Austin Reaves delivered a performance for the ages — dropping a career-high 51 points to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 127–120 win over the Sacramento Kings. With LeBron James and Luka Dončić both out, Reaves stepped into the spotlight and owned it — adding 11 rebounds and 9 assists, just one shy of a triple-double. From deep threes to fearless drives, Reaves was in complete control, answering every Sacramento run with clutch shots and electric energy. He became only the fourth undrafted player in NBA history to score 50 or more points, joining an elite list of Lakers legends to reach that milestone. When the game was on the line, Reaves didn’t hesitate — he took over. A breakout performance that not only sealed the win… but announced to the league that Austin Reaves has truly arrived.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spate-radio-the-hip-hop-podcast--6251846/support.© 2025 Spate Media. Hit-Boy and The Alchemist Drop Joint Album “Goldfish” Two of hip-hop’s most respected producers, Hit-Boy and The Alchemist, are stepping out of the studio shadows and into full artist mode with their new album Goldfish, arriving October 24. Instead of only supplying beats for other stars, they are front and center. The rollout includes the album itself, a short film, and a lead single that shows both producers trading bars and crafting beats for one another. The creative chemistry is impossible to ignore. Why This Collaboration Is Special Hit-Boy and The Alchemist come from different corners of the hip-hop landscape. The Alchemist built his legacy with gritty, underground classics and elite lyricists.Hit-Boy has dominated the mainstream with major chart-topping hits and award-winning production.Together, they combine raw hip-hop roots with polished, cinematic execution. Their decision to rap throughout the project adds a fresh layer, proving they are more than just producers behind the boards. What to Expect from “Goldfish” This isn’t a simple beat-tape.Expect:• Story-driven creativity supported by the upcoming short film• Hard-hitting drums, soulful textures and clever wordplay• A curated lineup of high-profile features thanks to both of their long-standing industry relationships• A bold example of producers leading their own narrative instead of playing a background role Why This Release Matters Goldfish represents a shift in how producer-artists move in the industry. They are showing that owning the music, the visuals, and the rollout can build a stronger brand and higher long-term value. It is a blueprint for creators looking to build their own IP instead of only supporting others.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spate-radio-the-hip-hop-podcast--6251846/support.© 2025 Spate Media. Gucci Mane’s wife, Keyshia Ka’Oir, has responded to Nicki Minaj after the rapper accused her of keeping Gucci “sedated.” The tense exchange erupted following Gucci Mane and Ka’Oir’s recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, where they discussed his mental health and how Ka’Oir helps manage his social media use. The Lead-Up During the interview, Ka’Oir opened up about how she supports Gucci Mane through his mental-health challenges. She explained that she often limits his phone and social media access to protect his peace, saying: “You realize you haven’t known about any other episodes since September 13. That’s because I control that. … You’re not going on Instagram … I’m controlling everything at home.” Shortly after the episode aired, Nicki Minaj took to social media and aimed a series of harsh messages at Ka’Oir. Minaj claimed that Ka’Oir had been “trying to be me for years” and was “keeping Gucci sedated.” She also accused Ka’Oir of seeking attention and suggested that Gucci harbors resentment toward his former manager, Debra Antney. Minaj further criticized radio host Charlamagne tha God, calling him a “fraud” and accusing The Breakfast Club team of orchestrating “disgusting ploys.” The Response In what many saw as a subtle but powerful clapback, Keyshia Ka’Oir posted an Instagram video of herself vibing to a Cardi B track. Given the long-running feud between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, fans quickly interpreted the post as Ka’Oir’s indirect response. She captioned the clip: “I’m like nah…….since when ….. out here embarrassing ….” The Bigger Picture The feud highlights how intertwined personal relationships and public perception can be in hip-hop culture. What began as a discussion about Gucci Mane’s mental health spiraled into a social-media firestorm involving some of the biggest names in rap. Ka’Oir’s response not only showed confidence but also hinted at where she stands in the broader landscape of women in hip-hop. While she didn’t address Minaj directly, her decision to use a Cardi B song spoke volumes. Why It MattersMental Health and Image Control: The incident began with a genuine discussion about mental wellness and evolved into a debate about control, visibility, and influence.Industry Power Plays: It also exposed ongoing tensions between artists and their inner circles, showing how loyalty and rivalry often overlap in hip-hop.Public Perception: For Gucci Mane, the situation adds another layer to how his fans perceive his comeback story and marriage. What’s Next It remains to be seen whether Nicki Minaj will escalate the situation or if Keyshia Ka’Oir will address the issue more directly. For now, her understated Cardi B post appears to have made its point — quiet, confident, and calculated.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spate-radio-the-hip-hop-podcast--6251846/support.