Description
Welcome to a brand new podcast about the cultural phenomenon of widespread disappointment.
Throughout this series we will investigate a vast array of subjects including Morrissey, The Phantom Menace, corrupt spiritual leaders, the modern-day Labour Party, aliens, and the 2016 celebrity death cull.
And that's just the tip of the disappointing iceberg.
In each episode we'll ask: why are we so invested in people and things to the extent that we can be angered when they let us down? Why do we care?
We'll be talking to you, the listener, about your greatest disappointments. We'll also reach out to psychologists, journalists, researchers and other specialists to learn as much as we can about this fascinating subject – a subject we can all relate to.

In this episode we’re looking at 2016, a profoundly disappointing year in which the Grim Reaper culled as many beloved celebrities as they could, while also finding time to oversee Britain’s disastrous exit from the European Union and the first inauguration of unending human failure President Donald Trump.
Was David Bowie the anchor being who stabilised our universe? Did the end of the world start here? And why did Generation Z come together over the tragic death of a silverback gorilla? All these questions and more will be answered.

In this episode we’ll be discussing Morrissey, an artist whose forthright opinions have, for many, tarnished his reputation beyond repair.
What happens when someone who once spoke so eloquently for sensitive outsiders starts espousing views which offend and anger those people? Can we separate the art from the artist? Or is time to bid farewell to them and their work?

In 1999, a low-budget 'found footage' horror film called The Blair Witch Project became a pop culture sensation. It was hyped as one of the most frightening films ever made, and for many it lived up to that hype. But for others it was a massive disappointment - a whole load of fuss about nothing.
In this episode we examine the sharply divided response to the film and delve into the complex, fascinating details of why psychological horror works for some people, while leaving others cold.
Our guests include film critics Eddie Harrison and Lucia Minoz, and musician Kat Orr. Click the links below to enjoy more of their work.
