Speaking of Impact

At the age of 18, Bob DePasquale found himself in a fight for his life when diagnosed with cancer. It would become a journey that ultimately shaped his view of himself and the gifts that he could share with the world. Speaking of Impact is an empowering and educational show that helps people to recognize their time, talent and treasures as powerful tools that bring joy and fulfillment not only to themselves, but to the world around them.

EP #276 Why People Hate Their Job

I hate my job...is something we hear too often. 😼 But why? Why are people feeling this way. Pew Research Center said that 75% of people report dissatisfaction with their role. That’s tough
and I don’t me “tuff”. We have to fix this. You have to fix this in your organization. I have 5 reasons why people hate their job and ways to prevent them. People deserve a healthy workplace culture and feeling related to their work when not on the clock. I wouldn’t say these things are unknown but you’d be surprised how easy it is to overlooked them. You’ll want to stop that right away and get people in a joyful state that makes them appreciate their job (and growing the company). Have a “hateless” rest of your week. đŸ‘đŸŒ ======= For in depth insight on how to attract the best talent and most loyal customers, subscribe to the G2 Newsletter.  I'll send you The Generous Leader's Planner at no cost to get you started. EP #275 The Worst Acronym You Have to Know

I’m a big fan of acronyms, but not this one. đŸ€Ł Storytelling has been the most powerful form of communication since the beginning of time. Yet, we don’t acknowledge it in our work. Most “in office” communication is pretty lousy these days. You could blame it on remote work, social media, the next generation, whatever
but what really lacks is emotion. Storytelling elicits this. Business requires you to communicate well and there is a lot of talk about empathy amongst team members. This tells me we need to be better storytellers with our people. This episode will help be a better storyteller and colleague. Have a “gloing” rest of your week. 🌟 * Subscribe to the Generosity Growth (G2) Newsletter ======= For in depth insight on how to attract the best talent and most loyal customers, subscribe to the G2 Newsletter.  I'll send you The Generous Leader's Planner at no cost to get you started. EP #274 How (and why) to Be a Better Storyteller

There’s a lot of yelling out there, but storytelling is “louder”. Storytelling has been the most powerful form of communication since the beginning of time.
EP #273 Hard Skills (Not) vs. Soft Skills

Why do we make hard skills and soft skills battle each other for attention? It’s dumb. They’re both important. The problem is, they are more fluid than we assume. Your hard skills can improve or get worse and your soft skills will need to change with different relationships. There is no perfect way to train either of them but the best teams know how to use them to build something significant. I wanted to invest some time in the process teams and leaders need to work through to help their people use each of these. Do this well and you’ll find an incredible generous culture that attracts top talent and loyal customers. EP #272 How to Know Your People Better

There’s a difference between knowing about people and knowing people. One is table stakes and the other is an advanced way to understand your workplace environment. Building culture is something that requires great understanding. You’ll here the buzzword “empathy” these days. It’s great but you can’t expect to have it if you don’t know people really well. Invest the time in knowing and understanding and you’re sure to build the culture you desire. This episode is designed to explain how to do this. EP #271 The Biggest Mistake When Building Workplace Culture

Building workplace culture is really hard. But you can make it simple if you skip this one misstep. Most firms focus on helping people assimilate to their culture. That seems like it’s really helpful, right? I have a different way of thinking about this. You have to help people, yes, but there is a way to help them that is much more fulfilling and productive for the team as a whole. This is all based on growth. This is what people want and also what you want for your company. EP #270 Improve Your Mental Health

Mental health is a serious issue. I have experienced episodes where I’ve felt completely incapable of improving my situation. Thankfully, something or someone has come along to help me through the tough time. Imagine feeling this on a daily basis. This is how it can be when you’re mind is not as healthy as it can be. I feel for you if you are experiencing this or have before but I also know there are sources of support. The best source is internal. This episode is not just about what you can do yourself to “fix” your mental health but it is about ways you can make it much simpler to find joy and fulfillment. This works for individuals and teams Have a healthy rest of your week.😀 * Subscribe to the Generosity Growth (G2) Newsletter ======= For in depth insight on how to attract the best talent and most loyal customers, subscribe to the G2 Newsletter.  I'll send you The Generous Leader's Planner at no cost to get you started. EP #269 How to Handle Toxic People

Toxicity is a culture killer. It can be hard to recognize and even harder to change. This happens because people struggle to recognize negative habits in others and themselves. Cultures are built, not found, whether you know it or not. A toxic culture will ruin the professional experience of its people and you have to recognize and address it as soon as possible. The problem is that most people are uncomfortable addressing it because it’s a “people thing”. You have to understand others’ perspective and be willing to have tough conversations. I have a way of looking at toxicity that is more personal and direct than the average culture advice. Take note of the steps in the process and learn to take them with caution and compassion. EP #268 Why is Community So Important?