© 2025 Spate Media. This is Spate News bringing you the latest in hip hop headlines and industry drama.Nicki Minaj has shocked fans by announcing that she’s stepping away from music — and according to her, Jay-Z is one of the main reasons why.In a fiery post on social media, Nicki revealed that she’s done with releasing new music and shelving her upcoming album. She claimed Jay-Z and Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez tried to patch things up with her, even asking for a new tour and album, but she refused.Nicki also accused Perez of serious wrongdoing, using strong language to call her out directly. She went on to say Jay-Z was willing to let Perez take the fall alone and ended her post with a final message to fans: “I’m not putting out the album anymore. No more music. Hope you’re happy now, Jay-Z. Bye, Barbz. Love you for life.”This isn’t the first time Nicki has called out Jay-Z or Roc Nation. She’s previously criticized them over industry decisions, including the Super Bowl halftime show lineup and Tidal’s payout issues following its sale in 2021.At the same time, Nicki has been locked in a heated back-and-forth with Cardi B online — extending the tension even further across the hip hop world.Whether this marks a true retirement or just another chapter in Nicki’s career remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure — the Queen of Rap has once again set the internet on fire. For more stories like this, stay locked in with Spate News, where hip hop lives.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spate-radio-the-hip-hop-podcast--6251846/support.© 2025 Spate Media. Timbaland is facing criticism after appearing in the music video for TaTa Taktumi, a rapper he introduced in June through his new AI-focused label, StageZero. In the video, TaTa performs lines such as, “I put ice on my shooter / he gonna duck immigration / b-tch I’m back now / check my stats now.” When discussing TaTa and StageZero with Variety, Timbaland described her as an intellectual property (IP) and expressed his ambition to build a music franchise. He claimed the video is “85% human-made” and that AI contributed “maybe 15% or less.” After a clip from the video surfaced online, critics blasted Timbaland on social media. One user wrote, “Using AI to create a non-Black artist to embody Black culture just so you can exploit without guilt is fcking insane.”* Another added, “Timbaland destroying his own legacy wasn’t on my 2025 cards.” Timbaland has defended his use of AI, saying that he doesn’t let it replace human creativity. In the Variety interview, he explained that he uses AI as a tool or collaborator, not as the sole creator: “You still need the human element.… If you don’t know music … you’re not going to get what you’re looking for.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spate-radio-the-hip-hop-podcast--6251846/support.© 2025 Spate Media. The New Generation Artist: Musician, Influencer, Podcaster The music industry has entered a new era—one where talent alone isn’t enough. The new generation artist isn’t just a musician; they’re also an influencer, a podcaster, and a cultural voice. Success today comes from building a multidimensional platform that goes beyond the stage or the streaming playlist. Music as the Foundation For every new artist, music is still the heart of the journey. But in 2025, releasing songs alone won’t guarantee growth. Artists need consistency—dropping singles, visual content, and remixes that keep fans engaged. The smartest musicians are building catalogs like businesses: every track is an asset that can generate revenue across streaming, sync licensing, and even future film or game projects. Influence as the Amplifier The modern artist is also an influencer. TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts are as important as Spotify or Apple Music. Fans want to see your life, your style, your opinions—not just your tracks. By building influence, you create cultural currency: partnerships, merch lines, and collaborations open up because your voice moves people. Podcasting as the Deeper Connection Podcasts have become the secret weapon for artists. Through long-form conversations, storytelling, and commentary, you build a loyal community that goes beyond algorithms. A podcast gives your fans more than music; it gives them access to your mind, your worldview, and your authenticity. It also positions you as a thought leader, not just an entertainer. The New Blueprint The new generation artist doesn’t pick one lane—they merge them:Music fuels your core audience.Influence drives discovery and partnerships.Podcasting builds intimacy and authority.Together, these pillars create a brand that can live across streaming platforms, social media, live events, and even education or business ventures. The Takeaway To be a successful artist today, you must think like a creator, a media company, and a cultural architect. Music is the spark, but influence and podcasting are the engines that build long-term impact. The future belongs to artists who see themselves not just as performers, but as ecosystems.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spate-radio-the-hip-hop-podcast--6251846/support.© 2025 Spate Media. "Welcome to Spate Radio. Today we’re breaking down what it really takes to be a successful music artist in 2025—whether you’re a rapper, an Afrobeats star, or a pop artist on the rise. First things first: streaming is king. Dropping music consistently is the new way to stay hot. Every single you put out is another chance to land on a playlist and get discovered. Don’t just focus on the U.S.—rap and Afrobeats are global right now. Target Africa, the U.K., Europe—fans are listening everywhere. Second, visuals are everything. Covers, videos, reels, TikToks—your brand has to look as good as it sounds. Fans want a full experience, not just a track. Third, embrace the technology. AI is changing the game. From making beats to analyzing where your fans are, the smartest artists are using data and tech to move like CEOs. And don’t forget collaborations. Cross-genre is the wave—rap linking with Afrobeats, Afrobeats blending with pop. Those collabs create culture-shifting records. But here’s the biggest key: money outside of streams. Merch, fashion, licensing deals, sync placements, live shows—that’s how you really secure the bag. At the end of the day, the artists who win in 2025 are the ones who stay authentic. Be real with your story, your sound, and your culture. That’s what fans connect to. So if you’re an artist right now, remember this: consistency, visuals, tech, collabs, and multiple income streams. Do that, and you’re not just chasing hits—you’re building a career. This is Spate Radio. Let’s keep pushing the culture forward."