Last episode of the season! Master Steph joins me again to talk all about narcissistic personality disorder (npd), and most importantly the scary real life effects of narcissistic abuse. It can have detrimental effects on the brain and one's mental health. As always we get into some lyrics to get the conversation started, so for this episode we talk Jhené Aiko's "Triggered (Freestyle)". I also played a tik tok made by Lee Hammock (@mentalhealness) to get into the topic of gaslighting, manipulation, and reactive abuse. We also talk about an article that was sent to me about a woman, Vanessa Reiser, who survived narcissistic domestic abuse, who is currently running a marathon in a wedding dress to bring awareness to the topic. Lots of info and important topics to wrap up the season!  Articles/Pages Referenced & Supplemental Info: Woman to Run 285 Miles in a Wedding Dress to Raise Awareness for Narcissistic Domestic Abuse Tik Tok 12 Signs You’ve Experienced Narcissistic Abuse (Plus How to Get Help) The Overt Versus Covert Narcissist: Both Suck Narcissistic Abuse: Signs, Effects, & Treatments Follow: IG/Twitter/Tik Tok @simpinafterdark Follow Ashley @ash_friday_ Go like "Simpin After Dark" playlist on Spotify by ashleyym91 Intro song - Lo-fi Type Beat - Dreaming (Prod. This episode is dedicated to all of the important things people need to talk about before moving in with their significant other. The lovely VAL, host of the Reflections with VAL. podcast, or Soulfully_VAL on instagram, joined me and blessed me with her experience and knowledge on the topic. Together we went over all the submitted tips people gave me on instagram and dove deep, because there was a lot. We touch on machismo, using babies/moving in together as a "quick fix" to save a relationship, boundaries with having visitors, cleanliness, date nights, splitting bills, personal space etc. As always we went on a few fun tangents talking about sex, the importance of getting to know your body as a woman and other related topics.  It wouldn't be S.A.D. if we didn't talk about some music so we had to get into WILLOW's new song "t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l" ft. Travis Barker. Tune in for all juicy convos! Always Ready For Your Love

2021-05-0601:01:28

This episode my girl Krystal joins me to talk about Charlotte Day Wilson's song "Take Care of You" ft Syd. It's another simpy one, this song is basically about being so passionately in love with someone who isn't ready for your love quite yet. We talk about how people should always give their all in a relationship even if you've been hurt before cause that's the only way you'll ever find real love again. The conversation takes some wild turns and we get into the topics of porn, masturbation, intimacy & sexual compatibility, dating while being bisexual/queer, staying friends with a friends ex after they break up & lots more! This episode I'm talking about Alex Mali's song, "Start It Up", from her 2019 EP, Sweet & Sour. Joining me today is the talented Ivan Leon, who is a creative director in Los Angeles. He came through with some wisdom and we had a blast talking about the many facets and current state of dating culture. He's an Aquarius & I'm a Virgo so we get into our similarities and differences when it comes to questions like - Is omitting info the same as lying? How to tell if someone actually likes u or just wants to mess with u? Can it work if family doesn't like u? When is it too soon to tag someone you're dating on Instagram? Should you be loyal in the talking stage? We also answer some listener submitted questions together so tune in to hear us get into this and lots more! Nightshade Collective joins me once again for a fun episode talking about Yo Trane's song, "Rider" from his 2021 album Time & Space. April & Alexa chime in on the topic of being an "alpha" woman - being independent, making your own money, being outspoken, not taking anyone's bullsh**. A woman who is independent is idealized in so many ways but in reality a lot of people can't handle it. We also talk about being the "naggy" partner and why it's misconstrued and actually a good thing. Then we dive into the dreaded topic of submitting to your partner in a relationship, what it actually means, the benefits, and things to look out for. Leadership is important in a relationship so we talk about that and finding the balance between maintaining independence but still achieving unity. I got a solo episode today and I'm talking about Numi's song "Hit Me Up", from 2018. We all know those guys that won't take no for an answer that keep asking you out, so you finally give in but you let them know it's just as friends, and they STILL get the wrong idea. Or the guy that slides in you and all your girls DM's thinking that's the move. Some men cannot read social cues, so that's what I'm talking about today, cause someone needs to help them. I also get into a tweet that went viral last week about "friendship dates". It was messy so I break it down and give my thoughts. I did a poll on my IG about people who say they're not ready to be in a relationship, and if the "with you" is silent, so I cover the results. Then I respond to a listener's question about when is it too soon to say "I love you" and if it's necessary to say it everyday. Tune in to hear all this and more! I Pray You Catch Me

