has been in the news recently - he got arrested after riding a skateboard around in the place that was actually sheltering him from arrest for a rape case, while in parallel, the US wanted to have a chat with him about all those top secret military documents that he leaked. Woah, that's a lot to take in. So let's break things down for you. 4 essential questions, 1 Simblified Shortie. 1. Are Wikileaks and Wikipedia the same thing? (spoiler alert: No) 2. Are Wikileaks & Anonymous the same thing? 3. Are Julian Assange & Edward Snowden the same person or colleagues or… Friends? 4. Does Wikileaks still exist? NEW TO SIMBLIFIED? You've probably seen THAT photograph. So, why are black holes so important? Why's this fuzzy little picture of some distant faraway thingummy sending scientists and all those smart people into a frenzy? Well, it's complicated, but thankfully the Simblified gang have watched several Youtube videos and attempt to explain it to you with some signature "humour". We look at how some Hydrogen atoms in outer space get really horny, get it on, form stars, which eventually implode and form black holes. These utterly fascinating things - which confounded even Einstein & Hawking - hold a lot of secrets to our universe. Join us and get enough fodder to make your next water cooler conversations awesome - you'll be saying things like "Heh, my appraisal was like an Event Horizon!" in no time. (Ok, maybe don't say that - we don't want your social life to be like what this episode is about). Some awesome videos on black holes you should check out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWO-cvGETRQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdySHadrYAA NEW TO SIMBLIFIED?