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spate-radio-the-hip-hop-podcast--6251846/support.© 2025 Spate Media. All rights reserved. There were throngs of fans in San Francisco and outside YouTube’s headquarters in San Bruno on Thursday, all hoping to catch a glimpse of the unpredictable viral streamer known as IShowSpeed. Streaming continuously, IShowSpeed is in the midst of a 35-day tour across the U.S. It’s unknown where he’ll go next. In San Francisco, his itinerary included a drive through Berkeley, a stop at City Hall to meet with Mayor Daniel Lurie, and visits to iconic spots like Twin Peaks and Dolores Park. While exiting the YouTube building, he even gave a shoutout: “Channel 2 Oakland, What’s up y’all? About to be turnin’ up. Diddy has been ordered by a federal judge to explain why he should be allowed to wear civilian clothing instead of prison garb at his sentencing on October 3, 2025. Judge Arun Subramanian denied a prior motion from Diddy’s legal team to wear civilian clothes at a hearing on September 25, noting the defense failed to give a valid justification.  He indicated that he would consider a more detailed explanation ahead of the sentencing. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spate-radio-the-hip-hop-podcast--6251846/support.© 2025 Spate Media. Shreveport has approved a major redevelopment deal with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who is investing $50 million of his own money to transform the downtown area into a film and entertainment district. The project includes revitalizing Millennium Studios and Stage Works Studio, with construction expected to begin late this year or early next. The plan introduces a new Film and Entertainment Gateway Economic Development District, funded by a 2% sales tax within its boundaries. All revenue will go into a trust fund dedicated to redevelopment. City leaders emphasized that no citywide resources are being risked, and the deal is structured so taxpayers aren’t on the hook if it fails.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spate-radio-the-hip-hop-podcast--6251846/support.© 2025 Spate Media. Recently, Young Thug spoke on The Pivot Podcast about how certain artists showed their loyalty when leaked jail phone calls started circulating. Those calls created headlines, stirred speculation, and had people questioning who was really standing with him. According to Thug, three artists never wavered: Drake, Lil Baby, and 21 Savage. He said when the leaks hit, Drake texted him directly, telling him he loved him, telling him to forget the noise, and to let the music talk. Thug described it as a moment where he could see people’s true colors — some reached out, some didn’t. For him, the ones that did were proof of who’s real.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spate-radio-the-hip-hop-podcast--6251846/support.© 2025 Spate Media. A recent development in New York’s casino dramas has reignited tension between two hip-hop titans. Jay-Z’s desire to open a casino in Times Square was rebuffed, and now Nas has landed what looks like a major win — and some are using that moment to take shots at Jay. Earlier this month, a community advisory board rejected Jay-Z’s proposal to build a casino in Times Square, citing concerns for the Broadway district and local livelihoods. The board argued that preserving the character of Broadway was essential for both residents and tourism, and that a casino “can go anywhere, but Broadway only lives here.” In response, Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez expressed disappointment in how the decision ignored certain politicians’ commitments to New Yorkers.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spate-radio-the-hip-hop-podcast--6251846/support.© 2025 Spate Media. The rap world was buzzing when Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj linked up for chart-topping collaborations, but their relationship didn’t last long. Now, Ice Spice is shedding light on why things went left — and it wasn’t simply personal drama. Leaked Texts Sparked Tension In 2024, private text messages surfaced after Ice Spice’s former friend, Baby Storme, leaked them online. In the messages, Ice called Nicki “ungrateful and delusional.” Ice later admitted the texts were real but stressed they came from a vulnerable moment. “Feeling used, basically,” Ice explained, adding that what hurt most wasn’t Nicki, but the betrayal from someone she trusted who chose to expose her. Business Complications Behind the Split Despite the emotional fallout, Ice Spice clarified that the true reason their relationship fizzled was tied to business. By the time Nicki’s team tried to bring her into a formal deal, Ice was already signed to two labels. With existing contracts in place, there was “no room” for the partnership to move forward. This contract conflict, more than anything, is what caused the disconnect. Respect Still Remains Even with the leaked texts and missed opportunities, Ice Spice has nothing but admiration for Nicki Minaj. In a conversation with Keke Palmer, she emphasized that Nicki will always be “mother” in the rap game. Ice admitted she might’ve used different words if given another chance, but the respect never faded.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spate-radio-the-hip-hop-podcast--6251846/support.© 2025 Spate Media.