I Pray You Catch Me

2021-04-0801:23:33

This episode is all about cheating and staying together. It happens more often than we think, yet it's still frowned upon and shamed, but we don't judge over here, so we're talking about how to make that work, why it happens, and when you should or shouldn't give it a shot. Not all cheaters are created equal so this is not to normalize it at all, but more to give some insight into what it takes and how much work is required to make it to the other side in a healthy way. My guests Ailec & Ayvione are a couple who dealt with cheating in the past and today their relationship is strong with the communication, and they came through with lots of great advice about the growth and emotions they went through together. As always, we talk music, and what better album to talk about than Beyonce's "Lemonade", specifically "Pray You Catch me"? Good Day in My Mind

2021-03-2501:02:59

Warning: We discuss certain drugs in this episode, not to promote their irresponsible or illegal use, but to educate and inform people of responsible hypothetical consumption. This episode I'm talking magic mushrooms & weed, with my girls April Mendoza (my sis) & Master Stephanie. We get into SZA's latest single, "Good Days", and talk all about our experience with shrooms, weed, mental health, staying present, spirituality, psychosis, etc. Steph mentions how important it is to be aware of the drugs u consume and doing research beforehand, especially if you're combining them. Certain drugs can have horrible reactions together and even cause death, whether they're prescription or natural substances. We also talk about how crucial it is to do everything in your life with intention and purpose, specifically mushrooms since they can be so helpful in being introspective and pushing you to come face to face with your inner thoughts and feelings. The relationship we have with ourselves and our inner most demons is a crucial one, and learning healthy detachment is helpful in dealing with heartbreak and accepting the end of a relationship. Continued growth is vital to our happiness and the ultimate goal is to learn to be present and at peace in our minds, so make sure to tune in and hear how "Good Days" gets us feelin. That's My Best Friend

2021-03-1839:57

This episode is all about friendships, and I'm talking about the song "Girl", by Destiny's Child, with my girls Alexa & Crystal. The song focuses on Beyoncé and Michelle trying to get Kelly to open up to them about her relationship because they can see it's bringing her down. We've all been on both sides of that situation as friends so we talk about how we handle situations like that and how people shouldn't go about it. We also touch on the importance of having solid friends, how we handle falling outs w friends, having friends of the opposite sex while in a relationship, and making friends.  IG/Twitter/Tik Tok @simpinafterdark Ashley's IG @ash_friday_ Alexas IG @alexajanel Crystal's IG @crytsalsheeer Go like "Simpin After Dark" playlist on Spotify ! Got another solo episode for you today I'm talking about Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars' new song, "Leave The Door Open". They formed a group, Silk Sonic and they are on their funky, soulful, simpy sh*t so u know I had to get into it. I recorded this episode on international women's day btw so I also went on a tangent about women supremacy and how some of you men don't deserve us cause u ain't doing enough. Had to rant about feminism & the  patriarchy for a second so bare with me I just needed to get it off my chest. I also comment on a poll I did a few weeks ago about how relationships don't work unless the man loves the woman more than she loves him, cuz I fully support that, and Rihanna's grandma said it so it must be a fact. I go on a few tangents so make sure to listen cuz I got some opinions for y'all today.  IG/Twitter/Tik Tok @simpinafterdark Go like "Simpin After Dark" playlist on Spotify ! Today I'm talking Chloe x Halle's song "Tipsy" from their album Ungodly Hour, w my special guest Naz Red. He talks about his experience being love bombed and dealing with some crazy a** women, and how we sometimes miss huge red flags. We talk about how the older we get the less shit we're willing to put up with and how dedication to your career can sometimes mean putting your love life on hold. Also, do better looking women get away with being more crazy? How early is too early to make the "don't break my heart or I'll kill you" joke? The list of topics goes on, it's a fun one so tune in now! TRIGGER WARNING: Self harm/Physical & emotional abuse/Suicide This episode I have April Mendoza and Alexa Morales (my Nightshade Collective sisters) on to get into some wild topics. We talk all about the new Netflix movie, "Malcolm and Marie" starring Zendaya and John David Washington, which, in short, is about a couple having a crazy a** fight, so SPOILER ALERT. We tie it all together by getting into Raveena's song, "If Only", which is about her getting out of an abusive relationship, reflecting on it, and dealing with the aftermath. Me and the girls reflect on our own manipulative ways and experiences with fights that turn into a toxic sh*tshow. With this movie and this song, we got A LOT to say between the 3 of us so make sure to listen now to hear our different perspectives.  IG/Twitter/Tik Tok @simpinafterdark Follow @nightshadecollective on IG & Tik Tok Go like "Simpin After Dark" playlist on Spotify ! Ain't Here For Love

Ain't Here For Love

2021-02-1853:01

This episode I talk CHIKA's song, "FWB", with my guest Stephanie. We've all either been involved in a friends with benefits situation or have contemplated it, so we discuss the factors that need to be considered. Sometimes people decide they want a FWB because of the timing and things goin on in their life, but sometimes they decide based on a predetermined criteria they have for potential partners vs f*ckbuddies. I asked my instagram followers on my story what their criteria is, so I went over all that with Stephanie and we talked about our own. We also talk about whether maybe some people aren't built for that life and how to navigate it if u do give it a go, so tune in for all the tips and tricks. Still My Baby

