The name has changed, the flavor remains the same.
This episode is the start of a three part series about several common analogies that we use in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Analogies are more than just poetic language, they are powerful tools that help people make sense of the world. Exploring them is often a valuable exercise. This first episode will be about BJJ as physical chess, the second episode will be about the ground as an ocean, and the third episode will be about matches as dialogues. Thank you for listening, I hope you enjoy! The intro music is “Funky Butts” by Texasradiofish.
How does JT teach his favorite takedowns? How does he scout opponents? What are the staples of his sneaker collection? The answers to these questions and more can be found in this episode of The BJJ Tap podcast. Please enjoy the second half of my interview with JT Torres, and thank you for listening. The intro music is: Funky Butts by texasradiofish (c) copyright 2015 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial (3.0) license. http://dig.ccmixter.org/files/texasradiofish/48710 Ft: Admiral Bob, Jeris, Martijn de Boer
There are levels to this game, and Jonathan “JT” Torres has repeatedly demonstrated that he is at the top of the grappling food chain. JT is a two-time ADCC champion, he is the youngest American BJJ black belt, he recently opened a thriving BJJ school in Hartsdale NY, and he married his long-time girlfriend the weekend before this interview. We discuss these topics and more during the first half of this candid interview, please enjoy and subscribe. The intro music is: Funky Butts by texasradiofish (c) copyright 2015 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial (3.0) license. http://dig.ccmixter.org/files/texasradiofish/48710 Ft: Admiral Bob, Jeris, Martijn de Boer
The first half of this episode presents a reliable approach to developing gameplans for competition. In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, matches are won by the grappler who is able to make the best decisions under great stress. Gameplans are the key to making great grappling decisions. In the second half of this episode I tell the story of the first time that I got choked unconscious in competition. The intro music is: Funky Butts by texasradiofish (c) copyright 2015 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial (3.0) license. http://dig.ccmixter.org/files/texasradiofish/48710 Ft: Admiral Bob, Jeris, Martijn de Boer
This episode explores the ways that the tap shapes our training experience. The second portion of this episode is a review of the Motion Master Grappling Dummy sold by Revgear and designed Eric Paulson. The gear review wanders off into a discussion about solo training methods. The intro music is: Funky Butts by texasradiofish (c) copyright 2015 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial (3.0) license. http://dig.ccmixter.org/files/texasradiofish/48710 Ft: Admiral Bob, Jeris, Martijn de Boer
This episode presents the idea that there are only two types of takedowns in the grappling world, the “Push & Trip” takedowns and the “Lift & Dump” takedowns. The episode wraps up with a story about Kerri Kennison pulling off an unlikely technique and tapping her opponent in the overtime rounds. The intro music is: Funky Butts by texasradiofish (c) copyright 2015 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial (3.0) license. http://dig.ccmixter.org/files/texasradiofish/48710 Ft: Admiral Bob, Jeris, Martijn de Boer
