In the past six weeks, my life has literally turned on its head. Almost everything we thought we knew about our future has changed. But this is a story of hope and peace and God showing up in so many miraculous ways. With all the heaviness that has overtaken the world in the last week, I thought it might be a good time to talk about the reality and goodness of God. And this story, while it is still evolving, does just that. So, today, I invite you to walk with me down my own sacred version of Parley Street.
The firestorm of controversy surrounding women and their role in God's Church and Kingdom has, once again, been brewing on social media. The conversation is heated, as always, with personal attacks and angry defensiveness playing center stage. While this is nothing new, this latest installment has encouraged me to ponder this question: As covenant women of God, what is our role in this conversation? Let's talk about it!   Sources: 1. The reel that ignited the latest controversy 2. Confidence in the Presence of God. Russell M. Nelson. April 2025 3. Right Before Our Eyes. Ronald A. Rasband. April 2025. 4. As a new year gets underway (I know I'm late to the party!), I have been reflecting on 2024, which was unexpectedly challenging in several ways. In this vulnerable episode, I get to the heart of those challenges, the deep questions that have surfaced as a result, and what this means for my life and the future of my work.  And, as many unanswered questions as I have, I also share a few things I KNOW (about Jesus, His gospel, rampant deception on social media and how to protect ourselves, the vital role of women, following the prophet, and keeping faith strong amid SO much opposition). Listen in for all the details!
When my kids were young, strong-willed, and unwilling to bend on even the smallest issues, I worried constantly about how to help them put their determined spirits to good use. I even thought they might end up in prison one day. (True story!) But now that my kids are mostly grown, I am convinced that strong will is a gift from heaven! In this episode, I am reposting an interview my husband and I did with our oldest son (the KING of strong will) shortly after he returned from his mission a few years ago. We talk about what he learned amid his evolution, from "I must always have it my way" to putting the needs of others above his desires and leading with love. It was an evolution for the history books, and his perspective is bound to bring hope to parents of even the most strong-willed kids.
Do you worry about how to prepare your kids for their role in the Second Coming? If so, you're not alone. I think we all feel the weight of that responsibility. But what if preparing our kids for the Second Coming beautifully overlaps with preparing them to succeed in life? What if the process includes helping them develop many vital skills in addition to faith? What if that preparation takes place line upon line and does not need to be overwhelming? What if creating and abiding by a parenting vision statement makes raising a well-prepared child seamless? Let's talk about it!   References: 1. Russell M. Nelson. Stand as True Millennials. 83. Abide the Day

