Spots of Time

The Spots of Time Podcast is for those who want to empower their lives, nourish their mind and soul, and who ultimately seek hope and healing. As a people, we move toward our inner empowerment, mind-soul nourishment, and hope and healing through stillness and a little time of retreat and refuge from our crazy and chaotic world. It’s in this sweet spot of time where we can lean into a bit of self-reflection inspired by stories of Kim's wisdom and insight from her lived experiences.

Moving From Ego to Essence

The time has come to let go. It's been an amazing journey and I have enjoyed accompanying all of the Spots of Time listeners for the last 61 episodes! Listen in for my final episode. Peace and Blessings until next time.

You Are What You Love

You are what you love. We use the word "love" often without thinking about the gravity of the meaning of the word, love. What do you love? What are you attached to? What are the things you want and desire? Oftentimes, we love less important things more and we love more important things less. This is an important reflection to raise our self-awareness.

Journey from Vices to Virtues

Each of the Enneagram types has as its foundation a vice, or in the language of Enneagram wisdom, each type has a passion…and every vice has a healing virtue and every passion has a God-given gift. Keeping in mind that the work of the Enneagram is learning to free oneself from one’s number. If you aren’t able to, you won’t be able to utilize the gifts or the virtue of your number. Today’s reflection is all about naming your vice or passion, then owning it, and taking responsibility for it. As you do, you gain strength and freedom.NOTE: The quote I share toward the end of the episode is from Julian of Norwich.

Spring Cleaning

Spring is about rebirth and renewal, which makes it the perfect time for a personal deep cleaning and ordering. This can include working on changing negative or destructive habits, adopting healthy new habits, working on deepening your spirituality, practicing self-care for better mental health, and much more.

The Paschal Mystery

The Paschal Mystery is the secret to life…to wisdom…to growing…to becoming our authentic selves. God is always calling us to something richer, deeper, and fuller. Now there is suffering before, during, and sometimes after the paschal death. It’s hard to let go of things, lifestyles, habits, even unhealed wounds…somehow, those are comforting to us and for us. But there’s always good news…the good news is that we do not make this journey alone….God walks with us in the suffering, the dying, and definitely in the rising.

Suffering

Suffering is inevitable. We are all going to suffer. We live in an imperfect world with imperfect people…we do not yet know the completeness of Divine Love and the way God created the world and each other. God did so for all to live in harmony but when sin entered the world, all bets were off. Suffering is part of the mystery of life. Jesus commanded us to “pick up your cross and follow me.” How do we do this? How do we endure the suffering and at the same time love and trust God?

Wisdom Series: Teresa of Avila and Howard Thurman

Welcome to my wisdom series…in the next four episodes, I’ll be sharing insights from several of my wisdom sages. What is a wisdom sage you may ask? They take me to a deeper place of thinking and to a place where God can grow wisdom within me.

Growing in Wisdom

Today, I’m talking about wisdom…growing in wisdom specifically. The scripture I quoted in the last episode from Luke 2, says that Jesus grew in age, wisdom, and grace. Just like Jesus, we too grow in age, wisdom, and grace. With all that’s going on in our world right now, we need wisdom.

Aging with Grace

God has shown me what it looks like to age with grace. I’m doing my very best to lean into this and to embrace and share the wisdom I’ve gained. In this episode, I’m sharing a reflection of the insights God gave me even as God is still growing me in wisdom, age, and grace. Are you aging with grace?

Empowering Freedom

I picked this topic back in the summer when I couldn’t have known what would be going on in my life nor what is going on in our world. I’m not even sure, if I’m being truly honest, what the heck I was thinking about when Empower Freedom came to mind. What I do know is that these themes and topics are inspired on my heart by the Spirit of the Living God. Listen in to hear what Spirit has breathed into my soul and out through my words.

Stillness

Stillness is anti-cultural. Most of us are wired to go, go, go, and do, do, do, rest a little and then repeat. Stillness is how we unite with the Spirit of the Living God. Resting in and with the Spirit of God. In this episode, I’m sharing with you my practice of breathing prayer which brings me to a state of stillness or what I call coming soul to soul with the Divine.

Surrender

Surrender…it’s not easy to surrender but it is necessary for our well-being…spiritually, physically, emotionally, mentally. Today, I’m sharing my conversation with a young man named Carlos who was diagnosed with brain cancer. Carlos shares his insightful wisdom about surrendering and trusting in God’s promise to walk with us through the good and challenging times of life.

New Year, New Word

New Year, New Word. Yes, this is sort of a repeat episode from last year…but I’m adding in new wisdom and noticings about 2024 and my word, “believe.” I’ll reveal my new word for 2025 and what I learned already and the hope of my growth in the new year. What is your word for 2025?

It's Up to Us

This episode was inspired by the quote from Thomas Merton, “Christ is born to us today in order that he may appear to the whole world through us.” Perhaps this is what Advent is all about…we arrive in this season tired, worn out, exhausted from the shenanigans of the world over the last year. And we’re looking for refuge, stillness, quiet, light, peace, joy, renewal, rest…why? Because the mission is not over. Yes, we may be weary but we can’t stop leaning into our God-given purpose to bring Christ to the world. It’s up to us.

All I Want for Christmas

We all know the iconic song by Mariah Carey, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” It plays several times each day as soon as Christmas songs begin playing on the radio. It’s on every Christmas playlist. But it begs the question…what do I want for Christmas? How about you? How would you complete the line, all I want for Christmas is…? Listen in to Kim’s reflection on all she wants for Christmas.

How the Light Comes

Advent seems to be a time when we are invited to intentionally focus on LIGHT - bringing light, being light, and praying for light to come - to the darkness of our world, and of our lives. Join me for a reflection on “how the light comes.” I’ll give you a hint…it comes through us.
