DIY Kitchen Improvements ANYONE Can Make!

Free challenge: https://simplyconvivial.com/octoberMaking kitchen life joyful! Identify a common complaint you have about your kitchen. Replace it with a written, related statement of gratitude. The kitchen sink is obnoxiously small and shallow. Now, the observation that the sink is small and shallow, especially compared to the sink I had before, is simply a fact. What makes it a complaint is when I make this observation out of irritation, as if I deserved better or can’t work under such oppressive circumstances. I add the drama. I am provoked.  So, here’s my written gratitude statement: The kitchen sink might be inconvenient, but I’m so glad there’s a utility sink just a few feet away in the laundry room where I can wash and soak large pots and pans. What a blessing!Mystie Winckler encourages moms to organize their attitudes and get traction at home so we are no longer overwhelmed or frustrated with homemaking. THE EASIEST Kitchen Organization Hacks You Need Now

Kitchen cleaning week! Join the free challenge: https://simplyconvivial.com/octoberOur goal in working in our kitchen needs to not be about giving it a beige-linen aesthetic, but rather about keeping it functional. Even in a small kitchen, there are many areas to focus on. By choosing one area to work in consistently, we can make visible progress.I recommend making this focus area the sink area. Every kitchen has it, and it’s where the most repetitions must be put in - every time we cook or eat, dishes get dirty and need to be cleaned and then put away. That’s a lot of action. It makes a huge difference to our routines as homemakers when the most used areas have a bit more order and attention.First, start by washing all the dishes in and around your sink. Mystie Winckler encourages moms to organize their attitudes and get traction at home so we are no longer overwhelmed or frustrated with homemaking. STOP Complaining about Your Kitchen! Do THIS Instead!

Kitchen cleaning week! Join the free challenge: https://simplyconvivial.com/octoberSo instead of just randomly cleaning whatever catches our eye, let’s take a minute to examine our space and our needs. Then we’ll be able to make smart choices for what to clean and where to focus our limited chore time. Now, I’d love to give the litany of improvements I *wish* I could make, but we’re going to stick with what’s actually feasible and “on my paper” or “in my lane.” I need to declutter the fridge front and spend 5-10 minutes putting more order in the pantry. The key with this prompt is to not go into critical mode, but rather problem-solving mode.Mystie Winckler encourages moms to organize their attitudes and get traction at home so we are no longer overwhelmed or frustrated with homemaking. Being a Happy Homemaker in a House You Don’t Love

FREE Bust out of Burnout Bingo Challenge - https://simplyconvivial.com/bingoHomemaking in an apartment or rental house can be disheartening. It's easy to be discontent in small spaces and in a place you don't own and can't change. But it's important, still, to be an engaged homemaker, even in less-than-ideal circumstances. In a world where we see idealized photos of white-and-beige kitchens wherever we turn, how do we then step into our 30-year-old, not-updated, cramped kitchen and remain content? It’s a question worth asking – and answering.I am truly grateful for this time in temporary housing at a phase of life where it’s easy to feel like we’re entitled only to upgrades. We’re past the season where we rough it to gain equity, aren’t we?Is there really a season where we judge how we’re doing by how nice our house is?I love talking about both homemaking and education because both are lifelong pursuits. How to be a great homemaker

Take Humble Habits: https://simplyconvivial.com/humble-habitsIf you follow homemaking blogs and YouTube channels these days, it’s easy to get the impression that what you need to be a great homemaker is to make sourdough, slowly sweep your house in silence and natural light, and decorate your table with candles you made yourself and flowers you cut from your yard. That’s the picture of fulfilled, amazing homemaking. There’s nothing wrong with any of those things, of course, but none of them are required to be a great homemaker. One thing, however, is required.Hi! I’m Mystie Winckler, author of Simplified Organization, Learn to Love What Must Be Done. In my book, I share how to be a confident, capable, cheerful homemaker - and I never once mention bread-baking, sewing, fermenting, or keeping chickens. The six skills I lay out have nothing to do with handicrafts and everything to do with your attitude and basic ability to handle real life. That’s what I want to talk about today, so grab a basket of laundry to fold and let’s dig in.Mystie Winckler encourages moms to organize their attitudes and get traction at home so we are no longer overwhelmed or frustrated with homemaking. FIVE keys to plan your homeschool year round

Audit your own homeschool: https://simplyconvivial.com/audit5 tips to plan your year round homeschool schedule:1. Make your plan - either choose how many weeks your school year will be (and the state doesn’t decide that - you do!) and check them off as you go, taking breaks as needed OR start by marking your Christmas break, then schedule backward up into September working in your breaks and then start again in January and work forward, marking in determined breaks until you want the school year to be complete. How to homeschool year round: https://simplyconvivial.com/2020/year-round-homeschooling/My favorite curriculum resources: https://simplyconvivial.com/2020/kindergarten-homeschool-curriculum/Art of Homeschool eCourse: https://simplyconvivial.com/art-of-homeschooling/My best homeschool checklist tips: https://simplyconvivial.com/2018/homeschool-checklist-routine/2. Plan a fun rest day with your kids during break week, even if it’s just a park day with a coffee and a book. 3. Keep a running list during your school weeks of things you wish you had time to do, but don’t. It will collect up, but you’re intentionally postponing, not procrastinating, because you’re prioritizing education. Evaluate, pick what’s important from that list, and get some of those things done during break week - choose 1-2 days to dedicate to that4. Take 1-2 hours during break week to clean out the kids’ school bins, straighten the books, find the pencils, and evaluate if you need to make adjustments to the checklist formats or workload.5. Put homeschool on your list of top 3 weekly things and your top three daily things. Write a daily and weekly top 3 so you focus and prioritize and COUNT IT when you homeschool. It’s a vocation, a duty, a job - put in the hours without resentment. Check it off and be satisfied that you educated the children, even if there were math tears, even if your time got thrown off by parenting, even if dinner was just a quick and simple affair.