Still My Baby

2021-02-1129:53

I'm simpin alone tonight y'all, and of course I picked the saddest song ever, "Stuck On You", by Giveon. It's the last song on his EP, When It's All Said And Done, and it's all about that relationship you just can't bare to leave. It's that one relationship that is stuck in purgatory and you're too embarrassed to even tell your friends that you're still seeing that person. I think we've all been there at some point in our lives and hopefully you escaped that cycle cause it is like an addiction. I make sure to distinguish between a relationship gone sour, and an unhealthily toxic relationship, because there are definitely levels and there is hope for some but not all! Tune in for tips on moving forward from an argument, and a PSA to people who haven't asked their boo to be their Valentine yet. Love Me Like You Do

Love Me Like You Do

2021-02-0443:26

We're talking Ariana Grande's song "pov" from her 2020 album Positions. It's the last song on the album and it's the perfect culmination of her learning to love herself, radiating her sensual side, and continuing to accept love from another person fully without letting it define her or break her. In POV she's grateful for the love she's receiving from someone and she just wishes she could see herself through his point of view so that she can love and trust herself the same way. People always say that the hardest relationship you'll have is the healthy one after a toxic one. It leaves you feeling like maybe you're hard to love or not worthy of love, so learning to receive and accept it can be a battle. This song is all about believing someone can love you despite your flaws and how real love is supposed to lift you up and make you feel like a better person. Second half of the episode we review the poll results from our instagram so make sure to stick around and hear what we have to say about it! Heaux and Tell

2021-01-2801:42:33

For our season 3 opener we are diving all the way into Jazmine Sullivan's EP, Heaux Tales. It's such a cohesive body of work that it wouldn't have been fair to just pick one song. It gets into the complexities and struggles of being a woman which are all too relatable whether you're in your early or late twenties, thirties, or even sixties and beyond. We touch on all the controversial and highly debated topics of using sex appeal to bag a rich dude, financial standards while dating, hoeing and being reckless to cope with the remorse of messing up a good relationship, and more. Of course we also talk about the repercussions of all those things and the effects it has on everyone as a society. Tune in and hear all the juicy things we got to say about it all! You already know we love Kehlani on Simpin After Dark so we had to do her  song "Open(Passionate)" from her amazing album, It Was Good Until It Wasn't. We also have a special guest for this episode! Zoey Trope, a relationship coach specializing in polyamory, takes our phone call and answers all our questions about the topic. We asked our listeners on instagram to send us questions to ask so we got right to it. We cover everything from common misconceptions, jealousy, communication, boundaries, hierarchy, terminology, sex and STI safe practices, and so much more. Make sure to follow @LAPolyamory & @LAPolyPersonals on instagram to checkout any upcoming events, and all the great things she is doing for the community and for anyone who is considering it. Kehlani's song is all about the question of whether she should consider an open relationship being that her and her man are doing the long distance thing, and they're both around a lot of temptation. She is being real with herself and wondering if maybe their relationship is too vague or maybe too vulnerable to transition into an open relationship. There's a lot to unpack so make sure to listen cause we get into a lot this episode, it's such a good one!   IG/Twitter @simpinafterdark Go like our "Simpin After Dark" playlist on Spotify ! This episode we're talking all about astrology with our girl Alexa. We picked Beyonce's song "Signs" from her album Dangerously in Love, just as a fun recap of all 12 signs. We briefly get into every sign's modality, element and traits. We also talk about body parts the signs rule and what planets they're ruled by and how it can affect them. Alexa explains how astrology can be used as a tool to help anyone from people in romantic relationships, friendships, family, to self reflection and growth. A really important part of learning about astrology is discovering your own natal chart and learning to understand it. Once you know what sign your planets are in, and what those planets rule, you can start diving into synastry. People usually look up sun signs when trying to see compatibility between them and a partner, but there are actually planets that are way more important to look at so make sure to listen to the episode to hear what we think about it. This episode we're talking about Melii's song "See Me" from her album phAses. We also had our friend Mayron on as a guest to chime in from a dude's perspective. We talk all about being lowkey hurt by someone but trying to front on social media like you're not. Sometimes it's obvious to the other person and we know this yet we still do it. Sometimes we do it because it's part of the healing process. Mayron tells us his experience with being ghosted and the struggles of the single life and dealing with people who aren't up front. Sometimes we have to be drunk to spill how we really feel, but are drunk words sober thoughts? We also talk missed booty calls, the total opposite state of mind between guys and girls during sex, thirst traps, and lots of other juicy topics.
