Episode 148: WrestleMania X-Seven
What a crazy month for Vince McMahon. The XFL is tanking and NBC wants out of the deal, Jerry Lawler walked out, ECW files for bankruptcy, Paul Heyman needs a job, Vince has a meltdown on HBO, he acquires WCW, and oh by the way he's about to put on the biggest WrestleMania ever! Bruce and Conrad dig into all of these moving parts going on behind the scenes before what will be the most financially successful WrestleMania ever up until that point setting records in nearly every category. The show would feature a crazy hardcore match people remember to this day, the crazy McMahon family story, an unreal match between Benoit and Angle, perhaps one of the silliest battle royals in WWE history, the tag team match that created a highlight reel by itself and set the standard for TLCs to come, and a match between the two biggest icons in the business at the time with an ending that changed everything. The guys break down the business aspect of the show, the creative, and the regrets coming out of the show. Episode 147: WrestleMania X
WrestleMania X marked the return to Madison Square Garden, where it all began nine years earlier. But this WrestleMania was different. Vince McMahon was in the fight of his life with the steroid trial, the business was much in transition where it had taken a dip, and this was the very first WrestleMania without Hulk Hogan. How did the trial effect his view of WrestleMania? Did it effect his booking of this show or his creativity in general? After the company took a dip in 1993, what did they change to return to profitability in 1994? How did Vince receive the news of Hogan negotiating with WCW? Did Vince consider working something out for Hogan to appear at this show? What was the deal with all of the celebrities? Bruce answers all of these questions before adding tidbits we've never heard before like Bret wanted to beat Owen, why Vince introduced Luger as World Champion at a house show, the finish of Savage-Crush, the backup plan if the ladder broke for Razor and Shawn, and so much more! Come along as we go back in time 25 years to revisit WRESTLEMANIA X!TONIGHT! Eric Bischoff, Tony Schiavone, and Conrad Thompson present the first ever joint 83 Weeks and What Happened When live show in Chicago. It was Conrad's beard rubbing on his apple ear pods and his coat as he was in Vegas at the time and just recorded it on his phone. Says they just won't do a show next time if they're too busy. See what complaining gets you...no show.

Jonathan Hudgins Honestly if it's going to sound like that every week I'd stop listening anyway

is it just me or does it seem like the last six months of episode, while they're still great and informative. It kind of seems like a repeat. what I mean is, if you go back to the first episodes listen for a while... It's like they were giving you really really deep backstage new things you never knew the things you really wanted to know! lately in these six months it kind of seems like it's just a recap of things we already know feelings that we could probably tell the wrestler sad nothing deep insubstantial

As an 80s/90s WWF fan I love this podcast. I'm a big fan of Conrad and Bruce. They do a great job. My only issue is that Bruce has now got his just back with WWE he won't be able to say such controversial things. I am therefore worried that we have seen the best days of this podcast. I'd definitely recommend checking the archive for some amazing episodes though

In happy for Bruce, back where he belongs. I watch the current product and I think it will definitely improve not he is back and as for the length of the podcast, I'm just happy we are still getting weekly episodes.

Gees only an hour and a half? I thought for a WM that changed the course of wrestling y'all would go more into detail.

bruce cant dedicate as much time to the podcast anymore. im happy for him but sad that we wont be getting quality shows anymore. 83 weeks and WHW are not as good as STW

Just a hour on a wrestlemania? I don't see this podcast lasting much longer now that Bruce is in WWE again. Last few months have been very meh.

I was wondering why Conrad didn't sound interested in this at all especially at the beginning? I love something to wrestle with ever since the first episode. They were kind of like the bad boys of the wrestling podcast world. And it's slowly starting to change it seems like

I want to get into this episode but i can't because conrad is faking it. idk what happened in his personal life or whatever it may be but he shouldn't be acting like that on a RECORDED PODCAST. He doesn't owe us anything. i get that. just hard to listen when i know your not into it.
