So there's actually a therapist out there who refuses to perpetuate her patients' victim mentality! That's good news. I hope there are others. And kudos to her for hearing it and course correcting.

I'm so sorry for what was done to you, and hope you're healing. On a separate note, your city wanted to defund the police. Well, actions and demands for just that have consequences.

what is this maternity care crisis? I had Medicaid during ALL 3 of my pregnancies. I had GREAT care. surprisingly the best birth was in a VERY small town in Oregon. In a hospital. I thank God I had my babies in the hospital. my first 2 were transverse and my last one almost killed me. so it's just up to preference I think. Now, my daughter's experience was a bit different. She was just 17 and was treated crap I think. How bout we bring that up.

good episode. "unwanted treatment" often includes episiotomies; a birthing position that is basically unnatural but convenient for doctors; denial of food and water during labor even though there is no medical reason and it is actually bad for the mother during a long labor; and as mentioned, restricted movement even though this is also bad for the mother and is proven to make labor more painful. I still think you should cover some hospital birthing horror stories to do this topic real justice.

this has totally freaked me out. I had a traumatic birth in hospital, the only place I'd be with pre eclampsia. We had an emergency c section and I had a haemorrhage of over 2 litres. My mum was a midwife. In Australia, midwives are trained registered nurses, that then specialise in Midwifery after their qualification. This adds extra University time to their training. Only after this is complete can they work as a midwife in a hospital.

Initially thought this was an interesting podcast that covered important & not regularly spoken about topics, especially issues affecting underserved communities of women. Lost me when they seemed to not hold storytellers accountable for ANY of their own decisions & choices. It seemed, sadly, that many (not all) storytellers were more concerned w/superficial elements of PN care & didn't dig deeper than essential oils & IG pics. The nail in the coffin.. "Birthing People". Some of the commercials are unbearable. I love the content, but the speaker's mouth sounds wet. I stopped listening to season one because of that, but it's the same in season two.

This whole story is so sad 😞 my sisters and I use a birth center local to our community and it was life changing going there instead of the hospital. How freeing and amazing it was to get back to our ancestral roots of birthing…. I feel bad saying this but this gal is making like no sense. I understand it was not a good birth and that sucks but a lot of the issues she’s saying with origins is very normal post partem things you go through. Kinda lost me on this one 😞

to do actual justice to this topic, some hospital birthing horror stories should be explored. Just how do you think we have our disproportionately high maternal and newborn death rate? Just who do you think is responsible?
