This week was totally dominated by the Budget, with this week's Small Cap Value Reports (on Stockopedia) giving extensive coverage & interesting reader comments debating the pros & cons. Overall, I think the removal of uncertainty in many areas now allows businesses and individuals to plan ahead again, and I'm positive on the potential for an autumn/winter recovery in small caps, which often starts around this time of year.As usual, nothing is advice, these are just my personal opinions, which are sometimes right, and sometimes wrong - because nobody can reliably predict the future! Press reporting suggests a substantial hike in employers NICs could be announced on this coming Wed 30 Oct's budget. I crunch some numbers, which demonstrate that retail and especially hospitality could be facing significant falls in profit, hence maybe best avoided until the dust has settled?Expect carnage if they cut AIM's IHT exemption, or a big rebound if they don't! Place your bets ...Lots of companies reporting again, with 5 profit warnings, 8 GREENs (things we like the most), and 7 AMBER/GREENs (moderately positive). As always, please remember I'm only giving my personal, fallible opinions here. You must do your own more detailed research, and not rely on my views, as they will sometimes be right, but sometimes wrong, and nobody knows what the future holds. Hosted on Acast. Sorry this is a week late. I rattle through 51 companies reporting between 14-18 Oct 2024. As always we find some potentially interesting ideas (remember we're only doing quick reviews, you need to do your own much more detailed research, hence why nothing is recommendations, just quick opinions). We're all waiting for the Budget, in case investors get clobbered. If not as bad as feared, then hopefully we could see buyers snap up UK small cap bargains. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
I have a good rant about "trading updates" that don't even state if the company is ahead/in line/below market expectations. We need clearer, more honest reporting, not increased PR obfuscation! As always, my work is independent (my opinions cannot be bought!), but also fallible, since we cover so much ground and might not necessarily spot all the detail. Hence it is essential that you must do your own more detailed research. Our opinions are just that, they are never advice, nor recommendations, and are subject to change when the facts change, as they frequently do. Hosted on Acast. Usual stuff! My personal opinions only, never advice. As we wait for the Budget on 30/10/2024 AIM seems wobbly. 7 profit warnings this week. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Sorry it's so long, but there was masses of stuff to cover! As usual these are just my personal, strictly independent opinions. I don't take any money from any listed companies, as my views are not for sale! Please always do your own more detailed research, because our views are certainly not infallible, and we only do quick reviews. Also we're not time travellers from the future, so we don't know what the future holds, it's just guesswork for everyone. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Lots of brief comments, due to the sheer volume of H1 results out this week. A few little gems buried in the mass of mostly "in line" performance. As always, just my personal opinions, never advice, as you must do your own more detailed research. Hosted on Acast. Another rapid summary of all the week's main small & mid caps news. Why I'm bullish on UK stocks. Please remember all my stuff is opinions only, not advice, and you must do your own research! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
My usual weekly recap on the Small Cap Value Reports, written by me & Graham Neary, only on Stockopedia. As usual we never give advice, these are purely our personal opinions, which change as the facts change over time. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
My usual weekly recap on small/mid cap results & trading updates. Remember these are only my personal opinions, never advice or recommendations. No rants this week, as nobody has pissed me off particularly! (that's a first!!) Hunting (HTG) is my favourite share of the week (I hold), looking a decent, quality growth company, on a modest valuation, and with a lovely balance sheet too. The mgt IMC webinar was an excellent briefing on what they do, worth watching the recording.I expect we're now coming to the end of the quiet summer period, so we're bracing for a deluge of updates in Sept.I also ponder if the widely anticipated attacks on savers & pensions from the Labour Govt (with it's incredibly poorly judged messaging of impending doom) might be harming markets by incentivising investors to cash out at a lower CGT rate? My usual weekly roundup of our Stockopedia reports. Plus a few macro factors, which all look encouraging to me.And a rant about one of our (few) resident clowns who has resurfaced and irritated me in the comments section LOL!I continue to see a positive autumn outlook for UK small/mid caps, but as always, anything could happen.Just my views, never advice - so please always do your own research (DYOR). Roland and Graham did a lot of the work this week, as I took 2 days off for a funeral of a lovely old friend from my Southampton days, Andy Symonds - one of the kindest, most supportive, loyal, funny, and likeable people I've ever had the good fortune to be part of my life.Back to work now though. As usual we found some interesting share ideas to fling at you for further research. As always, we never recommend - we just come up with some ideas, for you to do proper, detailed research on. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

A somewhat sorter podcast this week, as I'm away in Washington DC, meeting my American cousins (literally!) for the first time. Excellent podcasts well recommended. CEO interviews are particularly informing.