83. Abide the Day

2024-10-3129:32

In the weeks since General Conference and President Nelson’s clear invitation to prepare for the Second Coming of the Lord, I, like many of you, have been thinking about what it means to prepare for that "great and terrible" day Joel 2:11). In my study on this topic, the phrase "abide the day" has repeatedly surfaced, inviting me to dig deeper. What does that mean in relation to the Savior's return? What I have discovered combines Old Testament prophecy with the Doctrine and Covenants, Joseph Smith's history, and modern revelation, all leading to one place: the temple. The symbolism I have found is blowing my mind, and I cannot wait to unpack it for you. Together, let's learn to "abide the day" of His coming. **For daily inspiration, follow along on Instagram   References: 1. Russell M. Nelson. The Lord Jesus Christ Will Come Again. October 2024. 2. Have you ever thought about the inseparable connection between physical and spiritual health? In the Word of Wisdom, the Lord promises “health in the navel and marrow to the bones” to those who follow its principles. Could that symbolize something much higher and holier than physical health alone? Let’s talk about it. **For daily inspiration, follow along on Instagram   References: 1. Have you ever felt God’s hand guiding you to do something you do not want to do? If so, how did you respond to the dissonance? This has been the overwhelming theme of my life. While I have learned MANY things as I have repeatedly submitted my will to the Lord's will, it took on a whole new meaning at General Conference last weekend. For the first time, I saw what giving my whole soul to God meant, which was not what I had previously thought. Tune in to hear the whole story and what it means for YOU. **For daily inspiration, follow along on Instagram   References: 1. Russell M. Nelson, "The Lord Jesus Christ Will Come Again." You can tell from the name of this podcast alone that I LOVE the word "STAND." While I often talk about standing, lately, I have been reflecting on what it means to stand with and for Jesus and why it matters. Let's talk about it! (Hint: Standing is a necessary pre-requisite to participating in THE long-foretold Gathering of Israel)   **Want a PDF of every invitation issued at April General Conference? Kate struggled with intense anxiety and periods of panic attacks throughout middle school and high school. Because of that and other reasons, she had no intention of serving a mission. But, after several spiritual experiences, she decided it was right for her. A few weeks after submitting her papers, she learned that, because of her history of panic attacks, her mission call had been delayed for several months. During that time, she needed to meet specific requirements before resubmitting her papers. In this vulnerable conversation, Kate, who begins her mission in a few days, talks about her experience, what it taught her, and why she is now grateful for the unexpected delay that initially rocked her world.   **Want a PDF of every invitation issued at April General Conference? Did you know that I have been writing a book about the mothers of the Stripling Warriors for the past year and a half? The writing and editing are (mostly) done, and I am currently trying to figure out publishing. But, while the story of the Stripling Warriors is still fresh on our minds from CFM, I could not pass up an opportunity to teach you some of the things I have learned about their incredible mothers. They have taught me SO much about raising latter-day spiritual warriors in a world that is quickly moving away from God. I hope their story will inspire you as much as it has me. We are living and raising children in a time of spiritual warfare, and Captain Moroni recently taught me how to navigate spiritual danger safely: Never stop preparing. What might that look like today? And how can we adopt Captain Moroni's top priority to "[prepare the MINDS of the people to be faithful unto the Lord their God?"  Let's talk about it! **Want a PDF of every invitation issued at April General Conference? I have been creating online content for more than ten years and have had a front-row seat to watch the growing impact of social media on society, culture, and even faith. For those who have eyes to see, it is clear that Satan is using social media to his benefit. But so is God. Using Alma 43-48 as a backdrop, let's explore why so many people (including myself) feel increasingly called to stand up and share faith on social media, even though darkness has a hold there. I will explain why I feel called to be bolder in my testimony of Christ, why I feel the need to RUN, and what that means for the future of this podcast.  **Want a PDF of every invitation issued at April General Conference? Parenting young adults is a whole new ballgame, complete with its own set of challenges that nobody really talks about. In this episode, I pull back the parenting curtain and explore three vital lessons I have learned since launching my first child into the world six years ago. Whether you have adult children or WILL at some point, I think you will find this episode helpful. **Want a PDF of every invitation issued at April General Conference? Grab this free study tool here. As we enter June - Pride Month, I have been reflecting on an experience I had last year at this time. Last June, I felt caught in a social media war between love and law –charity and chastity – tolerance and orthodoxy. I saw an army of pointed fingers on both sides. Some called for more love, tolerance, and acceptance. Others, in affirming God's laws, relentlessly published anti-pride messages, and some even publicly denounced the decisions of specific individuals. While wrestling with what, if anything, I should do or say, the Lord taught me an important lesson about the two great commandments that I will never forget. Listen in to hear all about it.   **Want a PDF of every invitation issued at April General Conference? Grab this free study tool here. Preparing kids (or ourselves) to serve missions is no small task. To succeed, missionaries need a wide variety of practical and spiritual skills. In this episode, Elise, who returned from her mission six months ago, talks about a few things she wishes she had known before boarding the plane to the MTC. Whether you are working to prepare yourself, your kids, or your grandkids to serve, her fresh-off-the-mission perspective will be invaluable. **Want a PDF of every invitation issued at April General Conference? The most recent controversy surrounding women and their role in the Church revolves around Sister Camille Johnson's BYU Women's Conference address. In it, she spoke of her inspired decision to be a full-time lawyer while raising her children. Many social media commenters expressed concern that she did not follow the prophetic counsel to stay home with her children if at all possible. The question at the root of this controversy is whether personal revelation will ever contradict prophetic counsel. Let's talk about it.   **Want a PDF of every invitation issued at April General Conference? Grab this free study tool here. For daily inspiration, follow along on Instagram   References: 1. The lack of resilience in emerging adults is staggering. We see it in sports teams, colleges, the military, the mission field, and beyond. Arming our kids with resilience is necessary for their success in all areas of life. But how can we do it? Listen in to gain perspective from professionals, including high-level coaches, college deans, and mental health counselors at the MTC.  Armed with perspective, we will then talk about practical parenting tools and strategies that we can implement today to build resilience in our kids.   **Want a PDF of every invitation issued at April General Conference? Whether we are talking about preparing our kids or others to enter the temple or trying to learn as much as we can about the temple so we can better access its power in our lives, what exactly can we talk about while preserving the sacred nature of God’s holy house? Listen in for what I have learned from prophets, apostles, and other official Church resources about this topic. (Hint...the list of things we cannot say is small...) I will follow the guidelines I teach in this episode as I discuss the temple in the future.   Resources: 1. The Church's official temple website: churchofjesuschrist.org/temples 2. David A. Bednar, Prepared to Obtain Every Needful Thing, April 2019 3. Russell M. For the past several months, I have felt drawn to the temple in unprecedented ways. While I have been attending the temple almost weekly for 10 years, I craved a deeper understanding of the ordinances and covenants we participate in there. So, in January of this year, I became an ordinance worker. When the Temple President set me apart in this capacity, he said something that was a direct answer to months of prayers regarding the direction of my online work. It has taken me a few months to put all the pieces together, but this episode explains why the temple was the missing piece in my work and how we all NEED it to stand forever with Jesus Christ.   For weekly inspiration, follow along on Instagram
