Description

Columbans are a missionary society of priests who work in cooperation with lay people and Columban Sisters in 17 countries from a standpoint of solidarity with the poor and integrity of creation. Formally founded in 1918, St Columbans Mission Society takes its name from St Columban, Ireland's sixth century missionary to Europe.
The Columbans are a global missionary society of priests who work in 17 countries in cooperation with lay people and Columban Sisters from a standpoint of solidarity with the poor and integrity of creation. As Columban Missionaries we live and share the Gospel of Jesus through working with the poor and exploited, seeking justice and dignity for those denied their rights, developing faith communities in the local church and advocating respect and care for the earth and the environment.

“Let us be of Christ not of ourselves” St Columban.

Let us see the whole picture, where each person plays a necessary part. Let us reconcile the wolves fighting within our hearts - and within our world - and become true instruments of peace.
Yes, digital missionaries resemble real missionaries, but they still have to rely on the “foreign” missionaries, those who physically go to the “ends of the earth” for the stories that can give substance and authenticity to the online messages by which they carry out the call of Jesus to “proclaim the Good News” (Mark 16:15). As missionaries, we are reminded daily that the Kingdom of God often begins in the smallest of places - in a rural school, in the soft voice of a child learning to read, or in the joyful cry of a child who can finally walk again.
