Special Guest: Geneva Wilgus. Geneva M Wilgus is a 20 year old college student from Mid-Coast Maine who took a year off (or year "on") between her sophomore and junior years of college to volunteer internationally. Geneva now lives and volunteers at a home for girls in Darlag, Qinghai Province, Tibet Autonomous Region. She arrived in China on March 10, and will depart for the States on June 8. Geneva is a graduate of Brunswick High School, Brunswick, Maine, Class 2006, attended Cedarville University, Cedarville, Ohio for two years as a Political Communications major, and was an active member of the Debate Team, Student Government Association, and was the founder and president of the Cedarville University College Democrats. Geneva also chaired the Junior/Senior Event Committee, was the Secretary/Treasurer of Delta Pi Sigma and wrote for the Campus Newspaper, CEDARS. Geneva will be transferring to Goddard College, Vermont, in Fall 2009 to pursue a MA in English. While planning and fundraising for her Tibet project, Geneva worked as a substitute teacher for the Brunswick School Department, and coached Brunswick's Policy and Public Forum Debate Teams. She also volunteered with Rick Wilson and the Brunswick High School Service Learning Classes as a mentor and guide to students individual projects and as an organizer for key events like Career Day. Geneva also was a part of a budding non-profit link organization, Apsirations, between the area high schools and the reputable liberal arts school, Bowdoin College. Aspirations is a Bowdoin College student-run organization geared towards supplementing the high school guidance counselor and steering high school kids towards healthy and profitable post-secondary decisions.