You gotta belong! Some say you have to believe. Well, I believe in belonging. There is no subsitute for this. Humans have helped each other survice and thrive for years. Part of our experience relies on others whether we want and realize this or not. I have spent a lot of time studying people’s acceptance, struggle, and experiences with their work. It’s clear that people need to feel like they are a part of a strong mission. But why? How can this help or hurt your team? I have 5 things to think about (and master) if you want to build a generous workplace culture that attracts top talent and loyal customers. EP #267 The Real Problems with Perfectionism

You CAN’T be perfect. Only your effort can be. There is a problem with how we look at perfectionism these days. We say it’s a terrible thing and most will try to run from it - even ignore it. That’s a bad approach. I wouldn’t say you can embrace it but you have to use it’s emotion for good. In this episode, I’m breaking down you and your team’s work so you can identify what can actually be perfect (yes, some things, can) and what can’t be. Know these things and you’ll have a whole different perspective on how to design expectations for a high performing team. Great people are attracted to great environments. This is how you lay the foundation. EP #266 Fair is NOT The Same

You CAN’T treat people the same. I have seen a thousand leadership trainings and even more pieces of advice. Most of it is way too generalized. There is no perfect style. You have to consider how to treat people fairly. And that is really tough. The best leaders learn from every interaction they have. You’re not born with a special skill. It can be trained but it’s mort about what you deliver to others than how effective you are at motivation or management. This episode will cover why you can treat people the same and how to be a better giver (leader) regardless of your title or position. EP #265 Should You Expect the Unexpected?

The unexpected sucks. But it doesn’t have too. In fact, I think you need it for greatness

in life, in relationships, in business, and in workplace culture. I had a few unexpected things happen to me over the last few weeks and it got me thinking about resilience and the other related things to handling the unexpected. My business career, like yours, has been riddled with the unexpected. Adaptation has been critical. How does this apply to the culture of your workplace? I wanted to talk about it from the perspective of the employer and the employee. So, I did. 😁 * Subscribe to the Generosity Growth (G2) Newsletter ======= For in depth insight on how to attract the best talent and most loyal customers, subscribe to the G2 Newsletter.  I'll send you The Generous Leader's Planner at no cost to get you started. EP #264 Recruitment vs. Retention

Why do we separate these two things? There’s a problem in today’s corporate environment. We think we have to recruit people away from other companies and then “retain” them. But what if we thought of these things more similarly? If people are thinking about leaving so easily, than you’ve already lost them. You haven’t delivered on what you said in the recruitment process. This lack of integrity causes a significant problem as companies and teams grow. You do so much to recruit and then you have to double down to retain. It should be a more cohesive process, and I have counterintuitive thought as to what will actually make it “more” cohesive. Enjoy the rest of your week and don’t think about retention so much. 😉 * Subscribe to the Generosity Growth (G2) Newsletter ======= For in depth insight on how to attract the best talent and most loyal customers, subscribe to the G2 Newsletter.  I'll send you The Generous Leader's Planner at no cost to get you started. EP #263 This is the Most Important Trait a Leader Can Have

There’s this trait that every leader should have. You can name a million of them but what is it? I’ve heard plenty of leadership trainings. The best one’s will focus one specific trait for practice that can level up your work. But there’s only one that I believe should be applied generally. We live in a world of more. Yet, in this case, you can bet that if you treat people this way, you’ll find success in building relationships. Wel built relationships lead to strong teams that attract top talent and loyal customers. People want to be part of this type of environment. I had to invest an episode in this concept because I know it’s power. It saved my life. EP #262 Stop “Balancing” Work and Life

Balance is impossible - and undesirable. I left town thinking I’d get "refreshed” but realized I actually just got deeper into the important stuff. This is how time off should be. If you’re only relieved when you’re away from the office, you’re missing something. This isn’t the first time I’ve talked about how I don’t shoot for work/life balance but it’s the deepest dive. I like to think about work life harmony instead. It’s simpler. More realistic. And much more desirable. This episode is all about why. EP #261 Why People Quit Their Job

People are quitting their jobs a lot these days. Should you try to avoid it or let people go? It depends
. There are some good reasons why someone might leave their job: relocation retirement family illness new opportunity I wouldn’t consider any of these “quitting”. They are reasons for change. No one would fault your company for them and so it doesn’t hurt recruitment/retnetion. What does hurt though is when someone feels bad enough that they quit - decide it’s not worth it. It’s important to understand the difference between these two things and the real reason why someone would bail on gainful employment. This will help to understand how to give people what they need to have a joyful work experience and stay. EP #260 Closing the Generous Culture Loop (Step 3)

You can’t do generous culture alone and that’s why you have to close the loop. The great news is that you two thirds of the way there. It’s important to understand how culture is “felt”. It’s key in this case because the exponential growth factor is accessed in this flywheel of giving. The third step in the process is what ignites your entire teams passion for a giving culture. It’s where educate them on what’s working and encourage them to jump in and add their own twist. Once they know, they go. That puts them in their own loop and attracting others. EP #259 The 2nd Step to Building Generous Culture

They say the first step is the hardest. The second ain’t that easy either. But it’s totally worth it and that’s exactly what I’m talking about today. My “ACE” process has three steps and you can’t get to three without the two. Last week, you learned about taking action to learn about your people. It’s not imposter syndrome unless you’ve done it before. Yeah, I said that right. If you just aren’t ready to do something, you’re just a beginner. That’s okay. Everyone starts at some point. If you have done it before and you think you can’t, then it’s imposter syndrome. Either way, I have some key thoughts today of how to handle your situation.
