In this podcast, I dive deep with successful professionals from every music genre to uncover what it truly means to dedicate their lives to music. It may seem glamorous and amazing from the outside, but the reality is far more complex. Being a musician isn’t just about playing instruments, singing, or writing songs—it’s about everything else! There’s a vast world to navigate, from managing personal relationships and tackling the business side of music to balancing family life and maintaining mental health. Join me as I explore these challenges and more, revealing the true journey of a musician.

Greetings everyone! I am happy to bring you episode 3 of my podcast and my guest is the incredible ‪Paul Gilbert. While on the road with the guys, it made it a bit easier to sit down before a soundcheck and record and yes, Eric will be a guest on the show as well. Everyone has such interesting ways to answer some of the same questions, which I love. I hope you do too. Paul Gilbert is truly an amazing musician and student of the craft. He has an easygoing demeanor and his own unique way of looking at things in life and the music business. His dedication to his instrument is amazing and you can't help getting inspired by being around him. I have been blessed to be on the road with Mr. Big for almost a year and Paul, Billy, and Eric go all out every night on stage. It doesn't matter how big the gig is. The audience gets 100%. In this episode I get Paul's take on happiness, how he's navigated the music biz, how music has affected his personal relationships/family, and he even plays a few riffs! It is not unusual for Paul to have his guitar with him all the time :) I hope you enjoy this episode and join me again in a couple of weeks for episode 4. Cheers! #nickdvirgilio #ndv #paulgilbert #soyouwanttobeamusician? #podcast #happiness
Greetings everyone! I am excited to bring you episode 2 of this podcast because we now get started talking to guests and in this episode, I sit down with a legend in rock and roll, Billy Sheehan. It helps that I am in the band Mr. Big because I get to hang out with Billy almost every day on the road and finding a time to record this podcast was not too difficult. Billy has done just about everything there is to do in the music business. From his early days back in Buffalo, New York with his band Talas, being in David Lee Roth's first band right after he left Van Halen, to starting Mr Big and having a number 1 hit record. Plus fantastic other bands like The Winery Dogs, Sons Of Apollo, Niacin, and more. He has thousands of gigs under his belt, he has toured the world many times, he's made tons of records, and recorded for tons of artists, he is an educator and a real student of the craft. Nobody plays the bass like Billy Sheehan and he knows what it takes to make a life in music. Cheers
I am very excited to bring you this podcast. Episode number 1 is me...NDV. The reason for this is to set up what the podcast is all about. It will also give you an idea of what kinds of questions and topics I will be bringing up with the artists that join me, and give you my take on those topics.  I have been blessed to have had a long career in the music business and I have gone through a lot to get to where I am today. Navigating personal relationships, family dynamics, business, my own doubts and misgivings, and so much more. It can be a wild ride playing music for a living. The actual music is only one part of the whole picture.  In this first episode I talk about how my career has put my marriage to the test. I give tips and advice on how to deal with the uglier side of the music business. I talk about the only time I've even been fired from a gig and more.  If you are thinking of making music your life's work, or if you just like to hear about what it is like on the inside, then I hope you will join me for this first episode and then every other Tuesday. Every artist has their own story, attitudes, and desires. It is fascinating to hear.
