Description

Welcome to So This is Love, a podcast about love, the loss of love, heartbreak and the meeting of self. We share stories on how the relationships we once had teach us about who we are and define who we become. And maybe through these stories, we can answer that age old question; is it better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all?

Website: https://tuwork.co.ke/In this week’s episode of So This Is Love, we meet Sheila, a bright and eloquent twenty-something-year-old with the kind of wisdom that grief carves into bone. She tells the story of Jackie, her mother, a woman who made impossible choices in the name of survival but left her daughter unprotected in the hands of a man who wore the title of father like a disguise.Sheila speaks of silence; the kind that settles in childhood and alters the core of naivety. Of betrayal that came not just once, but many times, layered in religion and shame. Of a girl who tried to be believed. Of a woman who became her own witness. This is not a story of blame—it is a story of longing. For safety. For truth. For a version of love that doesn’t hurt. And in all of it, Sheila remains open-hearted. Determined to heal. Determined not to pass down the violence she was handed. This is one of the most powerful stories we have ever told.Consider supporting this podcast via our mpesa till number 9095819 or PayPal sothisislovepodcastke@gmail.comIf you or someone you know is affected by domestic or sexual violence, find support here: https://www.instagram.com/s/aGlnaGxpZ2h0OjE3ODUzNDUyODYyMzIwNDA3?igsh=eXkyNWRmZW1lenh5

Florence & Juniour - S4 | E5

2024-11-2101:50:0023

Today, I sit down with Florence—a woman whose story is as heartbreaking as it is revealing. Raised in a turbulent home, Florence sought love in all the wrong places, leading to a relationship with Junior that teetered between desperation and dysfunction. She struggled with her mental health, self-image, and the echoes of a childhood marked by conflict. Her actions were at times harmful, but they were rooted in pain. As Florence shares her story, the lines between victim and aggressor blur, reminding us of the complexities of the human experience. Through Florence’s narration, we explore the duality of love, loss and the lingering shadows of the past all while asking ourselves this conflicting question, can someone be both wounded and responsible for wounding others? Welcome to Season 2! In this episode, Wanja meets George and despite caution from her friends, falls head over heels in that all-too-familiar, typical, teenage romance kind of way. In an effort to solidify the relationship, Wanja compromises on a number of her morals and boundaries. Her love for George stands unshaken even after a lack of clear commitment and thereafter discovering she is pregnant. We cannot help but empathize with Wanja as she fights hard not to repeat what seems to be a generational misfortune when the issue of paternity arises. Those were two wounded parents who were abusing a child they brought into this world. And yeah, I do agree, it is important to know God for ourselves. Peace, love and healing to you. Thanks Jules for highlighting such stories.

May I say that the therapist's move to send the girl to have a conversation with someone who invalidated her feelings was a little dumb? I mean ofcourse the mother knew her daughter had been abused and just chose to be selfish for whichever reasons. Counsellors ought to focus on their clients and validate their feelings even if no one does. I do not understand the goal the counsellor at that point.

I loved this episode! It was raw and honest, our childhood truly shapes our outlook on life and love. No one is perfect but we can always learn and unlearn from traumatic experiences. I believe love should be a life skill and it should be taught at an early age. It's interesting to see how men and women are socialized differently when it comes to love and relationships. Thank you Jules 😊
