RE-RELEASECJ has lost both her parents. In this episode, she talks about her father, Michael, who passed away in July 2013 as she reflects on Father’s Day.While Michael was not her biological father, he filled a hole in her heart for a very long time and smoothed away at least some of the rough edges. They had a special relationship full of long talks and a lot of time spent together. Unfortunately, after a surprise call, CJ rushed home to be with him, and by the end of the week - he died. Michael had a tragically beautiful death in that he was able to choose what he wanted to do with his last days, and CJ, even still, can reflect on that beauty in the choice. We welcome your comments and feedback about the episode. RE-RELEASECJ speaks with B. Pagels-Minor (@bpagelsminor on Instagram and Twitter) about their mother, Suzi Anne Franklin who died in 2012 of complications from Epiglottitis, a swelling of the epiglottis which is a part of the mouth located near the back of the throat. This led to B. feeling as though they have much to accomplish in as little time as possible considering Suzi Anne died at the young age of 48. Dealing with their mother’s death, including the aftermath of a lawsuit with the hospital and the sort of normal business of death to close out the estate left B. feeling drained.B.’s new reality was that they were angrier and, in some ways, unable to cope with the pressures of their mother’s death for several years, but meeting their now wife and partner is what made them feel like they could and should move into a better space to address the feelings and emotions that come after a catastrophic loss.Resources:What is the Epiglottis? What is Epiglottitis? What are some treatments for EpiglottitisIf you ever need to complain or bring up an issue with your or your loved one’s medical careWhat is a health center? Darcy, a huge Harry Potter fan, speaks with CJ about her dad, William, who passed away from complications with prostate cancer.William, now known as WilliMo because of an old email address, passed away and July 2020 marks 10 years.Learning what grief is and what it is not has been a large part of what Darcy has learned in the last decade.Darcy and CJ have been friends for about 9 years and they have an in-depth discussion about how Darcy’s memories of her dad both introduces CJ (and others) to WilliMo and keeps Darcy’s memory of him alive. Sort of like Luke, Thomas & Cindy, Darcy had a similar experience where leaving town created a lot of guilt and feeling like something would always happen while she was away.TO COMMEMORATE WILLIMO’S LIFETo commemorate WilliMo’s life and battle with cancer, each year Darcy and her sister do a 5K and fundraise for a cure. Unfortunately, this year that won’t be able to happen. However, donating to an awesome cancer organization of your choice and submitting your information will get you an awesome sticker in the mail.Check out the organizations that Darcy suggests. Choose one of them OR find one that you support.Make a donation!Run/Walk a 5K in honor or in memory of someone you care about… even WilliMo!Give your information to Darcy and she will send you a sticker of her original artwork.MENTIONSLuna Lovegood tells Harry Potter about the ThestralsWe welcome your comments and feedback about the episode. Cindy has experienced a lot of loss in her life as she discusses with CJ, her mother and father, Larry and Audrey, her husband, Michael, sister, Holly, and dear friend, Ellen. With the number of losses that Cindy discussed with CJ, she showed a rather philosophical point of view where even though they were gone, she could appreciate each of them - her father, mother, sister, husband, and friend - as vehicles of long-lasting memories while still acknowledging that their deaths made an impact.MENTIONSWhat is an orthobiotomist? What or who is a fiduciary professional? We welcome your comments and feedback about the episode.
